  1. So you have just clipped into the bit thats usually the spare end? Instead of the other leg? Thats good, how does it self tend though? Does it just drag itself up the rope I guess?
  2. We put the quad onto the truck by first driving it onto a single axle iffor trailer with tailramp, then turning the trailer round, putting the jockey wheel end as low as possible and puttign the tailboard on the back of the truck, the whole trailer is now a loading ramp, then drive the quad up the tailramp onto the truck. Of course you have to take the trailer with you to take it off the other end so only works if we are taking the trailer not the chipper. Why not just put it on the trailer I hear you ask? We only do this when we need to take the stump grinder as well so that goes on the trailer.
  3. Trees? Oh, yes them, sorry!
  4. Have you got any work done today? I've been out on an emergency limb removal, hours work for a days pay! I dont think its a boorman phase, I'm not going to start kissing my mates on TV if thats what you mean! Have you seen him in the film The Emerald Forest? Before he got fat! Just the dog to consult with here, so once he's gone I can hit the road anytime, that was why the biking thing didn't really work for me before, I had a hyper active dog that needed long walks every day, but he's not so hyper these days but will be around for a while yet, just bracing myslef for the inevitable and deciding what to do. If someone offered me a puppy then the bike idea might not happen, but at least I've got my test done so its an option. I dont think I'll ever be a full on biker, but long road trips on a bike are very appealing. I would like to ride to greece one year instead of flying, that would be a good trip!
  5. Yes, I figured he worked out the options and is left with the breakaway lanyard idea hence his request.
  6. Yeah, and if you reverse a truck up close to a chipper you can chip straight into it!! Bet you never thought of that eh!
  7. Thats what I'm assuming, its the usual reason. Last really dodgy one I did I just didn't lanyard in, way too scary to attach yourself to somehting that shouldn't really be there, but if you have to then breakawy is required. How about just using some weak material as a joiner, some string maybe, just enough to position you where you want but not very strong. A loop of it on you D ring and clip into that?
  8. Have you seen graham Mcmahons video of similar situation? Its doesn't show how he set it up but I think it was just a slip knot, so your lanyard is attached using a slip knot, you pull the tail end and it comes away.
  9. I would probably keep up the old man image though, no crotch rocket for me, it would all be about distance not speed, so probably a BMW
  10. I think the derail is complete!! My dog is 13 and a bit so wont be here for long, and will probably trigger the crisis when he goes!! A tourer of some type would do me, but I might even not get anything and build a camper van instead, who knows.
  11. Thanks, thats why I sold it! It was ok as my first bike, and I wasn't so old then but I soon realised it was not for me, but not sure what my ideal bike would be. I prefer long journeys rather than sunday outings but I take my dog everywhere so its estate cars for now! Maybe one day, depending on the type of crisis! But wouldn't be seen dead on a harley.
  12. Very nice! I only have one picture of my old bike, it was a bit before I owned a digital camera! It was my first and only bike so a very sensible 600. Sold it when I bought an arb truck, I have a car aswell so three was too many insurance policies!! Might get another one day if I have a mid life crisis which should be any day now!

    Hand Saws

I've had two sugoi, and I'm now fed up with the top 2-3 inches of the scabbard breaking off! Not going to bother with them anymore, Zubat 330 instead from now one. The sugoi can stay in the truck for chipper/general use but not for climbing.

    Secateurs

you can drill through the Alu handle and tie a loop of cord through the hole and clip them to your harness.
  15. Rupe

    Secateurs

Exactly, change the handles and your secs are not quite as old as you thought! You have changed every major component so they are new secateurs and have not lasted as many years as you think, only the non moving large halndle parts have stood the test of time. No matter though, I lose the flipping things quicker than you wear them out!
  16. Thinking about it, what your saying is "offering it back" Thats fine and correct. I was argueign against throwing it back over the fence, which is a a different thing. So your right. I don't think anyone offered the debris from their own tree would ever accept it, or want it, so its a moot point (is that supposed to be "mute"?) Ultimatly neighbours should all talk to each other more. Hows the bike? what have you got these days?

    Secateurs

Yes, I had to look them up I had never heard of them before.

    Secateurs

Sounds like my favorite rake, had it fifteen years.....you know the rest!

These ? Why are they better?
  20. I was after your opinion really, facts are too boring. IMO its not worth considering, just clear up the mess and thats that. Its not me that would be twig napping, I would just be handling the stolen goods! Never really worried about being a naughty boy! I have moral principals that are mostly legal but not always. I am 100% certain you have broken the speed limit on your bike, yet I would not dream of quoting the law to you, rules are there to be broken and laws are there to be bent.
  21. Rupe

    Secateurs

There are no pros and cons. Felco.
  22. Yes I know "technically", and I know the principal, but its bobbins! No one wants the debris back, its just an old law that has no merrits, and we should not take it so literally IMO. No one is ever going to call the police because they didn't get their twigs back and the police would not respond to it anyway.
  23. Janey, does offerign back the waste really refer to twigs etc? I thought it was just an old law referring to firewood and/or fruit. and as such is a nonsense when referring to general waste. All all cases I can think of where a neighbour has "hacked" a tree, returnign the debris would just be an additional insult!
  24. But the value or depreciation in value of the tree due to this work must surely be zero? You cant put a ££ sign on everything, a chat would have been better but not £5 better or £5K better, just better.
