I have the MSA 220 with 2 300s bats & the longer bar. When processing its used to de limb / cut flares ect off & the odd ring to get rid of ends that are too big. For that job its rare we will flatten both bats unless doing lots of rings. Doing big rings eats the bats as they heat up & then self protect. I have used it for felling & dealing with felled trees. For that work you really need 3+ bats to work non stop. I like that after two I have to take a short break to let them catch up. One thing I found was that you need to keep chain sharp & let the chain do the work keeping the feed pressure light so chain speed stays high. Dont force it into the wood.

We live in Wales, if you cant work in the rain you cant work They will want heating / aircon next There are two operators. The crane position would be really hard to protect. We are also well up on the weight limit. We need to add a cover for the engine & protect the rad (dont ask). Any spare weight we have might go towards a cleaner of some sort. A lot depends on which vehicle we use to tow it. IF I cant get my potential operators licence exemption given the green light then lots can go in the van. Or even potentially upping the weight limit on trailer by fitting active brakes. If we need to use a 4x4 pickup then we will be more limited. Failing that its get an O licence or move this on & rebuild on a 7.5T 4x4 platform vehicle.

You must have the oldstyle with wedge mount. They have been fitted with harvester bars for a long time.

Worth getting some in for the spares box. Would rather convert to pumped bar oil to be honest. Hydraulic oil cant be the best bar lube and you only get one squirt per operation so if cutting big that cant be good. With bars costing over £200 you dont want excess wear

Dare I ask the price? WP spares seem to have gone up massively.

From some of the post on Arbtalk, to wet, too dry, too big, too small, wrong day, did not stack, look funny, wife / hubby dont like, ect ect. Now they have an official way to complain. Or your competitors can dob you in knowing you will get a charge / fine no matter the result.

Try reading the terms. For enforcement they test the logs after delivery. Customer complains, you get charged, they test his logs, if crap you get fined/ charged.

Thats not my point. Randomly testing a few places & averaging the numbers might not mean the totality of the log averages under 20%. If 50% of the log is a 0% & 50% at 40% then the totality is 20%. But the only way to know that is to test by the fully drying in an oven method or mincing the log, mixing well & then testing a smaller sample by oven drying. Quicker faster & cheaper test. The worse bit is that the testing will happen on a customers log from their store not at your point of sale. As we all know they leave them on the drive for 3 days in the rain & then put them in the dark dank musty coal shed.

To be just the law has to be applied fairly. Is there any evidence that a log with 0% for 50% of its volume and 40% for the other half burns the same as one that is an even 20% all through? Bit like putting two good logs on with one bad one.

How else can it be fair? I am not saying all the log needs to be under the limit on spot tests. I am saying that the actual average is under not just a few select tested spots. Think about how nutrition is tested Blend total meal,sample and test.

I think woodsure are fudging the specs/testing. If you have a limit then the totality of the log needs to be under that limit. So the log needs mincing, mixed, sampled & tested. To be truly scientific / fair.

Changes to spec. I did plan on altering the 4 way into a 12 way by adding the bit in yellow. But after using it I have modified the 6 way into an 8 way & the jury is out on the 4 way mod. For some reason 6 ways have a bigger middle section that produces logs that are too big when the other 4 bits are ok. A quick test & it seems ok but time will tell. I messed up on the fuse sizing for the fuel pump so needed to change the 5 amp for a 10 amp. Cable is good for 16 amps so plenty of spare. 5 amp lasted a good few hours before blowing. Added a handle to the adjuster wheel for the conveyor speed to make it easier to quickly change speed. Adjusted the splitting chamber cover cutoff control because when loading the deck the movement was triggering it. I would like to add a hydraulic ram to the conveyor slew rather than the very course manual settings it currently has. Fuel consumption was about half the max I wanted. All in all very pleased with how it came out & works.

Before we did this job we finished off half a load of mixed hardwood for ourselves. To be honest not much difference in performance.
