  1. Hey bro Big Luke is working for Parker Tree Care in North Shore. Did a few days for Tui. How do you access? Big Shot/throwline/SRT? Broadley will spew the next time he points to that Cherry in his garden!
  2. Did we ever have a satisfactory explanation for this one? LOLER guy one at AA show - pass LOLER guy two locally - fail Does f-all anyway (the wire), and I would be happy to use it.
  3. That last paragraph says more about our profession than the rest of the thread put together. Like it or lump it, that's the truth. I'm skilled, and happy. Tony, you are clearly more skilled than me. Your happiness should eclipse everything! All will become clearer when we all have a beer together this summer!
  4. Set your VT up on AP HC and leave it on your line man. Mines been there for over 6 months. 8-10 hours a day? VT (ok, Ropeguide is a must), makes you so quick Rich and I usually knock a days climbing out in 8-10 minutes. We then spend the rest of the day smoking opium and interviewing porn actresses.
  5. I tried a VT, found it temperamental, and went back to my trusty Blakes for a few weeks. Then thought WTF? I'm an intelligent bloke, if the worlds best climbers use it it must be OK, and I must be doing something wrong. Different hitch cord, DMM hitchclimber, oval crabs, adjust wraps and braids to suit your weight and climbing style - Bingo! Difference to work is like bowsaw vs. O2O. Hint - get someone who climbs on a VT to help. Miles quicker.
  6. It's more worrying that you 'worked me really hard' all day. The anal reconstructive surgery is coming on fine, though. I'd wear a suit if I was you, Will.
  7. Can't believe the amount of other life-forms up there. And I'm not just talking about your fellow climbers! Is one of them Drew B? Any vid footage? Different world. I'm reducing some connys next week.
  8. I've got one for you Phil. It's called 'free climbing'. Saves a fortune on ropes and that kind of sh**e.
  9. Totally agree TCD, but impractical attire for any physical element to an interview? ASK! It's free, and makes it look you are a forward planner and the type who would take the right kit to a job. Mick hasn't rang me since the arseless leather shorts incident.
  10. Why bore it John? Heartwood was unknown quantity, surely, and it would have been safer not to IMO. And I could bust a hinge that size with my knob! Tidy job though.
  11. In a nutshell - Some of what we do is very skilled (intricrate pruning/big rigging). Some is unskilled (dragging conny all day). The arb game is massively variable, and outsiders don't always see the whole picture. From them, semi-skilled seems a fair summation really. To us - well you know how skilled you are, don't you?
  12. Few from todays job with Garth Mc Garth, dead Oak beside scout hut. Got my woggle in a twist with the bark sheeting off, gaffed out a fair bit, with crud under my gaffs making them about 1/16" long! 2 limbs over roof rigged out from adjacent Oak (big up to young Sam for setting the rigging anchor at around 50'), the rest knocked off in lumps, very dead top felled out with pull off. Tree was sound as a pound in the middle TBH, but all the timber was bone dry right through. Only stopped spiking up because of a warm feeling spreading down my right leg.
  13. Awesome pics Adam. 3rd from last is a winner. Getting out to the skinny stuff well for a cider monster John!
  14. As UKminch said, why not ring and ask? I know All Tree Surgery from Rainham in Kent insist that potential groundies wear arseless leather shorts and skintight lycra for interviews.
  15. He had to sell his boots to pay for some more of Mani's chewing damage. Amazing shots bro.
  16. Respect from your peers, Tony. I stopped giving a toss what the Plebian masses think years ago!
  17. Lets face it, the only people generally who understand how skilled we are, are other arbs. 90% of people think that to get a tree down you cut it at the bottom, and we are basically just labourers with chainsaws. In the words of Bruce Hornsby, that's just the way it is.
  18. Anyone used this? Any comments?
  19. Couldn't we all go on strike and demand £50k+ salaries? Where's my brazier....
  20. It was for my truck Rupe. I was trying to bring it down!
  21. An insurance bod once told me he was putting me in a semi-skilled category. I asked him if he would die if he made a mistake whilst doing his job. He replied no, of course not. I said well I will. He put me down as skilled. Mind you, as it has been said, its not skilled all the time! Especially my reductions).
  22. Sublime. Won't find that in IKEA!
  23. I rang Jonesie earlier and said 'Do you have a fuel cap for a top handle AMA?' 'That sounds like a fair swap', he replied. Boom, boom! Good buy at the price I reckon, Mick. And good get you out of jail if your 200 spat its dummy on a job.
