  1. Is it true you chogged the stem down in 50mm discs?
  2. Don’t forget they always buy themselves an immaculate white hard hat and a hi-viz and decide to ‘project manage it themselves’.
  3. That kicks the arse out of it a bit, you’ll probably get 2 bags out of a tonne, but that’s £45/bag before you cut, split, season and deliver. Can you not just do softwood?
  4. Do you know any farmers Jake? You might be able to trade some yard space for doing logs for the farm.
  5. My mate has this 10 tonne Oxdale which we’ve shoved up a few gardens. The ram stroke is way faster than my ageing cheapo 7 tonne petrol splitter. Twice the price, obviously. Oxdale SE400 Petrol Log Splitter | Iron and Earth WWW.IRONANDEARTH.CO.UK £2080 + VAT
  6. A tractor mounted machine is certainly productive, but what would put me off in your situation is the haulage you’ve described above and the fact you wouldn’t get it in to every job.
  7. Thanks Jules, and everyone else. It would seem a lot more logical if they had requested a removal, but this spec seems ridiculous, and smacks of yet another delaying tactic.
  8. 20-1? Are you a 90 year old farmer?
  9. That’s the theory I suppose, but will it work? It’s been dry here for ages, but will probably start pissing down soon until about April. I should see the report this week.
  10. That is pretty incredible Joe! I’ve always explained to people that the prize for letting a tree get into an unclimbable state is to have it straight felled in the cheapest direction. They rarely get like this overnight.
  11. Try Kirklands in Stoke mate.
  12. I do the bisexual zigzag/chicane thing already with one splice. I had a rope years ago with splices both ends and it ended up a bunchy mess in the middle because you couldn’t milk it properly. Modern ropes may be much better, of course. Splices like that on the Petzl Flow will pass through the zigzag.
  13. Why do you want a splice both ends?
  14. You’ll have the shits tomorrow, like. Guinness barrel was from c1985 at that price.
  15. Aahh, that will be why then. All the fruit will be immediately picked by those east europeans.
  16. It’s a great idea on paper, but as 42 pointed out, when has making anything illegal stopped people doing it? They should probably encourage smoking tabs, it would sort out the pension crisis.
  17. My mates have a subsidence issue with their house. 2 years ago their insurance company insisted that was due to their neighbours mature oak tree (TPO’d), and insisted on a 1.5m crown reduction, which was granted and carried out. The insurance company have done trial pits and soil tests (clay). The house is still cracking. They have now shifted the blame to the mature leyland cypress at the end of their drive. This tree is a maiden, and actually looks pretty good. Classic standalone form, probably 22m. Both trees are about 15m away from their house. The latest request, based on an arb report, is to reduce the cypress to 16m, and cut back extended laterals. Can anyone (with a bit of knowledge) explain to me exactly what this is meant to achieve?

    HS2 Over

I have never met a single person who saw the need for HS2, ever. Covid would have been the perfect time to pull the pin, they should have done it then. What an obscene waste of money it’s all been. Ironically I’ve just received a tax bill today. I’m very tempted to tell them to poke it up their arse.

    HS2 Over

You would like to think so Gareth, but this is the government, so I imagine it would be highest bidder.
