  1. I make my own webbing slings using a tape knot. About 1/4 the price of the ready made loops, and they can be made to what ever lenght you spacifically want. I think that the tape knot reduces the breaking strain by about 50%. But i have yet to break one, and i have used some for some highly inappropriate uses mostly involving tractors and large lumps of wood/stuck vehicles
  2. Only freeview
  3. It is probably all the sizes that they can not sell, and that do not fit normal people !

  9. 15 stone, 5 wraps, 2 turns. Using that balck cord with the kevlar woven through it (and i wish that i had not brought so much of it as i do not like it). Using the Marlow clibing rope.
  10. What pray tell is a telescopic reach tool, other than something to extend your reach ?
  11. Nice badgers chair !!! It takes alot of practice to get them that big !!!!
  12. Man and saw: £80-£100 per day, depending on volume produced Tractor: £50 per day Splitter: £25 per day. Fuel: £20 per day If the work is more than 5 miles away, you need to add in mileage/ transport costs.
  13. Handle may be for woman, but somebody that i used to work with, managed to loose his file in his forearm when he tripped over. Amazingly it took him 5 minutes to find where the file had gone, when he spotted the small trail of blood on his wrist. Surgeon could not believe that the whole file was in his arm until he removed it. You have been warned
  14. It's Sunday night, and my brain hurts: A number between 1- 10,000
  15. Holy cow that a lot of big words, and no pictures !
  16. Belly pork roasted on the prangs of a hay fork, is the food of the gods. Just dont expect too much work in the afternoon
  17. you have made my day, thankyou
  18. How far is it from your base, if it is far then the price goes down, also take into account the hassle factor. All of these will effect the price you offer. Always start well below what you think it is worth and Haggle Haggle haggle. Or can you keep the wood on site and process it there. That will save you all the transport costs. But get a signed agreement from the land owner. We lost about 6 tonnes of good Ash, becouse the farmer got a better offer, and we reduced the price for carring out the work in the first place in lieu of the firewood we could sell. We only had a verble agreement.
  19. I had a petrol hedge trimmer from these people, and dispite its cheap nature it has been suprising robust and reliable. They import by the container load straight from china. Tools arrive as they left the factory needing assembling and tuning. They also said that they keep spare parts in stock. You pays your money and takes your choice.
  20. Nicely laid hedge by way
  21. All our wood is cut to 4 feet in lenght (maximum lenght that the splitter will split) and split on the splitter. It is then stacked to dry. We then use a saw bench to cut to what ever the customer wants: 6 to 22 inch is the range that our customers want.
  22. We priced a dismantle for a monteray cypress to take two days. Six days later we finnally felled the last 20 feet of the stem. Oh dear !!!!! The owner took pity on us and gave us an extra £200, even with this, major cock up
  23. That would make sense, as most of the browning was on the west side of the hedge which bares the brunt of the odd blow of wind that we get here.
  24. I prune those loverly hairy hedges in april and may, when the frosts are over. The tree then has the summer to put on new growth, which then has time to harden off before the following winter. Having said that i did prune a hedge last week, but that had some burn, and i wanted to remove it while it is dormant. I have no idea if it will work, but i want to try something otherwise the hedge is going to cark it. I also laid down old blankets to catch all the clipping, to make sure that none were left behind. Then had a lovely smokey fire to burn it all.
  25. I so want to go, but i need to get the house water tight first
