  1. On a speed restricted straight road its ok. You still need full chapter 8 signage in place. Did they have that? Its called the give and take system, as long as the contractors vehicles dont take up a greater meterage of road the the chapter 8 book allows (I dont have it to hand) for the speed of road then its ok. And as for the climber being above the traffic, thats ok too as long as hes not cutting! The he can cut during breaks in the traffic, and his groundcrew need to be able to stop the traffic in the event of him being half way through cutting, and they can only stop the traffic if they are wearign full sleeve Hi viz again this is only ok on speed restricted roads) Stop go boards would be better but if you are stopping traffic both ways and then allowing them to continue under the give and take system then stop/go isn't needed, more like stop/stop! If the traffic is constant and you cant get any work done, or if the give and take method is simply not workign then traffic lights might be better. Here in Cheltenham we have many trees that span both carriageways, and I have climbed many in this way. It can be stressful but good ground crews are vital. Even when rigging back into a secure work zone we still only do this in gaps in traffic or when the traffic is stopped. If a driver saw a swinging limb overhead and panicked and crashed then we might fail to get the job done, and thats never going to happen! But i can sit over the traffic as long as my rope is not hanging straight down!
  2. My copy of "Old Boy" has still not arrived!!
  3. Spectators are free to wander about as they please, camping I would guess is free but not for me to say.
  4. Zero. If you need to hire some space at the farm then try and get a fixed price for a year, and as long as you can tip rubbish and crap logs etc then its worth it. Woodchip itself is too easy to get rid of, shouln't be having to pay anyone for tipping it, but it does take time to build up a list of places that want it, so in the meantime I would say no more than ten quid a load? Really if the farmer uses it for anything then he should be paying you.
  5. We only use orange. Seperates us from tarmacers and council workers.
  6. Thats in my 80's collection! Ferris Bueller probabaly my favorite of the era though.
  7. Ah I see, sorry I was too slow to help!
  8. As long as your not lanyarded in! And as you should be lanyarded when using a saw, any chainsaw related injuries have a high likely hood that the lanyard will be attached. Relying on this method is not a good idea. Additionaly, you could also lower the injuried climber into a fork and make further rescuing harder.
  9. Cool. Do you know the original one that I'm on about? It must be quite old now?
  10. Hi Angus, would have a chance to put that folding Euc video up sometime? Or is it on youtube somewhere?
  11. No, and no post at all today!! Amazon is pretty slow though, it will arrive one day this week I guess. Its possible its coming from Jersey, not sure.
  12. Cool, I nearly got a Denon, but my main interest has always been cinema not music so I tended to go for Yamaha (not that denon are bad for cinema) cos I sort of thought they were the best at it. The last one I had was not so good and blew up, so now I have Onkyo which is great.
  13. There is a bit in Pans labyrinth when the old faun is talking about how old he is, he says he's as old as the wind in the trees (or something like that) and you can clearly here him say bosky ( he talks in an ancient form of spanish) and bosky is an ancient word for a wooded area, and also slang for slightly drunk! Hence the Bosky range of arborists clothing that some of ou may know of!
  14. Two, or even 3 or 4 anchor points would have been a better suggestion. I have a willow re-pollard to do tomorrow and I need the height of the regrowth for my TIP in order to get out to the sides safely/effciciently, so planning on setting up triple anchor point for my one rope rather then using a two rope system. But I'm the boss, I can do it how I feel fit if I have taken into consideration work at height regs etc. but if your boss says two ropes then its two ropes, simple as that.
  15. I like the spririt of it! And if there are some darwin awards handed out then tough luck for them! I fixed (not fitted) my boiler myself and re wired my house, none of its rocket science if you are logically minded you can do anything.
  16. I guy down the road from my mums house has spent the last four weekend re pollarding a good size weeping willow out side his house. Would have been a friday finish job for most of us here but he obviously wanted to do it himself, and he has now done it. All with a scaffold tower, ladders and a b&q chainsaw. Fair play to him, must have been a good challenge. My mum said she saw him one day with double disco legs whilst up his ladder!!
  17. Wow, that a big difference!! WHo asked for help with the method statement? The winning contractor or the client? I wonder, if there were an accident, if the client could be held responsible for hiring the cheapest company? Of course it would not hold in domestic work but for site clearance, there should be a quantity surveyor type person with some idea of what to expect from an arb company, and wilffully dismissing two similar quotes (50 & 45) in favour of a 13K one could be seen as negligence, with or without proper method statements in place.
  18. One of the problems with quoting for work is that if four or five quotes are received it is quite possible that one of the companies has screwed up and under priced it by mistake. Of course they only realise this when half way through the job, but its possible that a a significant percentage of arb work is done at a mistakenly low price. Add to that the newer companies that are less experienced, and so rather then "undercutting" they are just simply making mistakes, and pricing cheap through no real fault of their own. I mess up prices now and then too though, I'm sure everybody here has done jobs that they have underpriced, well that is what I mean, too many jobs go to the person who has underpriced by mistake, including all of us who have done it.
  19. "Simply holding a NPTC CS38 ticket is deemed adequate" Is or is not deemed adequate??
  20. It wasn't expensive, I bought the projector and screen second hand for a bargain, and the rest is accumaulated over years. I certainly couldn't afford to go out and buy that set up new in one go.
  21. No, that was the dogs training video! Hes too old now for chasing sheep so he just watches the films and remembers the good old days!
