  1. I have had similar sorts of bother, What I did was to follow one them quietly back home and got the name from the electoral roll. The rest was sorted one to one when the guy wasnt expecting it. In a group they feel powerfull yet singly they are weak worthless ******* scum. I learned latter that his nose and arm were broken lol. No trouble since. In this situation, especially with kids I think you did the right thing but now Id be looking at CCTV, alarm mines and a dog etc. If nothing else a GSD, Doberman or Rottie makes a nice family pet and companion albeit with a bred in desire to protect your property and person. One of my freinds has a picture of the blood down the side window of his van after some low life thought he could grab his wallet from the drivers seat, beefy the staffy had other ideas and the bloke was done from DNA got from the bood traces lol.
  2. As above, Ive seen a large home made one, brilliant things.
  3. For get landrover, Id look at an isuzu troper comercial
  4. I dont use a top handle an awfull lot but personally prefer the stihl as do most the climbers Ive usedand met. The problem with echo will undoubtedly be parts availibility, if something goes on a stihl I know my dealer will most likely have it in stock or can get it in within 24 hours. With echo there is frequently a delay.
  5. "If that happened to me the Police would lose all respect I have for them and I would probably emigrate to somewhere that takes care and respects it's citizens rights to protect themselves and their property" Sadly I lost my respect for the police a long while ago, the law abideing get put upon and the crooks get away with it.
  6. "I'd go and sit with the shotgun and frighten the barstewards to death but it's knowing what time and day it's happening to avoid being sat about for hours on end every night" I really wouldn't write that on a public forum or you may not be keeping your shotgun or FAC. I know someone on a shooting forum I use who lost his license after similar remarks were seen by the police FAO. Alarm mines are the way forward perhaps even what you suggest but no need to broadcast it.
  7. Total waste of money IMO and an example of over engineering to please a domestic market. How difficult is it to slaken the bar nuts!!! Also the mecanism is sure to break.

    Stihl MS180

The smallest stihl Ive used is an 023, alright for knocking off fence posts but no power and the afore mentioned plastic casings. For small wood i like a o26, super light, reliable and reasonably powerful, at a push you can cut reasonable dimensions albeit slowly. The 018 on the other hand wont. Everything else I cut with 70cc plus saws
  9. Ive got a 575, had it 12 months, heavy in feel but loads of tourq, hapilly pulls a 28" bar, Ive had no problems with it but prefer my 441.
  10. Done quite a few different things since leaving school, farmworker, working for building firm, optical technician, breif spell at colledge and got saw tickets, job with forestry firm... Enjoyed this so went self employed happiest Ive been.
  11. The only thing you can knock about the 7900 is the dealer network and lack of spares availability. Asside from this its a beutifull saw and out cuts comparable stock stihl or huskys.
  12. Its an electric element, power taken from a small dynmo, you can turn them off. Ive never had them as the cold days are so rare 99% of the time the heat isnt needed.
  13. Stihl advance type A. Mine are fantastic, super light, durable and cool, also waterproof. By farr the best chainsaw trousers Ive ever worn.
  14. I run both a 441 and a 575. The 575 feels a heavy saw, but has buckets of tourq and is fantastic for felling big stuff, occasionally i stick a 28" on it and it pulls this very nicely. The 441 however handles a a lot better and in my unscientific opinion cuts a fraction quicker in small wood. Both saws have minimal vibes, and fuel usage is very good. I've had absolutely no problem with the 575 in the 12 months Iv had it. Overall If I had to have just one 70cc saw it would be the 441 (weight and feel).
  15. I cant say Im convinced by the coronet cut idea but if the client is happy to pay.....
  16. 260 is a solid reliable saw, very light and nice for use around the chipper I never had any issue with mine, consider also a husky 357 or 346. That said, for versatility and as a non climber my choice would be a 372, or 441/ 460 light enough to easily use all day and the power to pull a decent bar for felling, stick 15" or 18" on and it is really quick cutting and handy.
  17. Easy, that old dog of a tree that turns out to have nails up almost every inch of trunk. Or the customer who never offers a cup of tea or worse is sitting out in the garden on a scorching day watching you and doesn't bother to offer a cold drink.
  18. I use 50-1 with husqy XP oil, previusly I used 50-1 with standard Stihl 2 stroke. In honhesty the saws seem to run a bit smother on the XP, never tried Aspen.
  19. Two points: One, The guy made a silly mistake...... A bolocking, made to clean it up and some piss taking the next day. We all make mistakes. Two, Lying about it, To my mind instant dismissal.
  20. "Most large saws do not get a lot of running time. One reason they last forever--almost." Agree, Very rarely for the odd really big wood I borrow a 3120 from my uncle, not once have we both needed it at the same time. The saw is 5 years old and in this time has barely done more than a months worth of cutting days.
  21. Thats one nasty suprise of a hedge, looks like a damn good job you made of it.
  22. I buy all my saws brand new, had a few bad experiences with ebay.
  23. 357 on 18" 575 0n 20" , 25" and 28" 441 on 20" and 25" The 575 is very good with the 28" effectively doing the job of a 660. I must get a 660 some time but at the moment for really .big stuff I borrow a 3120 with 36". I tend to fell with a 25", then drop down a bar size for limbing before going back to a 25" bar to block up.
  24. Valmet with forestry guarding, Fastracs are fine on the road but bog down and rut badly taken off road. Never driven a mog or MB to compare.
