  1. Horse chestnut is used alot in churches. Its perfectly good timber in the right place, and whats more, spiders wont go near it. I dont know what its burning qualities are.
  2. You're right mate- I dont know what hes on about either lol.
  3. Skyhuck is pointing out that i am being a hypocrite for criticising Ady's possible double standards, when i admit to being a ton over weight in a landrover and trailer. hes probably been on the rose again:lol:
  4. You sound a bit like the guy on radio 4 mate. that is a pi ss poor excuse to drive like a tw at. There is no excuse for speeding, and if you get caught or, heaven forbid injure or kill anyone, you deserve EVERYTHING that gets thrown at you.
  5. Ade- that is one of your best posts mate......berating someone for being 36 in a 30 zone, then showing beautiful double standards regarding motorway speeds!! There are plenty of areas where a 30 zone is totally inappropriate (such as past the showground on the a39 at wadebridge, where no children live, and almost nobody walks. A 40 would have done. You have to draw the line somewhere, and it has been drawn at 70 on motorways, and IMO it ought to be less. I see these morons in super powerful penis extensions driving along with the attitude displayed by a caller to radio 4 shortly after the mobile phone ban was introduced: 'I have a big safe car, with ABS blah blah blah...therefore i should be allowed to sit in the fast lane at 100mph on my phone'!!!! He was a 58 year old guy. That is why motorway speeds are just as important as 30 zones, and when it goes wrong at those speed, with the tiny distances alot of these motorway types drive, tailgating and flashing headlights to get people to move over, it goes wrong spectacularly.
  6. Try salicylic acid too- that works well on returning holly back to its original colour, when green still, so may be of some use here, but only seems to do anything in the early stages of drying if at all. Its a recent experiment for me, so early days with it yet.
  7. Standing sycamore up is not a space saving excercise, it is essential to ensure correct colour of the timber when dry, and no mould problems. If you have had success putting them in stick straight away you have been lucky. I was the first time i milled it when i knew nowt about milling (not that i know much now lol) and got away with it, but the first time i was caught out i ended up burning 2.5 ks worth of kitchen worktops as they were black through!!!
  8. You will be very lucky to get them back to god (the syc).It is probably the most fickle timber to mill. Unless you stand the boards upright the very second they come off the mill, and leave them upright for a while they may very well get ruined. That mould could go right through the board, or at least turn the timber yellowy brown if not totally streaked with mould. YOu need to get ALL the sawdust off them immediately too. These boards were left for a month before i lay them down, but in the time it took me to take them from the mill across the yard and into this barn, they suffered!! Thats how difficult sycamore is. They only ended up with two VERY small black streaks, but even so! The problem is that sycamore should be bone white when dry, and even golden/ yellowy stuff is very difficult to market as sycamore if you see what i mean. Most mills wont touch it. It also should be cut when there is little sap in it if its to go milling. I would get them somewhere very dry and stood upright, and you MIGHT stand a chance of ending up with something. Or wrap it in plastic and hope it spalts not rots!

    Ms 381???

If it exists in oz and it takes him 2-3 weeks to get them it adds up. It certainly looks like a stihl!
  10. Me too. The ultimate in winches- even a hydraulic one can over heat.
  11. VERY good news. I would be extremely interested.
  12. YOu back in tree work then Big Stu? I thought you had gone into demolition a few years back?
  13. If its an 88 or 90 its not a hicap. The HCPU is on a 110 wheelbase. (some 130s have a version of it.) It has beefed up springs and the rear tub is wider than a normal one, with a full width tailgate, and seperate from the cab, which makes them the perfect donor vehicle for a tipper conversion.
  14. Contractor nr staustell, but goes all over the country- does alot of rail work too.Sound bloke, lots of gear.
  15. If the PTO dropper isnt there then dont do a swap with cash, as you will be getting a lump of metal to bolt to your landy, and he will be getting a working winch! The PTO unit and shafting are like hens teeth compared to the actuall winch, which is fairly easy to come by. You will need to trawl around the shows and swapmeets and phone small independent dealers/ breakers for the bits, or pay a fortune for new stuff. As far as fitting and using PTO winches, thats easy peasy. Firstly fit the winch and bumper (you will need the correct bumper- the ones that the likes of warn 8234 and superwinch x9 fit arent big/ man enough). Then you run the shafting back past the engine and gearbox, fitting the two brackets (one to the sump the other further back (i forget where and its dark outside)). Then you can offer up the PTO unit. To fit this bit You remove the plate at the back of the transfer box, and bolt the pto unit on in its place. You will have an operating lever that runs from the top of the pto unit through a hole you need to drill in the seatbox, and you wil end up with a handle next to the handbrake lever which engages the PTO. In order to use the winch, you put the lever on the wich tio 'spool out' (ie you disengage the dog clutch in the winch), spool out as much cable as you need, put the winch back in gear, put your transfer box in in neutral, select a gear, and winch away. You wil be the proud operator of the best sort of vehicle winch available- 5 speeds, loads of horsepowers, and it will not overheat. You can get spares for it easily from Superwinch in Tavistock. (Dave Bowyer is a waste of time with PTO winches).
  16. Even with the tracks in those 530ts are mega stable?!?
  17. Not a patch on massey mate. Case are fairly budget machines. (now mccormick, and they really are pretty crud). The 390 was a good solid machine, the only problem was that sometimes the oil seal to the front axle would go, but wasnt too big a job to sort it anyway.
  18. There should be 2 rings in that saw.
  19. Thats the one- I knew the dorset one had been surpassed!
  20. Get some of these badboys- i think its what your man in the vid ate- was thye strongest chilli in the world a few years back. Think its been surpassed now though- highest scovile reading ever!Dorset Naga
  21. Top stuff mate. Keep em coming. Where do you work?- as in what do you mine?
