  1. 100k of arb kit you say? reminds me of a mythical story Once upon a time, many years ago, there were two conifers…… 100ft tall he said……….
  2. different country so irrelevant. Probably the equivalent of 250-300. A few years ago now though the two good subbys I had I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid if they upped their rate 20% over night. might not have been as many 1pm finishes though! the bearably average guys wouldn’t have gotten any more work had they asked for even 1% though. tree works not rocket science, you don’t need to be clever or have a degree, it’s simple, grubby, grunty manual labour. there’s no such thing as market rate, just the balance point of a climbers productivity/money. it might just be that your productivity is only worth £200 a day. If you’re able to get shit done more efficiently/quicker there’s no reason the employing company can’t get through more work that day and therefore pay more. Just like bringing a machine to site, you don’t necessarily charge more, but you get the job done quicker so can do another job that day, upping the daily turnover.
  3. if there’s no shortage of people wanting you, up your rates! people want you because you’re either cheap and good, or cheap and bearable/average. True, if you’re the latter and up your rates you’ll be unemployed if you’re good, you’ll still be needed
  4. Seen quite a few, normally with a Volvo BM (Swedish brand in Sweden I guess) why? Better maneuverability than a tractor and trailer would be my guess
  5. Waste of time, waste of a container and waste of logs but it looks pretty!
  6. Well I best be the odd one out and say at least some of it looks like oak, first pic to the left, colors and how the fibers have split but as the others, I’d be extremely happy to be paid £300 for that!
  7. are “van-lifers” part of society though?! for some kids the school dinner is the only decent meal they’ll get, there’s much more to school than education. Alex, Eggs, I’m being a bit presumptuous, but neither of you have kids? “over here” spend about £100 a year in dentists, prescriptions, chiropractors, doctors etc and the rest is free. (school dinners is obviously free too 😉)
  8. Just twist their necks Should be done by the 250th revolution
  9. Years back working in Cambridge for a scientist who was on one or many spectrums- “any chance of a cuppa tea?” ”oh, er, yes, I’ve only got red tea, is that ok?” (Diddnt know wtf red tea was) “yeah sure” “I’ve only got goats milk, That ok?” (again never had goats milk) ”yeah ok, you got any sugar” ”yes! Brown sugar….” I took a sip, and tried to hide my disgust my colleague took a sip spits It out “THATS FCUKING DISGUSTING, WHAT THE FCUK IS THIS SIHT!” (followed by vomiting gestures)! in front of the customer
  10. Fantastic! Black Friday black week even seen black November! Thanks America
  11. quite ok for a retard to make mistakes 😉 husqvarna backhandle, can’t remember the model maybe my sharpening is just so awesome it’s no effort for the saw?!
  12. Good for you. luckily for me then all petrol saws I’ve had the oil outlasts the fuel tank
  13. From one retard to another, the battery outlasts the oil
  14. A battery saw would probably be great for hedgelaying, I’ve an older husky battery saw in the van, used for pretty much everything but tree work though 😂 it’s very “convenient” to use. Just need to remember to top up the oil.
  15. The thing is gender doesn’t matter. It’s that catch 22 of no experience at this stage. just need luck and persistence, small things help like heed the advice to ring rather than email -harder to ignore/say no! (but yeah, I’ll agree with doobin and excels1or, it is embarrassing how these threads go)
  16. Impressively, I reckon your meme bank is bigger than my vvank bank!
  17. Go for it! as long as you’ve got a unique selling point or specialist niche be it being a frigging awesome climber, unique equipment or something else that only time or a ton of money and risk buys to set you apart from the million and one other established, experienced tree outfits in your county you’ll do fine otherwise I’ll echo what the rest have said, and be happy scrabbling around fighting to be the lowest of 10 quotes for a mornings hedge cutting
  18. Tbh I diddnt realize vanlife included caravans, I thought it was more people converting regular panel vans to campers, maybe ready made ones like a transporter California at a push or is “vanlifer” used as “traveler” is generally associated with pikeys? not interested in buying your own plot of land as a base?
  19. That’s not living, that’s existing imo fair play if you like it though
  20. Tit 5th post, went to the beach to play fetch playing fetch on a hill was one of few ways to knacker my kelpie out. give it some chickens (or children!) to round up got any neighbors?
  21. just get an automatic? a mates got the maxus electric van, loves it
  22. Whichever you get don’t scrimp on attachments, get a few straight away
  23. Yep, get something for sure! why’d you think a digger would be better?
