  1. This may interest prospective new home buyers or anyone who notices applicances/ lights dont last long at home. We've been replacing light bulbs v regularly in our house so, being responsible, we got in a sparky to check the house wiring. All the light fittings are recent so weren't arcing (which apparently shortens bulb life). It turns out we're close to a substation and the National grid put the voltage up so that those at the end of each supply line still get 230V (+/- 7%). This means those nearest get a higher voltage even during peak usage times. He's recommended a package costing £700. Just wondering if there are other options. I've asked on a DIY forum about a transformer /rectifier to cut our 253v down to 230v. Not had much joy. Anyone else had this prob? Other than moving what else can we do?
  2. See https://www.quora.com/How-many-enemy-soldiers-did-the-average-soldier-kill-in-WW2 ... turns out not many soldiers in WW2 actually saw action ie combat
  3. Hey Mull, I was in Dervaig in the 90s and chatted to a sheperds in the local then. We have a small flock down south and have it easy by comparision. Still, I know what you mean about grass not growing in Spring. We had ewes in last year in April:

    Jokes???

One for the ex-service: An Officer In A Hot Air Balloon An officer in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted an NCO below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The NCO below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude." "You must be an NCO ," said the officer. "I am," replied the NCO, "How did you know?" "Well," answered the officer, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is that I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip." The NCO below responded, "You must be an officer." "I am," replied the officer, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the NCO, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow it's my fault."
  5. There is some hope for an ocean plastic cleanup: https://youtu.be/RLAq19hGTBw
  6. Went to try this today and was quite impressed. The seller had it in the woods and it did everything I asked it to do going up and down leaf littered slopes. He wants £4k+VAT. I'm thinking about it
  7. We're going to view this truck linked below, what do you think it's worth? wessex chipper on ebay The importers said parts are still available
  8. We've got a place near Batheastern 7 miles outside of Bath that would OK for tipping chip on hard standing PM me with your number
  9. looks like Boris is "on manoeuvres" testing the water for another leadership bid. If you think the Maybot was bad, remember Boris's last campaign
  10. Politicians are the few paid for by the taxes of the many yet backed by the few who have most of the country's wealth. It's only natural we manual workers respect those property and landowners who are in charge. Most of us here probably vote to continue to have them stay in charge because most of us work for them after all http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/001_smile.gif Trouble is the UK's household debt is the highest in Europe. Most of us are living on the never-never, the youngsters more than most http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/confused1.gif Corbyn has got (1) some of the UKIPers back on board, (2) the old LibDemers supporters who have had a change of mind (again!), (3) the swinging voters who are that weird group who aren't tribal and don't think of politics like footy, and (5) these youngsters who have been persuaded to try their voices out at last. This swing to Labour is just a rebalancing. Most of us have hearts as well as heads and can understand that. Labour as an opposition will now be able to reign in the extreme brexiteer's excesses which is good for everyone - including non-wealthy brexit fanatics As national income inequality increases (wage stagnation, falling £££ etc) and as the rich can only get richer and poor poorer, the Tories are going to have to find something better than 'strong and stable'. Look at all the funding they had compared to Labour. It's a battle between money and ideas, property and hope for a better future. This is real politics- everything is up in the air and everything is to play/pay for
  11. Remembering Labour's anthem and Tory's offshore tax havens, this thread has shown that tomorrow's choice is defo more complicated than this old 90s Ad: [ame= ] [/ame]
  12. Here's a pic of an identical one I found online: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--A68ufStzuY/UIrl8xR00WI/AAAAAAAAE7U/BzMkXakyWvg/s903/mini-IMG_0217.JPG Looks like you're right BB. Thanks. I'll let you know how I get on
  13. The knuckle ram on our old cranab is leaking. I've spent a while turning and turning the gland cap on the rod end of the ram but it ain't gonna come out. Its the type with three 10mm holes on the face plate that the rod comes out from. Anyway it wouldn't unscrew so can't get to the seals. I suspect the thread was crossed the last time someone replaced it ... So Plan B. Has anyone got a scoobies on what to do or even know of anyone with a spare hydraulic cylinder ram? I've tried JASP Wilson's website and will phone them tomorrow We don't know the model number of the cranab (no plate nor stickers) but it has a 10 metre reach and a horizontal main ram tucked under the main boom and a two stage extension. Rough Measurements are as follows: rod 63mm ram 135mm eye to eye 1050mm closed (ish) Hope you can help
  14. I used a 395 for milling and the chain tensioner bolt sometimes sheared. Sometimes difficult to spot but would explain the slacking
  15. think this is Ganoderma pfeifferi Never seen one this bright before
  16. Just out of interest (as I know it's in your garden), valuable walnut butts are often excavated out of the ground after having their crowns removed as there is a surprising amount of millable timber below the ground level. As others have suggested, the tree should pay for it's own removal... Though that's the forester in me talking...
  17. We use the 09TPS PTO version. Am told it's design hasn't changed in 20yrs so it's a proven design with angled fly wheel so you don't need top hp for seasoned cord chipping (as you know greenwood is easier on the engine), a screen to stop slithers/splinters getting blown into the chip pile and a bladed anvil as well. Only downside is we haven't got the stress control fitted. One day, I'll get one fitted... In short, old technology, robust (unlike TW ) but 6K sounds like it's a refurb, so good luck
  18. IT reminds me of the dirty water that gets trapped in spits and cracks in beech and dribbles down the side of the trunk, staining it over time as it goes. Looking at these stems, it's probably sap related So, at a guess, I'd say unfermented nocino?
  19. What spec? I know of a 2.6ton with trailer that came from Shaftesbury
  20. Sutton

    bulk bag

There's always fleabay Vented log firewood bag 1cu.mtr NEW
  21. one is listed here: Ron Greet Not too far from you either
  22. Same here. So the trailer could be reversed into a stand under its own drive but would need a reversible box to go forward. Not ideal if you're shy about jumping in and out of the cab. Thanks for your experience on moving axles. I thinking keeping the unladen weight to a minimum is a must.
