  1. Tops swinging and hitting you can be avoided by using what i call a dogged step, so you cut almost all the way through from one side then cut down at 45 degree like you would when doing a dog tooth felling cut and the remaining wood should stop they chunk for swinging back at your head.
  2. You didn't tell me there was bird crap involved when you asked for a hand... haha
  3. Sorry about the quality taken on my phone, The first picture is a cavity in a 70ft Black poplar pollard, it was big enough for myself to fit down but was unsure if i could get back up haha The light you can see shining in was about half way up the tree. The seconds just a small conifer dismantle

  5. I know a guy who had his anchor point fail and fell i think it was 40ft and was hospitalised for 2 weeks, he has lost most movement in his left arm and was told he was lucky to live. He struggled to understand why it happend when he done everything right really knocked him.

  7. I use poison ivy as my short rope and love it very light, soft and its very easy to tie knots in. I have found it milks a lot though I use it with armor Prus.

  17. http://www.force4.co.uk/ProductImages/fullsize/060351.jpg I had a set if these, best gloves I bought so good I decided to leave them on a wall somewhere...... and Tom those gloves are too bright haha
  18. There was about 12 of us at the start of the course Mike, my tutors had both varied experience in the industry one had done many years work with the forestry commission and had and ran his own business while the other had been a climber for a few years and liked his new and shiney tech, so we had the best of both worlds with someone with old school knowledge and another from the new school. They also made it very clear what working in arb was like and often told is that things were done differently than the way they had to teach it in the real world. As part of the course we had to do 400 hours of work experience on top of our course .
  19. I finished college in July and have been employed since, I think 3 of us are still doing it, but not sure what the rest are doing, I think some people expect to leave college and be a top notch climber without having spent time on the ground and the trees you climb at college are pretty ideal no nasty conifers or ivy covered stuff so some I think some people lose their motivation
  20. Glad to see you taking this approach to it Steve a lot of people would just let it slide, Nice one fella
  21. Nice takedown Mark, good day for it judging by the clear blue sky in the last picture
  22. I don't know about anyone else but I found the questions about fire extinguishers the hardest, well until I realised there was a set behind me haha
  23. Even if you do a trial day for nothing and don't get the job its still. a learning experience, you can always ask for feedback and improve for the future.
  24. Surely it makes sense to just do it and show you are willing and keen, instead of worrying about the legality of the situation.
