  1. Well said!!
  2. David, I'm completely on your side when it's comes to common sense it's our biggest weapon against accidents and yea i think this blame culture is a joke! See my smealth and haftey post! This thread is so I can get a better understanding of serious injuries most common to us and how people have dealt with them, I am a sub contractor and have seen some pretty poor excuses for first aid kits and general attitude towards safety! As for arb aid kit yes it's very dear, possibly due in part to the pelican case and quickclot/celox as they ain't cheap but it is a very well stocked kit! I'm in process of designing my own arb trauma kit with a much smaller financial outlay! Once complete I'll post up details so you'll can have a butchers! Why do we as an industry have such a crap attitude to first aid though? Is it the macho-ness of our job? Having experience of working on ambulances an rapid response cars I know how basics and slightly more advanced skills can save lives, but also increase recovery time! In all honesty some people's lack of basics in this industry scares me! Especially subbing when you have no idea if the people your working with, some don't know arse from elbow!
  3. Spot on there but see post above
  4. Fabric tape plaster or rock climbing tape is my plaster! There's no point in cheap plasters agreed! But sometimes you get one on a finger that needs a bit of tape to stop blood, I'm not one for letting the blood just trickle down my arm, forget hygiene it's just looks unprofessional front a clients eye. H&S can loose you contracts especially in the commercial world....
  5. Do you guys buy your harness kits and bin 90% of it or pop in in van kit an fill with more arb appropriate kit! I keep my plasters stocked up! My silky likes getting me above greenhouses haha! Beats asking customer for a bucket!
  6. Only used my tachyon on HC but everyone I know and have seen use tachyon on their spiderjacks! I'm thinking poison ivy might be good, interested to see what people say!
  7. Thanks for the info guys, I trust you have all made good recoveries! keep it coming! Sensible man Hama, I must admit it is the best kit available on sale ATM!! What are you guys keeping on your harnesses out of interest?
  8. Hey folks, Just doing some research into cuts serious silkys and toppers alike! Few questions I'd like to ask those of you who have be unlucky enough to get bitten! 1) where was the cut, if arms which one left or right? 2) did you start first aid In the tree, apply dressing etc 3) Were you rescued or able to descend 4) Was your personal and team kit adequate 5) Ambulance transportation or dis you get dropped off at a+e! Having a bit of experience in pre hospital and emergency care I'm appalled at the state of the laws regarding first aid training and to be Frank alot of treeworkers attitude towards first aid! I'm hoping to build up a big picture of incidents as so many aren't reported, so I can improve a) my personal medical skills and b) possibly improve and come up with solutions/ better practices for aerial trauma! Many thanks in advance for your help guys! Climb safe!
  9. But yes to all common sense is our number one weapon!
  10. Boots and wet beech where simply two examples bro, Stuff like ce marks on splices and en numbers for ropes, what's to say a beal access rope can't be used cause it's not en1891? Marked but chaps doing other rope work can! It's nuts!!! Would all this change if we left the eu?
  11. A pet hate in our industry aswell as many others, for example I know a fire fighter who says some laws cost more lives than they save! Being self employed does it give me the choice to say screw the chainsaw boots and opting for scarpas for example, when in my opinion it's safe, I.e big wet beech, doing a reduction mainly silky work but obv want better grip when using topper! And climbing on my own splicing, can I write myself a disclaimer and take full responsibility for my actions! Then how would this work with insurance too, they'd blame me not having protective boots for me closing my hand in the door! You get my drift but it does my nut! Any thoughts on the matter?
  12. Splice looks cool I agree, interesting to put it up against the kiwi version http://treetools.co.nz/_blog/Treetools_Blog/post/DB_Tree_'clip_'n_climb_'_rope_walker_specs/ Anyone tried both, pros and cons?

I'm on ally geckos mega comfy!
  15. Righto, will speak to drew see what he reckons! Cheers for your input bro
  16. What would you reduce that to then? Any idea what drews done?
  17. Cheers for the input bro, when shortening the bury is that the first bury? And would tapering the he'll out of the inserted cover help?
  18. Hey guys just ordered a load of op an ap cord for friction hitches! What lengths are you using and how are you avoiding the stiffness in the cord due to the buries? I've not spliced e2e for use as friction yet and ap is dam expensive so don't wana cock it up! Input appreciated!! Thanks folks Dak
  19. Ye I use both methods there bro, I use the latter 90% of the time. An yes your very right about the throwline cutting the soft eye! I guess I'm gonna stick with the throwline from the ground. Cheers for the ideas folks
  20. Right so tried that but throwline got stuck in the pulley. Any other ideas?
  21. I get you now kinda will try that tomorrow, easier to get my head around it when actually doing it and not half asleep! Cheers bro!
  22. Ah yes In fully aware of that, I use a ball on my splice to retrieve. Sorry should have been clearer, I'm talking about lowering it, I refuse to drop my pulleysaver on to drive ways , patios etc, to risky an pricey to risk
  23. As in climb up with the line attached to harness then clip on to pulley saver? You'd have to redirect the entire throwline when clipping line to pulleysaver whilst tying in.. Once again time is money! Am I missing something dude?
  24. Right so I'm interested in what you guys are keeping your throwlines in when retrieving your pulley savers etc! I've tried a climbing chalk bag, but takes forever to pack away an tangles up a treat which is a chore when moving from tree to tree, times money after all! Dropping a cube out the tree is hopeless. So what you guys using?
  25. I use tachyon an ocean poly e2e an love it although going to switch to armour prus soon. I vary my hitch distel ( found on celanyard ), vt an Knut! Play around, find out what YOU like, Celanyard is brilliant although easily made, I use a celanyard an love the versatility i.e double as second line and srt but no reason why another hitchclimber wouldn't do same thing, a mate of mine uses hc on lanyard and spike hitches instead of the thimble when using it single line.
