  1. Nasty. I mentioned to an NT property that the disease on a particular tree (in another recent thread...) was possibly P.ramorum.........he said 'not too worried abouit that'!!!!!!!!!I'll be having words.
  2. Ash is fantastic timber. It is strong and clear grained when straight, and is traditionally a furniture grade timber in the rustic tradition- farmhouse tables etc were traditionally ash. Thats not to say it cannot be used for other things, although it's coarse grain tends to make it less suitable for fine finish work such as mahogony for example would be used. It isnt useless outside- cart shafts, morris (car) traveller bodywork, morgan cars chassis are ash i think too. Olive ash is sought after by furniture makers for the dark stripe in the middle, caused by a non damaging bacteria, or very wet growing conditions- the research is not definitive.
  3. I have to say i agree with you there josh. I have been looking at a tree at the top of my road shedding limbs for a while now, and have finally plucked up courage to leave a card. I knocked on the door and before i had finished explaining my visit she smiled and said "great, estimate please!!." I told her a figure, and she asked how much to take the whole tree down as she had plans for that part of the garden. I gave her another figure and said i would leave her a card and suggested she get another quote too, and left saying thanks for her time. I also apologised for cold calling. I have done this on one other occasion about a very gig heavily leaning radiata. The guy was a bit cagey with me at first, but after a few minutes of chatting he admitted that he was wary as he had had a lot of (in his words) pikies calling in the past. He took a card and asked me about 3 other trees too, which i subsequently took down. I did feel a bit 'rogue trader' whilst walking up the drive though!!
  4. Curved Zubat i think i have. Whichever you go for, if you climb get a 'sawpod' holder- they're great!!
  5. I thought that when someone was in the basket only they could control the handler, and that for a baskt to meet regs it must have controls? I remember a lock out in the cab of some sort- maybe the steering, but may have been the joystick- in a 9m merlo where i used to work, which i think was to do with a basket. Coincidentaly, i was held up today by a gang on roadside tre work using a handler with a basket- i never looked in the cab...
  6. Good effort Robert. Really nice to see something good happen to people like them who have been stung out of what is often a large portion of their life savings, what is soo bad is the abuse of trust of the vulnerable.
  7. SWB is right, he just forgot to say watch the numbers you acquire......they seem to have a habit of mysteriously multiplying in my experience...........
  8. Dirt in the oil wasnt it? Sorted now anyway:001_smile:
  9. Good dea, but potato and bulb crates are much bigger.

  11. The stupid thing is that if you wanted to borrow shed loads you wouldnt have a problem- its small stuff they arent interested in at the mo- exactly what they have been told not to do. Tossers.
