  2. how much is it and is it worth doing if i am doing a FdSc?
  3. wish i studied chemistry better than i did now:lol:
  4. i've only got the 2003 edition
  5. would there be future courses Paul?
  6. how do plants communicate through vast distances then? There was a good article a while back in the national geographic about trees in savannah in africa (i think) being grazed upon by herding animals The long and short of it was that one tree that was grazed upon sent out chemical signals of sorts to the others to warn them and they grew more spikes!! But if i remember this was over a vast distance. Is allelopathy that powerful?
  7. there was a good article in the AA's arb magazine about being an expert witness in court but sounds strictly for pro's with experience (not that i'm saying your not) Without the experience and decent reports you would get ripped apart by cross examination (again no offence by meaning you) Sounds like its a minefield of an area but fully rewarding when done properly
  8. get back on wordfeud you! And get your bro in law to invite me to, i lost those games in wales due to bad reception and need to win them back:lol:
  9. Interestingly, look at the second to last image, the Birch has also put out two new shoots, one on the main stem and one on the first limb to the left. be interesting to see if there was any "biotic/abiotic processes" involved that stimulated this growth?
  10. and that is a truly magnificent oak that i've missed out on (for the time being)
  11. The whole restoration/retrenchment pruning subject needs looking at full stop, and its things like this that prove it happens naturally anyone so why not mimic the trees natural processes:thumbup1: And IMO urban and street trees are ideal subjects especially when (most of the time) people are trying to save our urban forests
  12. Ah, its in Bala:001_huh: Drove through there last week on my way home:laugh1: As far as my research goes, i'm collecting previous data (although there isn't a great amount) and trying to find the perfect trees to "experiment" on The photo of this tree has helped a lot:001_cool:
  13. ps, is there any more pics?
  14. experiments to be had for sure not me thinks:thumbup1: What tree is this (Quercus sp.?) and where in the country? Does it have any "neighbours" of the same species in similar condition/size etc? Not actually got this technique in my list of variables.... I have now:001_tongue: Cheers for that tony, i owe you one this time:laugh1:

  20. Nice shots: thumbup: What did you do to your thumb? Ow! Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  21. What is our consciousness...?? Mmmmm people have been trying to answer that for decades, very philosophical for this time of the day:biggrin: How do we know that we are the perceived consciousness of say a cat perhaps, and we only exist in its mind and what it perceives!? I suppose with a tree, although not "concious" it is an organic lifeform, wood is a living and growing material and could have some sort of "feeling"?? Makes you think:001_rolleyes: Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  22. Allelopathy isn't it?? (spelling) Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  24. yeh i see it now:lol: took me a while though:blush: even when you said under the sparassis i couldn't see it at first, even thought it was that green blob!
