  1. Hi there I think it Wil not be easy to start with but if you are determined and are good at what you do ,you will do well . The biggest thing for you to remember when subbing out as you are still quite new is allways to be completely honest about what you can do . It's much better allways to Down play your skills a bit and then you have room to manover and shine through as time progresses . If you give it the all the big guns as soon as you walk through the door have to live up to your every word as soon as you get up the tree and more so giving you no room to move or any leeway Its better not to go out for top dollar to start with it gives you room to show your qualities and not be under any massive pressure Allways be able to give more and do a better job then what's expected of you . If you can do it this way you will be on a winner from day one Good luck and all the best Littletree:001_smile:
  2. I am so pleased you are having a great time to , it can be Really tough to start with as you will know too, but persistence and determination allways pays off . and as time goes on it just gets better and better . I should of done it years but better late then never Littletree:thumbup:
  3. I most certainly do I have found that having a female on the team defiantly keeps the chaps happier . Most girls working in arb will work really hard as we like to be seen as the same as the lads and a valuable team player. As a girl on arb it has to be something you really really want to do and be really determined to work hard and do well . I know all the companies I sub out to I allways work my sox of for them I have a great rime on there team and gain there respect . Coming into arb was the best life choice I ever made Littletree:thumbup:
  4. Hi there here is another one to add to your list It's a cracking job and think it's high time more of us girls got into it . I love my job with a passion . Also the other good side to it as a girl it is you will never need the gym and never need any fad diets . All the best littletree:001_smile:
  5. I know for myself and most other rope access tec when it comes to trees and climbing we all just say no to doing it IRATA style as it cannot work ? Initially some level 3s don't like it but I have there is always the stock answer and it allways works. It's the level 3s job to do or oversea the rigging of any work to be done above ground so if they still insist on IRATA style for a tree . I just say ok you go up and rig it for me first, and of course they cannot rig it so it second part is i ask for the risk assesment .in the end it boils down to they either let us do it NPTC way or it stays standing . Or sub out the work I think there will allways be this Gray overlap between IRATA and NPTC because trees will allways preceed rock work and need to be delt with . I think in the end they will just recognise it and incorporate it into there risk assessments as time moves on , as one rope work system does not work for everything .just like you would not use a spade to drill a hole . 6. No no don't Doooooo it it's a scam Littletree
  7. Best way to advertise is, Post card sized cards in your local shops ,cafs , everywhere you go and buy things on a regular basis take a stack with you most places will display then for free for you if you take a bit of time to get to know the shop keepers . Garden centres have notice boards , your local pubs where you drink eat , The fish and chip shop , your local takeaways when you have purchased a meal see if they will take a stack of cards . All my local ones do for me . If you ever do a car boot sale make sure every customer tbat buys something gets one you will chat to loads of people on your stall in a morning . 1 boot sale usually nets me 1 job for 8 quid a stall to clear your clutter and gain a customer is excellent value for money . Every customer you do some work for give them a stack to they will advertise for you for free word of mouth job done , A website it does not need to be expensive Do jobs for all your friends . The circle then gets bigger as they tell there's . Advertising is easy for very little cost it just takes a good reputation and a bit of get up and go and a passion for what you do and you will be a winner from day one . I can garentee it 100% Hope this helps littletree:thumbup:
  8. Hi usually it will be rope access companies asking for chainsaw opertivies with the IRATA ticket for the de veg jobs I do lots of rope access geo work I know in the rope access industry there is always a grey arera when it comes to cutting trees and problems arise when they want the trees climbing cutting with IRATA rope access style there is very little flexibility when it comes to different Rope techniques for different types of work . The other funny thing is a chainsaw operative under the IRATA banna are not required to have cs38 or 39 to use a chainsaw from a rope and harness . The rope access compainies only ask for Cs 30/31 for there operativies as the 38/39 certs are not recognised for IRATA work It all gets quite interesting Littletree
  9. Hi Steve I know it's boring and am not really looking forward to it . but I need to do them as I need to do some spraying I have to have those tickets before Im aloud to do it. Littletree:thumbup:
  10. Hi all I am needing to do my PA1 & PA6 as soon as possible . If anyone had a space on there course in the next week or so please pm me I don't mind where in the uk . Many thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  11. Hi there I have a ford transit and I had it converted in to a camper I had all the insulation done also a side window and sky light put in plus a diesel heater it has a toilet a cooker and a near full size bed and lighting . It's a really good way to go if you are staying away most of the time . With accommodation costing between 10 & 50 per night it soon pays for it's self . I live in mine most of the time as work uk wide for weeks at a time . It's the way forward for you All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  12. Usually the company have a second small container for all the kit but Not the chipper. But it's only 2% of jobs that they hire in chipper for as it's mainly rope access work we are doing but the odd job there is a large de veg needing one . Littletree
  13. Maybe for scrap but would be surprised as what they took makes me think they wanted Maybe wanted it for a chipper they have or Mabel building . They had been quite careful with the dismantling of the control panel . Littletree
