  3. great i may be in cornwall but how do i get onto your approved contractors list ???
  4. on the pluss side your kit stays dry and when you leave your truck your kit is securly locked away , on the negative side the dont carry quite as much chip . oh and the other BIG pluss is that you can recline yor seat so your not sat bolt upright and you can get some shut eye should you wish to at lunch time !
  5. great stuff so far my only tipple in the fencing panel department was a B&Q fance panel that ended up with a lumb of sycamore through it lol:blushing:
  6. as there are pictures it cant be anything to do with me lol
  7. so how well aquainted at riding the hook are you john:sneaky2:
  8. ask timberwolf , there is a tech help thread set up on here , failing that look through the members list and look for the one called timber wolf the guy is called steve and he is a great help !!!
  9. but still how are they allowed to use a man basket ?? when using the crane i have asked the opperator to stop the cranes hook from opening and they will do this . also crane drivers and crane companies are trained and taught and qualified to inspect the crane prior to use and after use . i was lucky enough to have a go at opperating a crane only two weeks ago , i was amazed how much technology there is in a crane's cab !!
  10. after reading all of the posts on here about chipper training i feel that there is almos an arrogance about training , traners and tranises , i saw first hand what can happen to a person that trys to kick brush/timber through a chipper - the lad lost his leg , all of the muscle, flesh, tendons etc were stripped by the feed rolers as he had his hands and other leg trying to pull himself back out . i dont know how many times i see people sitting on the hopper while the machine is still running . also is it not a good idea to teach people that know nothing about chippers why they should not feed rakings through the chipper or why they should trim off the ends of branches that are covered in soil or have bits of tarmac stuck to the end where the branch has it the floor but end first ??? in the end it will save all of us chipper owners alot of time and money !!!
  11. ouch now would hurt , maybe thats what the caption comp that jonesie put up is all about
  12. no is sounds like the title of a film on the adult chanels on sky lol
  13. ask him nicely andy he may have the odd broken fence panel back at the yard:sneaky2:
  14. most of our work is from several LA's and other large organisations, most of the work is reductions ,thins , dead wooding oh and felling shed loads of pines and macrocarpas , but the work is really varied , whats your most common work up there mark oh and forgot to mention riding on crane hooks
  15. the crane companies R/A allowed it and so did mine i used a cambium saver with a rub safe guard to ensuer there was no abrasion to rope or cambium saver but yeah i would expect they would not like it
  16. i have spoken to two crane companies and there take on this was that as long as the cranes lifting hook does not come into contact with the tree and that you make your decent into the tree using your rope system there is actuall nothing wrong with it as long as the cranes hook can not open . secondly there is no LAW against it , as long as your kit is LOLER'd and the crane driver is happy to cive you a lift . have a think about how they are allowed to use a man basket from a crane ????
  17. sorry to derail the thread but tht looks a nice truck in the back ground have you got any pics of it you could post ?? lol chers
  18. not a great deal of sound timber there !!! how tall was the tree
  19. well said steve , i have done 2 days utility work in the last 4-5 months and they were only for booked shut downs , nothing against the guys that do the job full time but it is not my ideal kind of work to be doing
  20. i run my own tree surgery company and like you i enjoy the arboricultural side of the job , i was offered some subbing work for a utilitty company and took it , i dont really enjoy the work anywhere near as much but it does earn me money , there is plenty of it when i need it and the way i see it is that at least if im doing it im doing it to the best of my abillity rather than some of the hack and slash work i have seen , pluss its a great way to pick up private work !
  21. yeah and i have lernt not to let the groundy have anything to do with the pictures lol altho i guess the above picture does show what not to do with a crane lol
  22. i was asking my self the same thing with the hi-viz stretch airs that i dought in feb , the fabric on the inside of the thigh to the zip area has worn through right beside the stitching all i have ever worn with them is braces as well , the proble i have is that they get used alot in winter on night time work so do i buy another pair or do i compomise on being able to be seen at night ???
  23. i have been using haix boots and over the last 18 months i have had 3 pairs, when i first started using haix im sure they were a much better and well boot the last two pairs of mine the sole has come off of within a month or two
  24. not sure on the price , jonesie had a pair on display up at the AA show , i think he said they were roughly 170 a pair but not certain of that
