  4. most of our work is from several LA's and other large organisations, most of the work is reductions ,thins , dead wooding oh and felling shed loads of pines and macrocarpas , but the work is really varied , whats your most common work up there mark oh and forgot to mention riding on crane hooks
  5. the crane companies R/A allowed it and so did mine i used a cambium saver with a rub safe guard to ensuer there was no abrasion to rope or cambium saver but yeah i would expect they would not like it
  6. i have spoken to two crane companies and there take on this was that as long as the cranes lifting hook does not come into contact with the tree and that you make your decent into the tree using your rope system there is actuall nothing wrong with it as long as the cranes hook can not open . secondly there is no LAW against it , as long as your kit is LOLER'd and the crane driver is happy to cive you a lift . have a think about how they are allowed to use a man basket from a crane ????
  7. sorry to derail the thread but tht looks a nice truck in the back ground have you got any pics of it you could post ?? lol chers

  9. well said steve , i have done 2 days utility work in the last 4-5 months and they were only for booked shut downs , nothing against the guys that do the job full time but it is not my ideal kind of work to be doing
  10. i run my own tree surgery company and like you i enjoy the arboricultural side of the job , i was offered some subbing work for a utilitty company and took it , i dont really enjoy the work anywhere near as much but it does earn me money , there is plenty of it when i need it and the way i see it is that at least if im doing it im doing it to the best of my abillity rather than some of the hack and slash work i have seen , pluss its a great way to pick up private work !
  11. yeah and i have lernt not to let the groundy have anything to do with the pictures lol altho i guess the above picture does show what not to do with a crane lol
  12. i was asking my self the same thing with the hi-viz stretch airs that i dought in feb , the fabric on the inside of the thigh to the zip area has worn through right beside the stitching all i have ever worn with them is braces as well , the proble i have is that they get used alot in winter on night time work so do i buy another pair or do i compomise on being able to be seen at night ???
  13. i have been using haix boots and over the last 18 months i have had 3 pairs, when i first started using haix im sure they were a much better and well boot the last two pairs of mine the sole has come off of within a month or two
  14. not sure on the price , jonesie had a pair on display up at the AA show , i think he said they were roughly 170 a pair but not certain of that
  15. i did have a look at a pair of these boots but the weekend after i went to the AA show and think i will be getting a pair of the new pfanner boots that are out
  16. down here in cornwall there are not that many pop's so i dont get much chance to work with them , oh and sorry for asking a daft question earlyer , i was too dusk looking at the pictures of the pop and dint look at the text above lol
  17. untill last year i had only ever had company vehicles when i was employd and my own work trucks for the 3 years so i decided to go out and get myself a car that i could not use for work (that way the missus will stop complaining of getting covered in saw dust and crap when ever we go out lol)
  18. looks like it will be a nice job to take it down , i must admit i dont hear of many pop's shedding limbs , what were the weather conditions like when it happened ??
  19. yeah i would be really interested in them !!
  20. verry true , i was messing with the £300 an hour bit , but i was not too far out is the rest of the tree being reduced at a later date , i couldnt see to wel from the pic's how far the limb had ripped back into the main stem . but nice pictures , it looks like a nice job to do in a nice location
