  1. It's not just the brain, it damages lots of different organs, and causes all sorts of cancers. Aspartame makes a star appearances in this, about 6 minutes in;- BBC iPlayer - Panorama - Ultra-Processed Food: A Recipe for Ill Health? WWW.BBC.CO.UK Investigating a link between chemicals in ultra-processed foods and cancer and diabetes.
  2. Grey Squirrels are bad news, whichever way you look at it. Only good for one thing I reckon - eating. 🍴🍗
  3. I don't think anyone quite knows the extent of the damage yet, needless to say it'll be huge though. Since they have permeated the whole world now, it's impossible to avoid microplastics. At least with crappy "food" you can choose whether or not to eat it.
  4. Aspartame is just the tip of the iceberg; look what's starting to emerge about Utra-Processed Food. If it ain't natural don't put it in ya gob!
  5. They're just little Bstrds! Though I think a lot of the senseless chewing is down to teeth sharpening.
  6. Go on then, since you've twisted my arm; I'll indulge you. So what don't you understand this time? I'm sure you're very familiar with what a Narcissist is at least.

I know. The comment was tongue in cheek somewhat. 😜

You could might be able to buy the missing goods cheaper the second time around! ...... at the insolvency auctions, if you can find them.
  9. Exactly. Almost anything is worth a shot at the moment. I can't see the massive assemblies of 6000 people minimum happening in person but that could happen easily enough online/remotely, (security or fraud issues aside obvs).
  10. We'd do well to follow the example set by the Ancient Greeks, of how to keep narcissists like Boris Johnson and Donald Trump out of positions of power. How the ancient Greeks kept ruthless narcissists from capturing their democracy – and what modern politics could learn from them THECONVERSATION.COM Those who seek power for the sake of power are less attracted to high office when more people get a say.
  11. Just catching up on it now. He's a legend for sure, with good reason. Obviously lacking the energy of his earlier years and a bit overblown with being a live performance, but still, pretty good for a 76 year old .
  12. We were told by my parents and grandparents to only buy something if we could afford it, and preferably only things that were needed, not just wanted. Very sound advice, that I still abide by now. Similar for my Mrs. The only debt we have is a mortgage, and it's a fairly affordable one at that, we didn't get stupid with the income multiple. Wouldn't dream of borrowing for anything else; no loans for exotic holidays, no store cards, no fancy cars paid for with HP, non of that sillyness. I'm sure most people had the same message about financial prudence when they were growing up, so I don't know how it's all gone so wrong.
  13. Yep. The boat that went down recently in Greece a couple of weeks back - still ~500 people missing including 100s children in the hold. That's a real tragedy but it's received a fraction of the attention. (Un)funny old world indeed.
  14. I think we need a yawn reaction emoji.
  15. Good Brand that - Knipex. Quality German engineering, manufactured in Germany. Proper engineering, not made in China. I've not got those particular ones, but do have a few other pliers and cutters, they're excellent.
  16. Rant? That's not a rant! Far too much punctuation and reasoned thought gone into it. There's plenty of proper rants on here, in other threads. All good points, well made. So to go back to a previous point; Growing and then preparing and cooking AND preserving your own food ought to be on the curriculum. That sounds very like old fashioned Home Economics in fact. Not sure why that was dropped from the curriculum. It's not just a question of health, but also money. You could potentially save a fair bit of money by not buying fruit and veg all the time, especially with the exorbitant prices today. As long as you can cope with the dirt! There is positivity as you say. There's been a resurgence of interest in growing your own recently. Due in part to COVID lockdowns and all that upheaval. It's also a "trendy" thing to do at the moment I think, no bad thing I guess.
  17. A good mate of mine used to live in a house with a lovely productive apple tree in the garden. Him and his Mrs, intelligent people, both doctors, were amazed when I suggested that they could eat the apples! I was amazed by their reaction, and then dismayed when I went round another time to see that the tree had been cut down. It was a good sized tree, and productive, so they could have had months worth of apples, if stored properly. Food alienation indeed. What a sad state of affairs, what a world.
  18. Growing and then preparing and cooking your own food ought to be on the curriculum imo. Including when and when not to wash things! There's plenty around who wouldn't know what to do with a lot of whole freshly harvested veggies.
  19. Not me - a tank steered with a games console controller and bolted closed from outside. No way.