  14. Yes I was surprised there was anything left of it ,most of it was still there. The company that I am working for had it on hire . but it had to be lifted over the fencing with the hiab so it had to live on site as it ment a full lane closure to get the chipper and welfare units onto site and the same later to get it all back off site so the chipper had to stay there over nights . Littletree
  15. Hi all I got into work this morning to our site on the m4 J45 and went to start up the chipper only to find the controll panell missing the shute and one of the levers that operate the tracks missing they had dammaged another one of the levers . I think they would of had the whole thing if they could off they must of been watching the movements of our team over the last 2 weeks . It was a Jensen 530 tracked chipper . Littletree
  16. Hi there I have my IRATA and all my saw tickets chipper and cherry picker Tickets . I am on a job in Wales doing rock work and devegging for 3 weeks but will be free after that so depends when your job is starting . ? Let me know some more details if you think I may be able to help you Many thanks littletree
  17. Hi there it's not easy when you first start but if you are determined then it will pay off . If you have a couple of skills that can make you money then helps you with options . I do tree work and rope access work together they keep me busy I do a combination of private and sub contract work .getting 30/31 is a great start then 38/39 soon after The problem is there is an influx of new people with 30/31 it's the same in rope access to there is an influx of level ones . Companies are spoilt for choice this pushes down wages as the new people are prepared to work for less and less just to get a slice of the cake making it harder and harder . The are a couple sure ways to help you get ahead in the race , over time experience will be your biggest assets and then doing some extra tickets that will help you have an edge over all the other new people . A PTS and CSCS card is a big asset as it's sort after along with your chainsaw tickets .as then you can go where other newbys cannot . Good luck and all the best littletree:thumbup:
  18. That's great news really hope you get some work from them . Let me know how it goes Littletree:thumbup:
  19. Hi again it's a real shame you are so far away as I have just done some sub contract work for gibbon on hear they are looking for a trainee groundy / new climber . nr exeter They are a pleasure to work for a really nice bunch Just the sort of company that would be perfect for you I really hope something like that comes up nearer where you live . If you can get in as a groundy with someone and really work hard do everything with they ask to a really high standard even if just cleaning up do it so it's spotless and do it every day the same . I can assure you they will have you back and in the end you will have lots of work It's a hard business when you are new , just be sure to let them know that you are new and be very honest about what tree stuff you have done then they won't expect more from you then you can actually do as this can be a problem for new climbers but as long as you are compleatly open then you will have no problems and you will get on just fine and be able to learn from your fellow work mates and have great fun along the way Too All the best Littletree:
  20. Hi tree fella really hope you find some work soon . That's a real hard one. Give all the tree companies in the yellow pages a ring and never give up . You will get something else . It's a tough business but if you are determind you will succeed . There is lots of work on hear if you don't mind travling and staying in your van / or camping you won't be short of work I do different contracts all over the country I had a little belingo van and that did as my home for weeks at a time it was tight but served me well . Just got myself a transit now and had the whole thing converted so staying away now is just home from home . I wish you all the best keep your chin up Littletree:001_smile:
  21. Hi all I think it's a cracking post it sure has got everyone's fingers on to the keyboard, excellent . I think it's great to discuss whatever you want in the lounge , everyone has different views on there beliefs and it's great to discuss in a friendly open manor For myself I am a beliver But not a church goer my parents were really religious and I was dragged to church twice every sun all of my childhood . I really found it just so boring I really did not want to go but had to Nothing has really changed I never have found a higher power or any other higher being in the sky . I am siill opened minded and do believe there is a world beyond this one where we go when our life is spent down hear . Just my pennies worth for the post. Littletree:thumbup:
  22. Hi there if you can keep going with that company and get them tp let you climb and learn the job it's the best thing you can ever do as it's the only way to become good as a climber . There is no short cut to it . Climb every tree you can for them give everything you do 100% Do all the stuff they don't want to do it does not matter if it's full of ivy and dead wood each one is cracking exp and the better and better you will get . If you love the job you do work really and have a passion for it you will succeed . It's not always an easy road and there will be the rough with the smooth But just be determined and it will pay off . I really love my job and I have never looked back Good luck and all the best Littletree:thumbup:
  23. Well it looks like he is only taking some stuff for himself as he is using a wheel barrow to transport it .he may well just be cutting the windblown and dead wood so may well be doing nothing wrong . If you are worried take your walk tomorrow and just see what he does , If you are moving into a new place you will have new nabours and may well be your future customers . If it were me I would just leave well alone unless he is taking your wood as you would not want to stire up the mud before you have even moved in . Anyway it's only just my feelings on it but it's up to you to decided what to do or not to do in the end . All the best littletree:001_smile:
  24. No she cannot unless your contract guaranted a 2 year life span the life span of the hedge She has not a leg to stand on Littletree
  25. Good luck just remember don't get hood winked you have forfilled you duty . You don't really need to revisit her she only wants to get you back there to try to get money out of you and make you feel bad Ring her back and tell her there is no need for me to revisit you on tue as my job was completed 2 years ago and you are not prepared to do any more about it or give a refund . My advice don't don't go back you will regret it Hope this helps Littletree
