  1. Try the large print version then...
  2. 'Woodland Conservation and Management' and 'The Conservation of Lowland Broadleaf Woodland' by George F Peterken , both highly recommended . Oliver Rackham is also worth reading, though personally I feel he's a bit 'region-centric' - fine if you're talking about East Anglia, but whats applicable for a Beech / Hornbeam wood in Cambridgeshire may be of limited value if managing a Welsh upland Sessile Oak wood. Still well worth seeking out though.
  3. Do you make it from scratch or buy the T- bags? Developed a bit of a taste for Chai in India, excellent hot weather drink (natch!), not so good for yer teeth. Regards flasks, been looking for a decent wide mouth one for ages, for soup/stews etc.. Don't bother with a flask for work, always brew fresh. I'm not a coffee drinker, and tea tastes shite however you try it with a flask - Kelly kettle all the way.
  4. That does sound like tinitus, or could be a temporary thing if your ear defenders aren't up to the job. If it persists, ie if its still ringing in the morning, go see the Quack and get referred ASAP - tinitus can be a long term issue. All the best.
  5. Yep, sure as hell looks like his Foden.
  6. It was a figure of speech, didn't mean literally 'touting'. Holding consultancies in pubs is NOT what professional medical people do - trust me, I married one! My original point still stands...
  7. Sorry mate, this sounds decidedly dodgy to me. Doctors don't go touting for business in pubs, it's decidedly unprofessional. If you're at all concerned get an appointment with your own GP and try and get referred to a Rheumatologist.
  8. Think my missus dealt with a case of that in casualty one evening......
  9. Showed a bit of (deer browsed) Hazel, but didn't mention the 'C' word. Most of the earlier part of the report implied that if you cut a tree down you had to replace it to be 'sustainable'. No mention of the thousands of acres of broad-leaved woodland that had been managed for thousands of years up until the end of WWII (roughly), of the different types of coppice management, of the importance of grazing animals in woodland eco -structure etc.etc... An opportunity missed in one respect, but as I mentioned above, only too typical of TV today - can't go into too much depth, might ''narrow the reach''. God forbid anyone should be asked to think for themselves.
  10. Seemed unable to make up their mind what agenda they were trying to follow. Jumped from hardwood logs to softwood chips, from conventional wood burning to wood-chip boilers, large plantation softwood to small broad leaves - and managed to not mention the word 'coppice' at all. All in all, pretty much what you can expect of 'magazine' format TV these days. I suppose it will raise awareness of us woodland managers and fuel merchants - for a couple of weeks at least...
  11. Not bad for a half empty stadium.... r.e Tigers bias, its not the players I was thinking of, though out of the 3 picked only Moody would have even a sniff of an All Black spot.(Hipkiss, Deacon - please...) No, its the coaching set up of Wells, Rowntree and Johnson. Any wonder England play like Leicester c.2000?
  12. Certainly is, I used to do a lot of tree planting in fenced enclosures, mainly upland oak woods. As access was usually a problem, used to use the 6'' ''pencil' strainers with a large drivall. They go in a lot tighter and faster than digging and backfilling, but boy was it hard work - particularly in hard ground! Made banging in intermediates seem like child's play.
  13. ''NO! NO! NO!, I wanted someone who could handle the ARTIC!''
  14. Oh dear CJ, thats an open goal for a Chopper, but I'll resist the temptation:001_tt2:
  15. Should get parity up front, one thing Englands front row fatties can do is scrum and Johnsons selection here is mainly dictated by injuries. Other than that, lots of head scratching at johnnos selections. Deacon? Erinle? An 8 at 6 and a 6 at 8? Says a lot for the future of english rugby if the answer is to recall a 36yr old lock. Out wide, meh, just a question of NZ by how much. Too much Leicester bias in the camp, time for a thorough clear out - especially Rob 'Squeaky' Andrew. The men in Black by 20 points.
  16. Very busy August - October, quiet Nov., picking up slowly again now. Have a good stock of 2yr. seasoned hard and softwood so not unduly concerned. Loads more competition this year, lots of ''dry logs'' type adverts with a mobile number.
  17. Depends what you want to do with it really, as mentioned above Apple are good - if a tad expensive - and avoid the virus probs associated with PCs. For general net surfing (inc. ArbTalk!) I use an Asus running Linux. Small, portable, good battery life and virus free. Whats not to like?
  18. Are you stalking me? Regards yer original question, watched the mighty Reds take on London Scottish last week. 2 world renowned (look it up) teams playing high standard, professional rugby. Cambern ? Well, I hear Veor 2nds might be up to the challenge of the Squareheads finest.
  19. 'Cornish Oak' has always been hard to come by in any quality - too much shake. Much of what is sold as Cornish often comes from up-country or abroad and is worked in Cornwall - thus magically becoming ''Cornish'' Cousin Jack - how be doin'?
  20. Would liked to have seen it but live in a Sky-free household. Oh dear, 3 on the trot now for S.A. Still, not as bad as sh*thouse England
  21. 'tis true I believe, my local dealer told me the same a while back whilst trying to flog me a 346xp equivalent.
  22. Not overly keen on yours Huck, to be honest ! (I hear what yer saying though)

I'm not disputing that for a minute, it just doesn't have the same appeal for me. A mate who went to a live event complained of too much hype and that you couldn't see what was happening, and even on TV bouts sometimes finish abruptly with unnoticed K.Os. I like the skill and artistry associated with boxing. UFC in comparison just looks like a tear up in a pub car-park.

Never been a fan to be honest. Boxing, K1, Kickboxing I can appreciate, but the sight of two muscular, oiled men clad only in shorts grappling on the floor just looks a bit - well - gay...
