    Looking for work!

I thought id also say im 25 have a full clean uk driving license and own transport, i also have all my owns saws, fuel cans, felling equipment etc and willing to travel 45 minutes maybe an hour to work. i don't mind doing any work whether it be helping out with firewood or felling and whether it be a couple of days work or more. stu
  9. I was told roundup is really the only pesticide you can use in plantations now a days as alot of the others are banned and its meant to be the safest to use, would defiantly kill the grass though.
  10. Hi guys I'm basically looking for work, ive spent most of my time in the industry in the woods felling for contractors and local estates, but this last year i worked directly for a estate doing forestry work, fencing, topping etc but my contract has come to an end and the estate had decided to lay a few people off so now looking for work. tickets are as follows cs 30/ 31 /32 Tractor mo1 Spraying Pa1 and Pa6aw Npors cherrypicker Lantra rough terrain telehandler first aid at work i also have a qualification in countryside management and experience with tractors, ride on flails, winches, chippers etc I'm based in Reading Berkshire pm me on here and i can forward over my number Cheers stu
  11. its gunna be a forestry tractor, used for towing an 8 ton trailer fo use in the woods and getting logs to the chipper ready for the biomass boiler
  12. the company i work for is looking for a tractor, nothing fancy maybe a older massey or ford something like that a budget of about 9 to 10 grand anyone got any leads? stu
  13. thats the way! razor sharp chain bigish gob and just keep cutting. takes some balls sometimes though especially when pushing with a digger or winching the back pops off so easy!
  14. I wanted to get into forestry and if thats what i had to work for to get my foot on the ladder then so be it! it did go up to 50/55 after 6 months then after a year £75 as for piece rate i started on £11/12 a ton hardwood thinnings then went down to £7. 50/8 as i got faster, rubbish i know but owell. i wouldnt go back and change anthing though, as i now work directly for an estate manageing there woodlands and im on a good salary get holiday pay and sick pay and they pay for all tools fuel and training so in the end it was worth working for £40 cause i probaly wouldnt be in the position i am now:thumbup:
  15. try wessex woodlands newbury they have various contractors ian hampshire is based in alton and i could probaly put you in touch with him i know various others if you want to know them. Its a bloody hard indutry to get into! but its true what someone said to me "once your in it your in it" it took me a while before i found any forestry work but once i was doing it your hear and find out about many more contractors that previously you'd never hear about or find in a yellow pages. problem is contractors will want you to have experience and by experience i mean commercial experience not just being able to fell a tree but plan where racks will go, stacking timber correctly and in the right place, not getting trees constantley hung up and being able to fell anything unsupervised. then theres the money, its not very good tbh i started on £40 a day a couple of year ago felling trees and i had to pay for all fuel, saws, bars everything really and then when you get faster your piece rate goes down because you can fell more. but even though its hard work its probaly some of the most rewarding work ive ever done!
  16. That was mentioned in the discussion lol if I get the notes il email them to ya
  17. Unfortunately that's the one part I missed as I had to go back to work but the point put across i think was to trail run more non native species and to plant a woodland with a wider range of species rather than 1 2 or 3 types plant more to try and make that woodland more resistant to getting diseases within it
  18. What you want to know, so much was covered, chalara fraxinea, opm, acute oak decline, phytophthora then went onto the Asian long horned beetle and potential other threats etc then squirrel and deer management and lastly tree selction for a changing climate I'm hoping I get emailed the details about the conference as like I said a lot was covered in little time if I do get the notes I'm happy to email them on
  19. I went to this today at bca college and thought it was really good, talked about the different diseases that are affecting woodlands and trees currently and the ones that might come over here, also talked about squirrels and deer management. over all a good day
  20. Go for the pro lite you could buy two for the price of a powermatch there both good qaulity bars.

  24.
