  1. Got a few days work this week and next on the south coast, about 8 miles from Falmouth. General tree tidying jobs, several radiata to deadwood and a couple of self seeders to remove etc etc in a very very nice mature garden. This was the view from the top of one of the radiatas this morning: And this was the view after shaking hands with the zubat.
  2. Little so-and-so's. Really sorry to hear that. Trawl free ads and e-bay mate. They sound pretty distinctive.
  3. Forgetting hat is one thing, not taking your saw up the tree...well thats for your groundie to warm up and send up after you are up there anyway, and doing up your leg loops, well really....
  4. And arent we Lucky dave- we have our own cornish Phytopthora too!
  5. Only if you can fell it with two climbers in it at the time.......LOL
  6. Yeah- with the old paper licence its 12k. Tried and tested on the side of the road with VOSA. I refuse to get a new one. If they force me to i shall te;l them i have lost the paper one and keep hold of it. T ossers.
  7. I have gone the other way- fitting oversize mud terrains and a roofrack. I reckon it feels like the landy is getting old on a 300tdi!
  8. Better off without the ones that think they are doing you a favour by dragging you out for half an hours work i reckon. They only quibble anyway.
  9. Deano- i wish i could've been a fly on the wall in london last weekend.........LMFAO
  10. orry mate, i think i may have misunderstood things- that tanaka code you put in brought up a brushcutter i think, which i compared to a stihl, so you may want to check what i wrote earlier. I have to agree with Steve on the cut thing, althouh it does depend which model stihl, as i had one which the quality of cut was sacrificed for size of branch it could cope with, there was a different gearbox for a finer cut.
  11. Sod that- i'm probably awful too- not sure as i havent ever really climbed with anyone else to judge- its all for a laugh mate. Go on, you know you want to. As long as i dont come last i wil be hapy. Second to last will do me!!
  12. That would be perfect for this weeks job......big garden, all chip to be removed from site, and lots of long conny and few branches to drag up a 100m slope in outback heat:tongue_smilie: I could've grabbed loads at a time and done it all in a couple of trips today. I got a cheap labourer instead haha. Ed, is there a machine you DONT know about?

  14. I thought he was all over the big smoke? No doubt the truth will out when he comes on line tonight and sees the heading of your thread:001_tt2:
  15. Coigue beech- nothofagus dombeyi has vaguely similar sounding bark and leaves can become reddish. A pointer maybe?
  16. I am inclined to agree with you. maybe you should get some other prices on the stihl machine- there are several on arbtalk who can supply, and they all do good prices, and Jonesie is having a show this weekend in kent where there are good deals to be had i am sure. That tanaka is 1.1 hp, 21cc machine right? The stihl fs50 is the same power and i have found one on line for £130, the tanaka being about£190. I reckon that you should stick with stihl, and go for it. Good luck. What happened with the maniscopic in your avatar BTW!!!?
  17. I know a couple of guys who have tanaka gear and love it. I think that the engine is basically ok- its jap after all, but its all the other bits that will let you down prematurely. If money is an issue- it usually is for me!- then look at a second hand stihl maybe? I looked at one the other day- it was a pole pruner. Like you the dealer was trying to get me to buy tanaka over stihl, but longevity is an issue for me, and it was a very heavy machine compared to its stihl counterpart- felt clumsy. Bought a hyauchi in the end!
  18. Juts waht i wsa tihnkign:elefant:
  19. I think that is true for any college environment. I remember being on a farm years ago. We had scraped the yard pretty well for the vet to come out to look at a heiffer, and a fresh out of college girl turned up and refused to get out of the van as there was cow s... everywhere. She was used to brand new pressure washed yard and cattle crush etc etc in colege, who hadnt told her that the reality of things was that even on the cleanest farm there is a film of dung over evrything.
  20. Ty, i may be speaking out of turn here, but dont take anything to heart here. You are in the fortunate position to have access to one of the most amazing knowledge databases ragarding "tree stuff" possibly in the world. The combined experience and expertise on this forum is par excellence, and you can but learn from it. There is 1000's of years woth of combined experience on here. Because it is a forum and not face to face conversations then posts can sometimes be misunderstood in their flavour. This isnt to say anyone is necessarily 'putting you down' or anything. Absors all of what you say, and remember that we all started somewhere, and experience makes the comments and replies.
  21. Bring it on:001_tongue: I did get a log splitter sorted...................you've all seen the evidence:001_tt1: Seriously, yes i did ta. Going to tap up the eminently helpful Timber Cutter Dartmoor later on.
