  1. Atree, Havent you just bro a gopro..... Perfect excuse to use it
  2. Guys biggest expense would be your plane tickets, beer and possibly camping fees as some areas wild camping strictly illegal due to the number of tourists shot by anti poaching patrols roaming the bush at night but hoping to be able to radio into police/national parks to give co ordinates etc, Ive got friends for digs in Joburg, cape town etc and on the border of kruger national park for anyone into seeing the big 5.(lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo). Hama, I have an epic photo for you its on the ladies pc at the mo but will post up in fungi forum asap! Drew, Ive been meaning to get in touch but wanted to get slightly more concrete info for you. I have been led to believe that theres possibly some 85m+ eucs in a gorge that has never been officially accessed as apparently rope access needed for 90% of the descent into the gorge, hence why they've lasted..... Think your experience with marum would be priceless. Would you and the CET boys be interested in an african trip then? Oh and any of them fancy them selves as surfers? borrow a RIB and get them out on dungeons ( youtube it).

It wont be your fancy lodge african expedition it'll be hennessey hammocks and proper wild camping.. Would anyone be interested in joining me or offer any advice on planning a trip like this?. I'm going to try get in touch with millenuim seed bank and south african dept/agencies to see if I can make this more than just a good time climbing trees in the bush! Does anyone know any contacts that could possibly help me out? Many thanks guys:001_smile:

Bad vid!! Only because it makes me want to buy a gopro.... Get your next one up dude, make me give in to temptation. Glad you brought it? Good vid bro! keep em coming:thumbup:
  11. Just been sent these by a friend in South Africa. Adansonia digitata. Baobabs aka the upside down tree can take alot of damage happily, I've seen countless trees with holes straight through them measuring in meters. The elephants use there tusks to tear away strips of wood during drought periods. Amazing.... The artist is a mystery.
  12. Try as much as you can, nothing worse than spending money only to find something better afterwards:(
  13. SAM splints come in handy now and again.
  14. When a cats needed its obvious, but there are lots of cases of people panicking at the sight of blood, people apply tourniquets an add complications to whats actually a fairly superficial wound! I'm just saying be aware of when and when not to use it, I think cats and quickclot should compulsory items for Arb team kits! Yes preserve life by any means , I've used my belt and a filthy tshirt on a radial artery bleed, all was good!
  15. Lucky for nhs! Your hospital bill would cost too much! Get someone to teach you, if no one will do your 38! Simple! You'll need it eventually! As for kit, after some training you'll know what to buy within your budget and can price compare away to your hearts content! Don't be cheap with your life bro!!

    it's a whopper

    Find and a half!!!! Brilliant!
  18. Excellent doc hey dude! Some good does come of war I guess!
  19. Having a bit of a medical background it's my opinion a blood stopper/ military dressing is best take up into the tree an will prob never get used as most people drop out the tree for treatment! In all honesty 99% of personal kits ate inadequate for a massive haemorrhage! CATS are lifesavers no doubt, BUT can also be limb killers if used inappropriately! Due to the lack of oxygen and build up of toxins below the site its applied! Do you research before adding one! They are only for catastrophic bleeding and direct pressure should be your first call! Buy a personal kit put most the bits in your main kit and whack a blood stopper or "emergency care bandage" in! Id get a CAT and QuickClot gauze! NOT GRANULES and pop them in your main kit! Play safe
  20. I did after a few jars when I were a youth at 4am, kebab in hand. It fell over..... Just go for it! They don't have the option to refuse then!!
  21. Be worth it just to learn from him! Where is he? Got a mate in London Ontario
  22. nice pics bro, a kauri is on my list for sure!!
  23. Brilliant cheers steve, i'll drop you an email some time soon! How did that come about gibbon? Sounds amazing! A mate of mine did a bit in borneo researching ant colonies in emergent trees, How do you get that kind of work? Was it with CAL by any chance as they're only people i can seem to find who do canopy access.
  24. Nice and simple that, nice one! What do you think of tenex's durability? Thinking of splicing up some rigging gear with it.... Out of interest how many of you use a shackle on the tail of your line/throwline so its truly retrievable as apposed to removable.
  25. Nice guys, Both places I want to go... Looking at doing this summer in oz/nz! Might pick your brains at a later date Mr Ape if that's ok? Gibbon what where you doing out in s america, Research work? I'd love to climb some of the emergent trees in a rainforest.
