  1. Hey, Could one of the mods possibly move this to the trading place section? I realise this might be better there...... H
  2. hello, Im looking for a smaller (4" but will consider larger) chipper to do up. I'll consider anything anywhere in the UK or Ireland and any setup (pto, powered, self propelled, etc). A 4" small towed one self powered would be ideal but come back to me if you have anything else for sale! Cash waiting. Thanks, Hugh
  3. Eeerrrmmmm, If anything Id have said that the overdrive is a better option to the disco transfer box as its permanently higher across all the gears while with the overdrive you keep the option of the low first and second. This is dependant on a level playing field in terms of cost though. I have had disco transfer boxes in my 2 tdi defenders, but id have second thoughts with a TD5 and if you more often than not carry large loads. They need to be reved to make them go and if the gears are too high you'll burn out the clutch much quicker. The fuel saving id say is debatable when you consider the cost of fitting a overdrive. Id suggest you buy a cheap disco transferbox off ebay and try it and then go from there. At least you can sell it on if it doesnt work out and put the origional one back in. H

    The Logjack

Whats the price of it? H
  5. The V8 is in and just running. I have been too busy to have a go with the gas. I may try by the summer. H
  6. I know this may sound obvious but is there any sign of rust staining around the header tank? I had a silly header tank split at the back and it took me ages to find it and isolate the leak. H
  7. I was looking at the timberking at the APF and over all of them, that is the one that I would go for..........but its so simple, if I had time and space, Id nearly build one.... H
  8. id re-itterate the above. Without the drop-box its debatable what its worth when you also consider what to do if it needs a new rope as well. The shafts can be made if need be but not the dropbox. The superwinch H14 comes up on ebay occasionally in both pto and hydraulic forms. so that might be worth a check. Ive the H14 pto winch. H
  9. Where are you based (with the series 88)? Id look on ebay but also keep a look out in the local adds papers etc as you can get great bargins. H
  10. From my research for the easiest setup you need a manually adjusted distributer to adjust the time of ignition (gas burns slower than petrol) and also not too large a capacity engine of a lower compression. EFI can be used but you need to use something like megasquirt to get it to run properly. Im building a V8 90 atm with a 3.5 V8 on carbs and in time I may have a go at building a gas setup. There is lots of information out there, as even the UN funded research in the 90s and produced a booklet and plans on how to convert a vehicle using everyday items in the case of a national disaster. I have a link to a copy somewhere. I can post it when I find it if anyones interested? H
  11. Hi, What year is your bedford or is she on a q-plate? Thanks, H
  12. Theres also a gap between the roof and the screen that does leak. When new theres some filler there, but with time this disappears. Might be worth checking. H
  13. Well you'd be looking at some sort of harvesting operation soon I would have thought at a guess. Either a thinning or clearfell. This might have a large bearing on the money being asked. H
  14. From the title of the thread I thought that you were going to be looking to buy a jap larch woodland...... In all honesty I wouldnt see a problem with buying a spruce woodland. The viability would be more of a financial cost benefit analysis with considerations towards markets and site conditions. Im not sure what virus you are considering for spruce? 1k acres is a fair size. What age and yield class is it mostly? H

....but dont cut it off.....they are very straightforward to put on and take off, just somewhat heavy. H
  16. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82lnkp1gtuU]YouTube - Fast And Powerful Hydraulic Log Splitter[/ame] Is this the one? I think they're about €750 but not too sure???? H
  17. Was just going to type the same thing. TD5 is post 1999 and a different kettle of fish. H
  18. Thumbs up to Bangor! I finished my degree there 3 years ago. I hope Christine and Colin are still there, going strong! H
  19. A nice mod I did was fit 2 batteries in parallel (200 amps total!) and a later Bosch TDI starter. I had no problems after that getting it to start. H

Ben, Id not bother with the willow unless it was already dry and not split. It has huge amounts of water in it and unless you can turn it translucent it'll split. The fruit wood is good to have though. I started out with an apple tree and it was very forgiving. I made a selection of boxes and bowls done both side grain and end grain. H

    woodturning

Ive only ever used firewood type material and I also turn 90% of my stuff relatively green (im not organised for it to be fully green). Its certainly the cheapest way to go about it. H
