  8. it was near a local swimming pool with a footpath underneath and a telephone cable within range of the fail, therefore needless to say that limb came off!
  9. saw this moth today, not the greatest picture but think its either Panemeria terebrata (Small Yellow Underwing) or Pyrausta aurata (Mint Moth) but probably the first one
  10. kinda cheated a little bit on this one as its a hedge:blush: but what would this be growing on this laurel hedge? at an educated guess i would say phellinus ignarius or fomes fomentarius (i really need to keep practising my ID'ing!) or is it something else entirely?
  11. this cherry seems to be living quite happily with G. adspersum (thats a guess:confused1:) and a nice union split, with a full healthy crown albeit being held up by the two hollies (not in the pic)

  13. steve could be right with the cucumber tree (Magnolia acuminata) bit i'll also throw in the Oriental Beech (Fagus orientalis) but without more picturtes its hard to tell 100%

  16. the leaves of the persian ironwood can grow from 6-15cm lond and 4-10cm wide, they do however normally have upto 8 pairs of veains where this has more. It would be good to see the petiole as the ironwood has a short one of about 1/2inch

  20. are those pots kev that the trees are in (concealed ones that is)? and whats the future management on them?
  21. just out of interest to some, low stumps are also better for coppiced woods, the lower (and flatter) the stump the better the future growth
