Pete, for similar purposes to you I guess (hedges) I use ladders with both Ankalad telescopic legs, the same as Steve B's, and a Titan Base Mate | Ladder Accessories - Buy online from HobUK The Basemate isn't quite as free moving as in the promo but it does the job. Jon

Be prepared for more work needed to shift rings bigger than ~16" trunk diameter: not many turners have a lathe big enough to handle the weight. Also when it comes to the smaller stuff (~12" or less) it's worth logging up between every other ring of knots so you leave the option of a tall vase being turned. Less cutting for you too of course. benhudson - how the heck did you get £30 a foot?! Good work!

Can't argue with that. I don't know anyone working there any more - sorry. Perhaps someone at the factory could take a coffee break wander for you and arrange something with a neighbour... -
If it's like the 620i the spout's clamped down with two bolts, then folds over and down to the ground over a long removeable bolt that acts as a hinge pin. 5-6mins in total on your own when you've got the knack but putting it back on's harder as the spout doesn't want to sit for you while you slide the long bolt back through the aligned base of the spout and the frame of the machine. But the whole thing's a doddle for two. Bet it's nothing like the 620i now! Jon

I realise you're not actually there but most of Crawley is a sprawling industrial estate: I'll bet there's something suitable within 200 yards of your genny if you ask about with some moolah in your hand. -
Daft thing is that if my 'old' insurer had asked for that I'd have paid in full there and then and reckoned on getting a bargain. The insurance industry surely needs to get the idea that people present risks, not postcodes or vehicles. I'm 51, never had a claim and been with my now previous brokers for 7 years on the trot - and they come up with a renewal quote ~70% up on last year! I'm waiting for them to call...

Had renewal quote from my current insurer through: without haggling they wanted £935! Took up your idea and quoted online with Direct Line. Didn't believe what the screen said so rang them and asked 'what have I missed?' No tools cover it has to be said but I've bought fully comp, wife to drive, business use for:thumbup:..... £375!!!!! One is grateful for one's suggestion. Cheers! Jon

I sold my Airstreams nearly new because they squeezed my slightly wider foot. I could put up with them for half a day but if I wore them all day I was hobbling the next morning.

I tentatively suggested having my MS230 ported and was advised against as the block is a 'clam shell' style construction, i.e. two pieces fitted together. It seems that that joint may not be up to the extra power from porting. So it may be that all smaller saws (Stihl anyway) are of similar construction: I don't know but perhaps it's a point an expert could address.

Trouble is the bank won't investigate and the Police can only do so much after sending information release request forms to the bank - all to find that the account was set up in a false name and address and has been mysteriously emptied.

I take it that star shake is the radial cracking picked out in red in pic 2 and ring shake would be - well, circular cracks where the grain has separated...? Jon

Thanks for the endorsement. Yes, that's exactly what it is. I don't see how you could go wrong without sloping the pins the wrong way! In a domestic setting though my heart would be in my mouth re utilities: I know they're supposed to be installed at depth but somehow seem not to be in every case...!

I've got one of those with 6 pins and a V-shaped flat plate still in its packaging if you want to give it a go. I bought it for stump pulling but haven't needed it yet. Jon

MP seedlings are very prone to damping off and similar afflictions. Niftysteve, did you get yours with an instruction leaflet? I tried that route a few years ago and germinated about 2 from 20; they lasted a week! It seems that everything has to be sterile and your fingers very crossed. Good luck.

Anyone fancy grinding 2 stumps for a lady in Swanscombe? I have pics for sending via e-mail. 1x what remains of a rotted out 24" false acacia; ~25% of the outer trunk left 1x healthy 28" ash Both cut good and low Level access straight off the pavement as last week's wind has opened up opportunities in respect of the panel fence, which is due for imminent replacement. Evening Austin. I'd be interested to know what woodlands appeal to you in my area - Caterham - if any. Sorry but the only owners of woodland I know locally have a few acres of chestnut/birch that was a golf course until the 1930s. Jon
