  1. My line of thinking exactly. The officialese trotted out came from Barrow Borough Council according to the report, not the HSE. Like you I suspect the real H&S people would consider that risk mitigation had been done, alternatives considered (and tried) and that the task had a proven track record of safe operation.
  2. Only if the owner of the vehicle is paying for the tax rather than the reg keeper, which would be unusual I'd have thought. But what's the trouble you foresee? If the person/company refunded is different to the person paying for the tax in the first place that's a matter for them - nothing to do with DVLA.
  3. But if the car's been badly damaged since the MOT was issued you can still get the tax disc. If the insurance expires before the tax expires the tax is still valid. That's why I said the RFL (Road Fund Licence) has nothing to do with the condition of the vehicle or the insurance status.
  4. Never heard of it till now! Cheers.
  5. You don't - those with access to the Police National Computer do.
  6. Agreed. Biggest issue with H&S generally is not itself but perceptions and interpretations of it. The word 'reasonable' does appear in the legislation!
  7. I've never understood why we have the system in the modern era at all. It has nothing to do with the condition of the vehicle, whether the vehicle's insured or the legitimacy of the person driving the vehicle. It generates a whole bureaucracy to run it and a minor industry in forgeries. If the government want to be paid for the pleasure of putting a vehicle on the road slap a penny on fuel: that would raise more revenue (I guess), save the bureaucracy and drivers would pay only for what they use.
  8. I think I'd be more concerned about the apparent risk from eating the warm soft cheese that will be served up on the board than anything in the board itself. Not too concerned then...
  9. That could be handy; thanks. Don't bust a gut though - a bit of work by myself would sort it too!
  10. Thanks. Glad I asked; I seem to have discounted Stihl bars then and it looks like there isn't a Sugi bar for it either.
  11. Can someone confirm what bar/chain sizes this saw takes? One seller says 3/8" with a .050 groove, others say .325" with a .050 groove. Is the bar interchangeable with other makes? If I could use the same bar/chain combo on more than one saw it would make life easier. At the moment I have a different bar and chain for every saw!
  12. Thinking slightly outside the box (I should probably get back in it!) is the material too tough for a rotavator? It's only bamboo; I'd have thought a mid-sized one would handle it.
  13. If anyone fancies some Ripeur 1s for mundane use or just to have as backup Safety Hut have them at £14.95 in their Clearance section.
  14. Depends on the hardwood but it was up on the hill (= windy) and tarped with open ends so I'd say definitely possible, yes.
  15. I would advise against keeping it in any pot. I put a small one in a commercial tree pot, i.e. something far bigger than any plant pot, and it struggled. Willows want their roots to run.
  16. I've already told him not to!
  17. No help Al but just so you know you're not ignored I did make a call to a builder mate re this; he's as busy as most tradesmen, being booked with months of work. A shame as he's only 2 miles from me. Jon
  18. LeeGray, your offer will be appreciated. Unfortunately it's near Reigate in Surrey! But thank you.
  19. This might help http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/12214-beauty-standing-deadwood.html?highlight=standing
  20. I found 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder considerably cheaper than anyone else. Not the easiest website to navigate but worth it.
  21. Hugely overpopulated. Perhaps even Indira Gandhi's attempt at compulsory sterilisation my be seen in the future as farsighted.
  22. The next curiosity question... when you say you want cedar do you mean Cedrus genus or Western Red Cedar, Thuja genus? I ask because I knew someone who was doing decent trade milling WRC for beehives. Thanks, Jon
  23. I think these have popped up before on here. Some wondered about the noise and exhaust fumes as you'd be working right over the engine. But with the Honda engine... what noise when compared to the racket of blades vs wood? As for fumes - well I suppose there could be an issue but if you allow for a breeze, a good engine, unleaded fuel and the fact that you don't stand over it but move back and forth then I doubt you'd suffer. I do like the compact construction.
  24. Looks like Pyracantha (fire thorn in Greek). Dynamite and a bonfire will sort it.
  25. if you're looking at wheeling the chipper manually check the weights carefully. I have a Jo Beau M300 and can run it up and down folding ramps onto/off my pickup. I couldn't do that with the next model up, the M400. The next one again, the M500, is self-propelled. Jon
