  1. As others have said, add another wrap to your prussik or get another krab and add in a munter hitch below your prussik. Either way if someone needs rescuing speed is of the essence so get them down quick....
  2. Agreed Mark. They can be some of the most beautiful forms out there.
  3. I agree with Detrius. No report required unless you've indicated structural damage or anything else untoward.......
  4. Right said Fred by Bernard Cribbens..... Well you did say moving.
  5. Sorry to hear this mate. Hope all goes as well as you would wish.
  6. Surely it's easier to just unclip your lanyard with a crab from the harness at the end of the day than it would be to get a spanner out to undo the mallion.....
  7. Definitely sycamore from where I'm sitting
  8. You also need to ascertain whether any of the trees are used as bat roosts before felling. If in doubt call your local wildlife trust so an expert can come and have a look,
  9. When I did my NRSWA course, we were told that stop/go boards gave you an allowance of two mins to stop the traffic. No mention of a stop works sign was made. I would imagine that more motorists are familiar with stop go boards than stop works ones
  10. Inspired by this thread, I've just sent the following to my nephew whose birthday it is today. "There was a young man named Will Whose bank account needed a fill So here's a small gift We hope gives you a lift Sent with much love and goodwill! I've just read this back It really is cack In fact a load of pigswill"
  11. CJM, like you I'm somewhat baffled by mountain man's reply........
  12. Going from the HSE rigging research document, a 1 metre length by 50cm diameter the weight would be 156kg. Hope this helps
  13. I'd recommend getting a Piccus test done. This is effectively an xray of the base of the tree to determine the extent of any decay. a local consultant should be able to arrange this for you. Hope it all turns out well.
  14. Back in the late 80's I spent a huge amount of time with living with buddists through the fwbo Brighton buddist centre. I met some very grounded, thoughtful and kind people. I still carry the lessons I learned from them with me today. I hope and think it has made me a better person.....
  15. Hi Steve I balls'd up first time before christmas and ended up just making a donation. I've just redone and now have ticket nos so all good. Thanks again for all your (and the mods) efforts with the forum
  16. No Never again! Not since I stupidly did and came back the next day to find it had been stolen overnight. This was in a private garden with shingle, a 5ft fence and 40ft of lawn before you got to the tree. That will be another 45m rope that I need to find the money for myself then....... As others have said, leave a throwline up instead.
  17. I totally agree, when the instinct kicks in, then you know its not the job/time to do it. There is always tomorrow. Was there any possibility of roping into a neighbouring tree and using that as your anchor point? I tend to use this method on nasty jobs. When you lanyard into the iffy tree, stick a caritool between the end of your lanyard and your harness so if the tree does fail the caritool snaps and you don't get pulled about/crushed. You might take a swing but this method does lessen the potential for harm... Just my thoughts Stay safe mate.
  18. Johnnys upstairs in his bedroom sitting in the dark, Annoying the neighbours with his punk rock electric guitar.......... One of my all time favourite tracks, always revs me up and puts a smile on my face!
  19. Very poignant and good post
  20. Ha ha Keep that up your sleeve as an emergency fancy dress party solution.......
  21. Do you mean you've recently had a short hair cut Wolfie?
  22. Just had a look and pretty enjoyable. The ex violinist/keyboard player from New Model Army - Ed Alleyne Johnson built a 5 string electric violin and recorded 'The purple electric violin concerto'. All his own compositions with no other instruments (e.g. drums like the 2cellos). Truly beautiful music that he makes, some quite trippy/trancy some quite angry. Check it out its probably on you tube somewhere
  23. When I was a kid the tree and decs used to go up on Xmas eve. Now we decorate about the 2nd week of December. I have to say I don't understand folk who put a tree and decs up in November:confused1:
  24. I had flu about 10 years ago. I was burning up then absolutely frozen to the bones, cold sweats, hot sweats, crampy muscle spasms, aching bones and speaking absolute gibberish. I'd rather have been hit by a bus It was that bad that its the only time my wife hasn't had a chuckle at my misfortune.... Truly do not put a really crappy cold down to being a dose of flu.
