  1. He is not tied into the tree that he cutting, hence bong bong bounce. Also for some reason known only to himself he lets out some slack on his main line before cutting, increasing the lenght of his fall.
  2. This one is better[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEz5KsjXJP8]YouTube - Tree cutter[/ame]
  3. What ever you do to the poor tree is will look odd at best, SH:thumbdown:T at worst. Pine trees either need to be felled or left alone. Against my better judgement, a customer talked me into reducing a row of scots pine, which after two days carefull pruning they looked odd,and SH:thumbdown:T, and the customer then decided to have them felled, and replant with some smaller growing trees. It's your call............
  4. It took a long time. The bag is made from 30 carrier bags, which had to be rolled up and cut to form 1/8" loops. Then the loopes were looped together to form the thread to be knitted. All in all about 6 hours work. Hopefully this should last till i retire
  5. For freelance forestry we normally get £10 per ton, plus if we point the fencing posts, strainers etc we get £2.50 extra on the ton (plus we get ready cut fire wood once it has dried). Now that we are starting to generate our own forestry work we are selling timber track side for £24 per ton.
  6. Here's a little somwthing that my wife knitted for my christmas present. Made from plastic carrier bags:thumbup:
  7. We have had an 1" fall in about 1/2 an hour, just as the schools were going home. Pasted about 40 abandened cars and alot of walking people. Thank heavans for my landrover and mud terrain's
  8. The nuffiels is a 10/60, and the cab does not reduce any noise, if anything with all the rattles it make it louder. However the cab also has the roll cage, and occasionally keeps the rain off.
  9. Long live fiberglass rods. You can go higher than any thing else, and practice your big game fishing at the same time !! Back on topic by a bigger van that the pole saw will fit in. Simple ehh
  10. If you want to profile Pembrokeshires scruffiest tree surgeons, then we would be happy to be profiled. We have an interesting range of old landrovers, tractors, and equipment.
  11. If the offer is still open, i used to test and review outdoor equipment. Size 46 please !!
  12. Poke your finger in the hole !
  13. here you are found this How To Propagate Semi Ripe Stem Cuttings (Lifestyle & Home: Planting). Hope it helps
  14. At a guess, you would be able to take cuttings from the dawn redwood, but i would expect that it would have to be done at a particular time of year, and it will either be the soft growth that is less than a year old, or second year wood. Sorry i do not know it will be, and the dawn redwood is no mentioned in either of my old gardening books. I would try one of the gardeners forums, somebody will know. Sorry i can not be of any more help. Hangover starting to receed
  15. I regularly take cuttings from apple trees, which normally have about a fifty percent success rate. My grafting is getting better with practice, but i don't get enough practice. Look out for old gardening books from the 19th century, most of these have detailed instruction on methods of tree cultivation, and which trees you can do what with. clear as mud !! hangover is kicking in
  16. if you want a fancy knife, try one of these Deluxe Knives | DICK GmbH - Fine Tools You wont find any that are more expensive, my personal favorite is the Obsidian Knife by Suemori
  17. i like that broad axe that the second guy was using in the last video. If you have got the right wood, nice straight ash, a splitting axe that can be used one handed is still the quickest
  18. Marine varnish and sand. Chemical metal (if you can still get it) mixed with with..... you have guessed sand. In fact any thing mixed with sand, the more you spend the longer it will last. A world of interesting chemical awaits.
  19. Long gaffs are good on thin bendy poles, as your foot is not in contact with the pole it gives you more room to maneuver your feet with limited space. Incidentally, at what point does everybody stop climbing up, mine is when i can feel the pole flexing between the spikes and my strop !
  20. Here's the link for Raglan: Your Company Website
  21. Mine was done through the road training place at Raglan, but somebody is doing it in Swansea, if i can find there details will let you know
  22. Me and the family planted 40 or so trees for the tree o'clock event. I have still not heard weather or not we broke the record.

  25. Top banana, the trees won't show your handy work next year, sign of quality work.
