  1. Who's helmet is resting by that big butt?

  3. Great innit. Charge more for a compliant piece of extra steel which I just take off again.
  4. Chip; £25/metre Log; as above 41/t - 35/m Fencing between the two; bar not worth cutting as same as chip. Is it PR infected?
  5. Thanks for posting. to this now.
  6. There is another inguinal hernia thread on here somewhere. Had the op (non keyhole - wasn't advised at the time i.e seen as inferior risky procedure), mesh job, very painful the next day but got better quickly and did take the 6 weeks. Doing too much too early only worsens it imo. Limit your abdominal pressure thereafter was advised. Went private, not NHS, superb job, no issues at all. Think I couldn't drive for 4 weeks or when you were able to emergency brake. Waited a year for the op hence why went private. Was in a sedentary job at the time - I seriously think that allowed the fibroblast tissue to get into the mesh and get strong; physical job would have done it no good at the time. Returned to timber cutting a good 2+ years later.
  7. Welcome to Forestry Contracting
  8. Must admit, whilst I applaud the relaxed and positive aspect of "move on, don't worry, enjoy the day off" kind of comments I find myself at odds with them. For some, losing a job is the difference between being able to scrape together the funds for the mortgage that month or not. Wish I had the dosh to not worry about losing work.
  9. Rumours spread faster than facts lol! Mostly beech; did he say it was processor size? If so it will have alder in it too; I can show you the timber or tell you where it is if you want to have a quick peek!
  10. Was it the stuff Jonny Lawrence brought from Maristow? It was definately sweet chestnut, Nozzy cut it.. Used to call it poor mans oak but it's nicer to process as you say. Takes so long to dry though, does your head in. What you say about DF is right too; I've got some that is bone dry and some that is soaking from the same stack; what the hell. I hear you're buying some beech from Walker?!
  11. On the flip side, they fall to bits - proven. My mate had a 560; has just about lasted 2 years in full time cutting but with many new parts along the way. I've got a 1999 Stihl 036 that hasn't stopped since it was new (16 years!) and only eaten 2 spark plugs, two brake bands and some starter rope plus B&C's obviously.
  12. Good post. Only thing I recall the surgeon saying to me is to "watch my abdominal pressure" i.e. bloating, weight etc.
  13. Good video that.
  14. Your grammar is correct but what's the point?...
  15. Actually I said a) the law is the law and in this case it needs changed and b) the policeman should have reminded the parent, not intimidated the child. I am huge believer in the rule of law; lawlessness is a very dangerous slippery slope. But a "1984"? No thanks. You can agree to disagree a bit more agreeably I reckon!
  16. Absolutely no need for wedges etc. Yes the 3 model I have isn't light but it's not that bad assuming your fuel can is a distance away and all you're carrying is the saw and the jack, not your can, lever, lunch box blah blah blah! You won't need a felling bar anyhow. Watching that video; still using sledge and wedge (more to carry), still possible to bury them in the back-cut, a lot of yanking the screw wedge; think the reipal a lot easier to use. One downside I can think of is if you have it against a big'un and the tree twists off the hinge it can throw the jack out but this shouldn't be allowed to happen in the first place. On the positive, you can pre load the tree before any cutting or before the back-cut and it doesn't get in your way. I always use a ring of timber under the foot to stop it sinking into the ground too much.
  17. AlgoClear Moss and Algae Killer - formally known as MossGo
  18. 30t a bit of a hyperbole. Awesome beautiful machine tho
  19. you sure about the 30 tonne? Link to specs posted above says 17
  20. Reipal Tree Jack, by comparison very good value for money (much cheaper) and doesn't need to go in the back cut. Love mine. See thread on here somewhere about it.
  21. Wasn't delimbing properly in spruce I think; kinda important seeing as that would be the majority species! I've just dug out this email from Kenny back in 2013: "Hello Jon Stuart with the Dinoma head has been digging with the machine until last week. Head is working however not too happy with performance Stuart is happy enough in pine but we dont think it is fast enough for spruce. The intention is to fit smaller motors which will give it more speed. we have the motors but are waiting for arms from Finland. We would like to see this head working and performing before we sell any more. I know we mentioned the stroke head when talking we are very pleased with that it just seems to work. The price of the AFM 400S head and control computer is £24,500 this head performs in hard and softwood measuring and delimbing well. Customers who have seen it have been impressed with its speed and how well it delimbs. The computer has 8 preselect lengths and also diameter 48cm saw bar The last 2 we have done have cost £6,000 to guard and fit head Head can be taken off and bucket on in about 20 min.
  22. I've actually seen worse..
  23. Seen some loony ones over the years lol but my mate just said in 2 years time he's going to get: SH17 HOT
