  1. Bloody oath! Don't forget Honeysuckle! How can a plant that looks so benign be so insidious? Bramble, Dog rose, Field rose, blackthorn etc. can all be a pain, but Honeysuckle seems to have a mind of its own. The number of times I've gone to move off with the saw, only to find that somehow the bleddy stuff has wrapped itself around me legs, causing a stumble or even to fall flat on me face! Its like the Triffid of the woods.
  2. INCOMING!!!Tin Hats everybody!
  3. Someone post the ''Beardyman in the kitchen'' link. Think thats what its called - its
  4. True enough, never got on with green Ash and will tar your chimney up just the same. Hardwood species I usually divide roughly into 2 types - Fast seasoning, such as Alder, Birch and Sycamore, and Slower seasoning, like Beech, Holly and Oak. Actually, I find Oak is like 2 species rolled into 1 - the sapwood seasons in no time, but unless split / billeted the heartwood can take an age. Usually find that the faster the wood seasons, the quicker it burns - like Willow! Incidentally, one wood I never seem to get on with is Rowan. Always seems to start rotting on the outside, while still giving the appearance of being green in the middle - or is it just me?
  5. Yes, thats right, its obviously me that cant drive. Despite the same thing happening to a friend in a Cabstar on the same stretch of road, and me driving a wide variety of vehicles off-road EVERY day, its obviously me thats at fault. If only I had your experience. Right, off to take some pigs to the local abattoir now - hope I don't get stuck in the field.
  6. What really put me off Cabstars was coming back from a delivery one autumn a couple of years back. Came down a hill into a narrow valley and got stuck - on tarmac!!! A handful of wet leaves were enough to stop us, and we ended up with my mate bouncing up and down on the back to try and get enough traction:thumbdown: In the end had to get a tow up the hill - from a passing LDV!
  7. Yes, you're right, I bow down to your superior intellectual debating skills. With reasoned argument like that, who could fail to be convinced of the merits of a truck designed for people who got agoraphobia in a Bedford Rascal. Whats not to like? As long as you don't leave the tarmac, and don't mind being the first point of impact in an accident. And you're a dwarf...
  8. I do wonder sometimes if these people have a vested interest in prolonging your 'treatment' for as long as possible. I went to a Sports Physio for knee treatment back along, until the costs started to out weigh any benefit. Got refered to an NHS physio who sorted me in half the time at no cost - other than time. Thank God for the NHS. The rule i operate under is as long as its not too painful, then carry on. Particularly true with backs, worse thing you can do IMHO is to lie down for any length of time. You just seize up!
  9. into what?
  10. Not always the fault of the E.U., very often our own dear governments over-interpretation of the rules, though our press never misses an opportunity to put the boot in to Europe - far easier to do that than have to bother with mundane things like 'facts'. Why do I get the impression with Ray Mears that every time the director shouts ''CUT'',he instantly grabs a Mars bar or dives into a bargain bucket of K.F.C? For a supposed 'survivalist' hes a fat 'lil f*cker isn't he ? I know if I was ever in a survival situation, he'd be the first one id eat.
  11. Couple of typos, '...as it will not seasoned enough to burn efficiently.' Other than that, top marks. As above, 15miles seems a little generous for free delivery, I stick to 10 unless ordering a double load. Work out yer time and diesel costs (+ free kindling) and see if its cost effective to go on a 30 mile round trip with 1 m3. I doubt it. If yer products good then it will sell itself, word of mouth is the best form of advertising so after a while you may not need to travel so far afield - just saturate your local area. Good luck!
  12. yeh, right enough there, I don't attempt to lift half what I would have 20 yrs ago, and make sure I bend the knees, keep back straight etc etc... If yer aching after 17 yrs, try 25+ Have to check if all the bits are in place once you straighten up!!
  13. Fixed the title for ya.
  14. Yep, my experience of them too. Also, will spin on a bit of bird sh1t, unlike double-wheel Tranny or LDV.
  15. I'm 6'3'' and find a Cabstar far too cramped. Also driving position feels vulnerable, like a slightly bigger Bedford Rascal. Everyone seems to knock 'em, but you could do a lot worse than an LDV - Transit running gear at half the price. Whatever you do, get a tipper!
  16. ''Red right hand'' - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. ''I Bleed'' - Pixies
  17. Amen to that! Maybe its true and you do get more right wing the older you get, but I get increasingly pissed off at the ability of these people to act with impunity. Thieve, rob, leave crap wherever, pay no tax etc etc... yet I'm still expected to pay for their education, health care, sites, liaison officers and the rest. Yet if challenged, they're quick enough to resort to their 'human rights' to carry on with their 'traditional' way of life. Apologies for the rant, but I've had it up to here with Gyppos recently.
  18. Cant do the You tube links, but anyone remember Insane Clown Posse?
  19. So can the local Chinese, and you have to pay for that.:biggrin Didn't Winnie the Pooh like Honey (fungus)?
  20. Ditto the above, unless timber is reasonably straight the ram speed often causes the log to hit knife at an angle leading to more frequent jamming. This is much less likely with the knife on 2-way.
  21. Mesterh, your avatar -
  22. Thats the fella, used to like it early in the morning before the masses emerged. Lodged with relatives in Upper Park Road for a while, used to reverse commute to Merrist Wood - great passing static traffic on Robin Hood roundabout, all heading the opposite way. Richmond Park was nice, almost like the real countryside, but the lack of lichen on the trees always gave it away.
  23. Keep yer wig on, I'm not having a pop. Just pointing out that Cornwall has (apparently) the largest Red Deer in the U.K, and many people in Cornwall don't even realise that we have Red Deer! Stayed for a few months just outside Richmond Park in Kingston, used to like visiting a plantation (the name escapes me) which was the closest i could get to countryside in the 'smoke'.
  24. Bigger Stags than that in Cornwall, Tommer.
