  1. Not being funny, but is only having one team per area wise? Midnight on a Saturday I expect a fair few of us may have had a few....
  2. When I worked for Alfred McAlpine, they would occasionally 'buy' jobs to keep the staff busy till things picked up. Look what happened to them, though....
  3. How many cube of chip would a typical Mog with chip box hold? Presumably you would have to run a bigger chipper to optimise things? 8", 9"? And what would your legal carrying capacity be? And can you get those 'Dukes of Hazzard' airhorns for them? God, my imagination is running riot!
  4. What sort of price would you be looking at for a semi decent Mog? They seem to have sooooooooo many advantages, but some of you owners also seem to be pretty skilled mechanical engineers! Are they all left hand drive?
  5. My pricing is also affected by factors such as will I come out of it with decent cordwood or just willow/conny/pop? Will it be an enjoyable takedown or an awkward reduction? Will I get cut to buggery by hawthorn/blackthorn? So many variables! It also depends on your individual set up, and the distance you have to travel with each load. A 2-man band like mine would struggle to compete with someone set up like Huck on a big takedown, for instance, simply because with smaller kit you are going to be pricing more days on the job. Unless the job was in Kent, 'cos the diesel bill would snooker him! The best advice is stick your price in then forget about it. Price should be what you want to make, not what the customer wants to pay! Obviously if the difference is too great you won't get many acceptances!
  6. That cow shot is pretty grim. Where was that?
  7. Ouch! Hope it's not your drinking hand Mozza, only a month till Jonesie's show!
  8. Nice work Rich, but if ever a tree/house was in the wrong place - that's it!
  9. Have those jobs been done though, mate? I have priced loads of takedowns that are still there sometimes years later. "£400 to take a tree down! - thats expensive! I thought 2 of you would be happy to turn up with £35k of kit and work for £50......." Yeah,yeah,yeah......
  10. Done that with loads of big conny hedges and it has always helped. Take your time when pricing - it's not a race.
  11. Why did it have to come down? Great vid Mike. Some lovely little touches on there!
  12. That's the way I see it John. It would be nice to have an easy disposal method for arisings from endless conifer and willow jobs, or even make a few quid for them! I think as Ed has already stated, it would cost big bucks to go into mass production. It's all looking pretty interesting though.
  13. Class Reg. Some huge limbs rigged down in a oner there!
  14. Is conifer viable then Buzz? I must have burned thousands of tonnes of it!
  15. Mate was cutting down an old pollarded Ash stump, and kept hitting metal. He eventually bust into the cavity with a felling axe, and found a Lee Enfield .303 rifle with ammo and 4 Mills bombs. Well rusty, reckons it must have been stashed by a demobbed squaddie in 1945. The feds wouldn't let him keep any souvenirs!

    Worlds

Doh! I thought the Finals comp was in August for some bizzare reason. Mind you, I keep waiting for this s****y summer to start, so keep forgetting what month it is! Gump showed me how to footlock a couple of years ago during time off from a big Beech TD. I swear he would have beaten a squirrel! We had a bit of spare time because he and Ross (Tana Mahuta) basically turned a 3 day job into a 2 day this-is-why-I-like-treework fest.
  17. Wrong Huck. 'Stick another log on there love. Ta.'
  18. You given up on the blue telecom stuff then Matty?
  19. Day rate at the mo on a horrific hawthorn/blackthorn hedge. Raining this morning, stopped 10 minutes after arriving on site. Sunny all day. Started tilting down 1/2 hour after I got in and hasn't stopped. Which means it will be dry tomorrow.... I never hear what Becky says. I'm always too busy drooling and fantasising about what kind of 'hair gel' she uses....
  20. Can I book myself in for camping please Justin, in my "Trampervan". Transit with tent ready pitched in bed. Classy. Or would you prefer a proper e-mail? Not wanting to sound thick, but have we got plenty of wood for the fire? I don't mind bringing a load of cord up with me if required. 3 year seasoned straight grained Beech. Not. Conny/Willow/Pop mix. But I may try and flog it to Huck or SWB if you don't need it....
  21. Couldn't have put it better Mike. The fallen would not like to think they had died in vain.
