  1. This is pretty horrific, kind of wish I'd never seen it. Apologies! There's some weird, horrible people around. Global network of sadistic monkey torture exposed by BBC WWW.BBC.CO.UK A year-long investigation uncovers a sadistic abuse network stretching from Indonesia to the US.

    Jokes???

She's good, Philomena Cunk, sharp and very funny. Charlie Brooker again.
  3. I bet one of the cronies made a killing out of that load of crap.
  4. Merrino is the dogs bollocks for keeping cool, and warm, without too much stinking. I can't remember the stats but wool absorbs by far the most amount of water of any fibre, hence why it stays feeling comfortable for longer. I'd second the Farmers shirts option. These are good;; Country Classics Mens Clothing WWW.WARWICKSHIRECLOTHING.COM Country Classics is a UK-based outdoor clothing brand that offers a wide range of stylish and practical clothing for men... An even cheaper and harder wearing option for good old fashioned cotton is Army Surplus stuff. Dirt cheap and very robust. More suited to winter work I guess but there's always lighter weight and short sleeve tops as well. I don't see the point in wasteing big money on gear that's going to get trashed sooner rather than later.

  6. Don't think he was suggesting wearing a Mexican Peasant outfit for work!
  7. Linen is the coolest natural fabric, good for hot humid conditions. Probably better than a lot of man-made stuff too. Dont know how hard wearing it is though.

My mate has a date with a lady who identifies as a wheelie bin.... but can't remember if he's taking her out Tuesday or Wednesday

    Jokes???

Not a joke but but quite good nonetheless
  10. It's reminiscent of a Beaver's work to me.
  11. Someone has fcked up here Man arrested over south London 'tree massacre' WWW.BBC.CO.UK Local conservationists say there was a confrontation with a man who was defying a protection order. Some overly emotive language as often the case.
  12. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think Box's days might be numbered. There's been a sharp rise in Box blight as well as this moth/caterpillar in recent years. Research has been started into viable alternatives, and I think a few have been identified so far.
  13. Free money? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Not for me mate, no furlough, no grants, no bounce back loans even, nothing. I'm just paying for other people's free money now. A few at the top, supposedly in charge at the time, took a hell of a lot of free money in a few short months.🤷‍♂️
  14. Here's a few ideas;- Allow the right to peaceful protest Tax the fossil fuel barons properly Insulate homes Free school meals Nationalise water Build decent quality new housing, not car reliant rabbit hutches with no green space There's incompetence and then there's thieving incompetence. Whatever colour government we get next, they'll be an improvement on what we've had for the last few years. They've bankrupted us and trashed our global reputation. We'll probably never regain our stature. A bit of honesty and integrity will be very refreshing for a start.
  15. Jam. Sometimes just Medlar, sometimes blended with Quince Japonica quinces. It has a lovely flavour, like spiced cooked apple or something and a pleasing silky texture. Keeps me stocked with jam for the whole year though I normall have to scrump some fruit, hopefully not this year. Never thought of ice cream. I'll mention it to the Mrs, she does cakes and desserts, jams and preserving is my preserve.
  16. With difficulty I guess. You could probably blast the tree with pesticide if you had a suitable sprayer, but I'd be inclined to leave it and let nature take it's course. The numbers will decrease in time, either through predation, lack of food or change of weather.
  17. We're doomed. Time for a new opposition as well as a new government. Seems like only the Greens and Oranges have the right idea.

    Settled

You can't ignore economics like that obviously. Your case is an exception to the majority of holiday lets I guess, in that it's your only property and by choosing not to live in it, or any other house you're kind of automatically not making the housing shortage any worse. (Can't really explain that very well but it makes sense in my head I think). The real issue is 2nd, 3rd, 4th or nth home owners.

Same scenario in much of Cornwall, and pretty much anywhere else in the UK that's nice. I don't think Airbnb is purely responsible though. It's a much bigger issue of second home ownership and domestic tourism. Not an easy one to resolve but something definitely needs to be done to control it at least. I agree, renting to a local is the ideal in terms of social responsibility. Another option is to penalise landlords for having houses sat empty for too much of the year, as they're doing in Wales now I believe.
  20. The peas are evidently enjoying this weather anyway, they're just coming into production. The flowers are almost as nice as Sweet Peas. Early signs are it's going to be a bumper crop of Medlars this year.
  21. I can't really see from the photo but it sounds like you're describing a black fly infestation. Par for the course in this kind of weather unfortunately, they like hot dry conditions. They won't do much harm to the plant in the long term but they will be a recurrent problem, you can't just treat them once and for all. Some useful info. here;- https://www.rhs.org.uk/biodiversity/blackfly
  22. Yep, my money is still on pigeons. Though we get sparrows from time to time, I had no idea they'd eat green stuff. Rats or voles is also another interesting suggestion, a bit left field as well. We have had the former in the garden before, but I don't see why they be looking to eat greens either. Unless they're just teeth sharpening; like mice and electric cables. Other mammals we get are foxes and badgers, occasionally, and squirrels, all the bloody time. But again I can't see any of them having a taste for sweetcorn stems. I've noticed some big arsed snails have been felling big Hosta leaves recently, by munching straight through the stems. Whatever the culprit, the net should stop most of the sbove. If we get more damage I'll deploy some copper. That'll stop slugs at least.
