  1. Its all looking good so far!! BYO is usually best anyway.
  2. What kind of tree? And what did they saw it with? If done with a builders wood saw then the cut will be narrow and it could graft itself back together, but it depends on the risk of the tree falling wether its worth trying to save. If it was cut with a chainsaw then fell it for sure. If its small enough you could brace it with posts and ratchets straps and give it a year and see? But if its not a great tree then probably not worth the bother/risk.
  3. Mine pisses out fuel, I just empty it before putting it away, never considered trying to find out why!! Its old and leaks, thats just how things are.
  4. You could try lying the pole down on the ground? I'd give it a go then!
  5. Thats good and very honorable, and what I would do and waht I would expect from those workign for me. BUT, this is one of the things that makes a sub contractor a real subcontractor. It means after you have finished your "contracted" job you COULD go and do another next door without refering them back to your main contractor/boss/person that hired you in. Not saying we should all start doing this, if we did we would run out of "subbie" work pretty quick, but just wanted to mention that this is exactly what the IR and insurance comapnies consider a "sub contractor" to be able and free to do, and not being free and able to do this means that the "subbie" is not a true sub contractor. The rules are there to be bent!
  6. Have you got a link for the converter? First one I found leave a "demo only" print on the film. Good video though BTW! I cant watch it in HD on my old computer and I am filming in SD for a while until I up grade.
  7. What video edtitor do you use? I'm still having trouble, my drift HD saves the files as .MOV which are not recognised by movie maker so I have to learn a new editing prog.
  8. Oh, ok. Yes it could be, mine is alsation/collie and looked just like that as a pup but yest it does look more alsation.
  9. Thats that collie addicted for life then! Mine is still obsessed with fetching things now he's 13.
  10. Did you write out a quote? And if so who to? There are no templates for this sort of thing, you need to read the situation and contact those involved and spell it out to them in writing or e mail and get written acceptance (or e mail) especially from whoever is paying and from whoever owns the tree.

    play bark

I've seen various types, often its softwood bark only or sawmill peelings and I have seen plywood/pallets shredded for pay areas and BS approved for that purpose. But never officially woodchips.
  12. Oh yeah!! Sorry, my dumbness!!
  13. Schawybish then! Like I said if the bottom loop feeds the lower leg its a swabish.
  14. It depneds where that left hand side loop (or bar goes) if the bottom of it loops round the bottom leg then its a schwabish, but I think Peter is right! It loops back up the the top of the knot, so its a Klemheist. The give away is the number of loops round the rope. Their are five so its a klemhiest. Schwabish would only have four. Thinking about it, schwabish could have five, or any number, if tied open like this one is, so it goes beack to depending on where the bottom of that loop goes? I think Peter is right though.

You cant compare the two though, its a different saw. Its a top handle for the domestic market (thats why its not on sale here, domestics aint allowed top handled saws) so its stihl 230 instead of a 260, totally different. Not saying its not worth getting though, for pruning lots of people rate them and that price sounds about right.
  16. I usually buy size 9. I could fit in an 8, but 9 fits most of the guys I work with so I buy in packs and every one can have some as and when needed.
  17. Ok, maybe I'm not overly worried as such, just want to keep things in perspective.
  18. I think its worrying that people are referign to the Hitch climber as a climbing method. Its just a pulley. The rapide is for rigging or speedlines etc. and the other is for a hitch tender. Its the hitch that makes the system, and a VT can be tied using almost any pulley currently available. The next step from a prussik is possible a blakes, or a pulley assisted prussik/blakes, then maybe a distel/michogan/helical/VT. MAybe after trying all of those then a hitch climber could be used to give further aplications to which ever system is now prefered. You dont climb on a hitch climber, you climb on a friction hitch and some use a pulley to tend them and one of the pulleys available is called a hitch climber.
  19. Sounds like a difficult situation, good luck with it. Freelance should mean that you call the shots, you decide who to work for each week, how much to charge etc. Of course you cant charge the earth, you have to be competitive, but working for one person is not freelance.
  20. Although I think its the small one that fits in that slot the best, but not tried the large one.
  21. That bit of leather is designed to take a petzl caritool.
  22. Do they all stop and point if a plane goes overhead?
  23. Is he employed by them or "freelance" as well? Sounds like your whole family is being screwed. Freelance means you choose who to work for out of your list of companies that want you. That might mean doing days for those that book you well enough in advance, or those who pay the most, its up to you which of those things is more important (pay or security) if you have neither of those things then you are not freelance.
