  9. Hi there Just picking peoples brains, i was just wondering what you think a hand cutter should be paid on date rate, ive been doing forestry work now for just over two months and lately the contractor has been putting me on a day rate i do a minimum of 9 and a half hours a day and provide my own saw fuel and all other equipment?? Cheers Stu
  10. Cheers for the comments guys atleast I know where to start lol
  11. Yh I know it's gunna cost abit but thats why I was thinking a jimny or a freelander, it only needs to be small like I said just enough space for some equipment. I've been using my corsa which surprisingly has been really good lol even after the tractor has been driving up and down the track and churning it up, but it'll muck my car up eventually.
  12. Hello I am thinking of getting a 4x4 some time this year and was just wondering what your opinions are for a good 4x4 for a 22 year old thats reliable, good on insurance and not gunna cost loads to run. I was thinking of something like a suzuki jimny but heard a few bad reveiws about them. im not going to be towing anything i just want it for getting round muddy tracks and have enough space for a few saws and equipment etc Cheers
  13. I dunno a few people ive talked to said if your doing piece work and you were really fast at it you could earn more then climbers could in a day, but its not so much about the money anyway more so enjoying the job.
  14. Thanks for the coment log rover ive got a few estates near me so ill give them a try. Do u do much forestry kernowstu or you purely tree sugery?
  15. i thought 150 trees a day sounded alot, it workes out to be if u were doin a 10 hour day ud have to cut 15 trees an hour 1 every four mins and then to cross cut and stack them aswell. whats the normal hours for a forester?
  16. yh i have thought about doin other courses blazer especially forwarder and tractor but its a case of saving up the money lol do u do any forestry?
  17. Cheers! umm on average i was doing 3 or 4 trees a day, all scots pine, the biggest was nearly the size of a 15" bar and then 5 or 6" probaly the smallest. Ill give them a call see what they say, im basically going to call round loads of different estates now. i know theres a few near me that i know do some harvesting i gotta start some where lol
  18. Cheers odd bird il keep my eye out, ive done a bit of volunteer rangering in the past was good fun.
  19. Woww! brushcutter Fmoc training does make cs31 look cheap lol:laugh1: i think its something to build up to though i still wanna do it, do u do much commercial forestry now? i was thinking about maybe in the future do abit abroad like in norway somewhere like that once im more skilled. do u wrk for the national trust oddbird? where abouts is that?
  20. Thanks brush cutter il contact bartony and see how much it is. Does anybody know of any funding to help with courses like FMOC and others? Cheers
  21. Cheers for the comment guys. Yh i Know its gunna be hard work, ive done small bits of felling in the past when i went to college but it was an eye opener when i did the training for cs31, the instructor was really good but really critical and getting the tree hung up and getting it down was a pain lol and like you said everything has to be cut to the right size etc but from them four days i knew thats the job for me id be willing travel round the country i think it would be really good to get the experiance. yh brushcutter i want to do my cs32 hopefully soon i also want to do wind blown trees. I was also told to try and do harvester and forwader training to but i wouldnt know where to get the trainer for that? To answer you question andy i live in berkshire down south which is a pain cause i dont know if there alot goin on down here forestry wise. Does anybody know of any directory where you can find contractors?
  22. Hi there Ive recently been doing my cs31 and have been really enjoying it, and just wanted to know any information on how i would go around trying to get more into the commercial forestry side of things? Cheers
