  1. We’ve just had our village display cancelled due to council intervention. Gutted, I ran the bar. We never had fire though, just a pro 17 minute display that paid for itself every year. My Dad was a Parish Councillor in Northumberland when they tried to close down Elsdon bonfire on the green. He basically said F-off townies, it’s always happened, always will. Huge fire, no guards, great display by my young farmer mates (who have been trained). How it should be.
  2. Our political system must be the laughing stock of the world. Imagine having a Minister for Transport suddenly made Minister for Health? A Minister for Employment being made Minister for Agriculture? They are public school cretins who have sucked the right cocks. Why don’t we put people in charge who know what they are on about in their respective fields?
  3. Link please.
  4. Almost certainly. Or do this one if you fancy being indoors. The duration is the same as chainsaw training.
  5. I could have become a qualified fireman in the afternoon as well.
  6. Just seen this on FB. Can’t believe I’ve wasted days of my life.
  7. Brilliant Dave! I think the problem we had was that the slimy ‘How rich can we make ourselves and our cronies’ Tories had to go, but none of us wanted Labour either.
  8. I wish we’d taken ours a bit more seriously.

  10. That’s easily done after work on a Friday Peds.
  11. Haven’t they been saying this for about 15 years though?
  12. No. No one uses spikes on them.
  13. I’ve crunched the numbers. Old truck is cheaper than both put together.
  14. Perils of running an older truck. My wife goes nuts when I get a £1k bill, but the alternative is a new one at £1k/month.
  15. I’ve dealt with VFS several times and they’ve been spot on, even when there’s been nothing in it for them. These local lads are great to deal with and all my farming mates use them. I think if a new kit was easier/better/quicker they would have steered me there. As Mick said, I want to get it earning asap. Luckily I have a couple of small jobs where handballing/shovelling will only add a few minutes, and a 3-dayer next week with loader and chipper where everything is staying on site. Hopefully done and dusted by next Friday afternoon (motor should be with me next Monday).
  16. Entirely my thinking Mick.
  17. £652 delivered for motor only. Fitting and oil on top, which will add a couple of hundred. It’s a kick in the nuts, especially if it turns out a cheapo Flowfit kit will do the same job.
  18. Thanks. I have no idea what sort of pressure the old unit produced. It tipped 2 tonnes plus without question though (on private land, obvs). Some new tippers I’ve worked with seem very weak.
  19. Looking at that vid though, I’m surprised the hydraulic boys near me didn’t suggest that, it looks straightforward enough. I’m not bothered about tipping speed really, just power.
  20. I asked about fitting a new kit and he said it would be a right ****************-on with the electrics to the cab, and would end up costing more. I won’t have much choice next time, I think I managed to buy the last old school OMFB motor they had. It’s 2000W as well, I don’t know if the cheaper kits would be man enough. I’m gutted about the price, like. £772 when we started talking.
  21. £652 just for the bloody motor! And that’s with VFS kindly doing me a deal.
  22. Update. The diagnosis is the hydraulic motor has packed up. Plenty of juice getting there, but it’s dead. Also tested with power pack, nothing. Today’s job is sourcing a new one, just left a message for VFS who supplied the original. Do you think it’s still under warranty? It’s only done 18 years work.
  23. It is definitely job dependent, but I normally use a base tie to ascend then switch to a canopy anchor. You can make that retrievable from the ground if you like. Can’t comment on the 2-rope system I’m afraid!
  24. I would plunge it into my own neck to test it.
