  2. What fantastic craftsmanship....My Favourite wood.......Beautiful
  3. Stevie me old marra!....or should i say "curtains"...great to see you,re still on here...i havent heared "SVEN" for 17 years!!!!!!....a great blast from the past..yep you are correct in your statement...it was a turning point for me also...we were a bunch of Misfits, formed and tuned into Elite Northern Tree Monkeys! you have done very well and i check out your website every now and then,,,well proud of what you,ve achieved....giving Mr Oliver a run for his money eh?.... Remember that monster Beech you Craned down at Darlington Cemetary?...it had a forest of Merupilus at the base...little Lee was fast as with them chains...big bits....done by tea time...Class work as always mate.....no doubt our paths will sross in the future...you know me...i have a built in Radar for the Screem of a chainsaw and i hunt it down....have to know what,s occuring.....its what i do.
  4. Caritool is a great way to keep your saw in check and it,s always there were you need it and not jammed in a fork or swinging about like a pendulum
  5. you rattled a few cages there mate!
  6. Great photos...what a beautiful part of Britain that is...used to go to Dockray when i was younger...eaten loads of Kendal mint cake....
  7. Mr "i love shigo" Parker...funny as...ha ha ......Houghal was the place to be back in the day!.....i LOVED it!!!!!!! Trees, trees and more trees with a load of climbing and chainsaws thrown in for good measure...it was an intensive course then but when you left you knew you were an Arborist that,s for sure....do you remember Paul "Dr Chainsaw" Turnbull?...he was a character......
  8. i,m a heavier climber...i don,t even notice weight being an issue..i just step up and up my rope and enjoy the view!...second nature after a while.
  9. Don,t forget to keep your foot on the rev!???
  10. Have you tried H/C yet Chris...what d,you think?
  11. Yep that,s a Biggie....and your winter logs sorted.
  12. Burns pine cones amongst other things! and has a USB output....(and it,s ORANGE!) a great innovation.
  13. Glad to hear your so in touch with your lanyard!....you are right though. when i reach my workstation and hear my lanyard "click",i know i,ve arrived...Get ready on the ground!
  14. There is one in about three weeks time organised by Ian Flatters up in Norfolk...looks good.
  15. I,m in the same predicament Treewalker...i live at Kew and am surrounded by beautiful big trees everywhere but unsure as to wether or not i can legally climb them..it,s ironic that as a child i never asked for permission, never did any dammage...just climbed. Now as a Professional climbing Arborist i,m scratching my head as to what to do...i,ve been practicing with my Spiderjack on a large Ash tree right off the beaten track well away from the public but i have to walk about a mile through brambles, rubbish and it,s not a very nice site..i feel like a kid in a sweet shop who isn,t allowed to eat sweets!
  16. Saw these lumps being Delivered for a Carving display at Kew Gardens last week...The crane driver following the convoy said the first trunk weighed in at 11.5 tons!
  17. Great little vid...let us know how far it will go and retract when you find out.
  18. Do it....just anchor it up on a friction/cambium saver for best results and careful you don,t burn your prussick.
  19. i was stuck in my ways for 16 years and very happy on a prussick n rope...i had a very good week at work and went shopping at Honey Brothers for somthing new and shiney saw my S.j love at first sight, ha ha!...get your hitch climber set up...cheap as woodchips...try it and post me your verdict.
  20. Mate...you need to step up a gear! You cannot beat rope on rope for no nonsense climbing with less to break provided you inspect your rope prussick krabs often...BUT....Mech tech is the way forward...i recently re pollarded a huge London Plane...not a hip thrust or prussick slide needed. For me it,s the S.j but Chris you gotta try a Hitch climber set up...once you sus it which shouldn,t take long you will never look back!...try hitch and if you like it then go Mech!
  21. I Cycle 11 miles every working day wearing chainsaw trousers and carrying a full climbing kit in my panniers....
  22. Good for you Chris!...£600 is reasonable for that course..Also seems there are a few Houghal Arbs on here...it WAS a great college. Dave Bentley taught me well and i still climb the way he taught me all those years ago...(except i use a Spiderjack now). the Horsey Girls were a Bonus!...
