  1. You will feel a lot more comfortable with insurance,it does not have to cost the earth, and if you are doing everything else right then its daft not to have it!
  2. I think you may find the instructors on cs31 may also have stressed the need for insurances, thebelt and braces approach to safety/risk should be carried out no matter what, not as a substitute to 'negate' insurance,You will look very cowboy in court if/when something goes wrong, hope you dont have any property as you stand to lose it in the event of a claim against you.well done in moving on a bit and charging for work, but I feel you have more reason now to comply with industry standards (insurance being one),otherwise one is just not going to 'cut the mustard'! Who I ask of you, with respect, informed you that good safety etc negates need for insurance,or is this just a considered personal opinion,I am intrigued!
  3. Thank you Mr Bullman for editing my poor spelling, I got in a bit of a muddle spelling 'autumnal' (mildly dislexic)!
  4. Time for a change. The autumnal combination arrives, With breeze and sharp sunlight, Blustering golden leaves, That scuttle in and out of the shade. The sharpened trees acknowedge, With ridiculous creaking nods, That their time has now come, To shed all summer's green glory. The migratory birds are gone, The stragglers buffeted by the winds, Endeavouring to break through The clawing approuch they fear so much! But in the heart of all this, As the frost's chill sets in deep, And hibernating wildlife stirs it's last, The old squirrel expands his cache of nuts.
  5. Dont see what the problem is, the current financial instability is hitting most trades, some more than others, if someone wants to work for a loss good on them and they will either get wise and good, or fade away, these types have always been about and from my perspective they are welcome to the type of clients that use them. I bet there will be loads of domestic work on neglected trees (and leylandi) before too long, recession dont stop em growing & dying!
  6. Doesnt say if its waterproof, outside of that nice!

On pic no 4, is that you at the glory hole?
  12. I had this once. Customer(a busness) knocked me outright with a smile on his face, he works on his own on a saturday so I turn up, walk into entrance and left an invoice for a load of chippings, with an apology for late delivery on his counter as he was not going to come down the stairs from his office. anyway out I go and start tipping, before the load slipped out, he was head out his window pleading me to stop ,and he paid ,wrong or right I got my money.

    Netted Logs

Very reasonable price,if they moan tell them to go to a garage and get ripped off!
  14. Have you got a faceplate and a chuck? with these you can turn most things you want. I hot glue my blanks(you can screw them) to the face plate, gouge flat the tailstock end of the work, form a central recess of a diameterdepth to suit the chuck jaws, the piece is reversed and your chuck jaws fitted into the recess formed and opened to hold the piece on the circumferencs of recess, this mount will be later hollowed out to form the inside of the bowl, after you have turned the base ( with another recess), and the sides.release bowl from chuck, refitting it to the base recess now formed and hollow out the inside of the bowl. so you will need an expanding chuck, and a faceplate. if this is confusing I can post pics of process! Hope this helps.
  15. THAT was very funny, well done H Mc.
  16. You have done justice to two lovely pieces of wood.
  17. Sorry to hear that, lots of it about I'm afraid.
  18. Think I must have set off a wave of dog howling across the county,I were that intoxicated i didnt know whether i needed a sh*t or a hair cut!
  19. It was way worse than that, the dogs were howling for me to stop! rather inebreated:blushing:
  20. Nothing like the music played by a mandolin and a bayonette, from an old violinists perspective, as you can tell, this post was off the cuff, all photography, editing, and not least acting was (proud moment), created by me!
  21. Try to let them dry outside under cover for o few weeks before taking them indoors, centra heating/dry air will split wood .
  22. Get some prices first, may be cheaper to go for a reduction, then take the rest yourself. but eucs are sometimes unpredictable to get a nice hinge working, they can be brittle and the grain twists making hinge failure a dangerous reality. maybe you could offer your skills as a barter to an arborist so no money required?
