  1. I have four pairs of saturn blades for my TW150 used on rotation, they are fine. I have had 2 pairs previously that were fine. The build quality is excellent, just dont tell your chipper company!!
  2. Are you coming out to play on friday?
  3. Not yet. Need to do refreshers of CS units apparantly too!!!!
  4. Yes I'm sure there can be and so I guess in those situations an external examiner could be better. But generally you can do your own, its better to do your own than not have it at all.
  5. Yes, all you need is a bit to fit in a drill and into the GRCS where the handle normal goes. I had one made and its works ok but you would the mother of all cordless drills to run it properly, the big stihl petrol drill would be best but then its sort of gets a bit a silly at that point. There wont ever need to be a stein/grcs conversation. The two are not in the same leage at all, and the stein ones were never meant to be in competition with the grcs, they simply fill a huge void between portawrap and hobbs block, and fill it very well they do to. I would still like to get one!
  6. I think its only advised that company owners dont check the gear of the employees themselves, they should get an independant person in or get one of the employees to trained up to do it. This removes any confilcts of interest where a tight boss doesn't want to pay for new gear. But individuals can do there own gear. I did the course years ago and have never spent any money on loler inspections. well worth it.
  7. I would have to agree with that! And add my £400 quad bike to the list!!
  8. GRCS would probably be the safest/easiest one man can lift 500kgs easily and the switch over to lowering again is easy and smooth.
  9. Oh, didn't know that! Not seen one in ages.
  10. When you say strop you mean pole strop? I use my "strop" on the lower rings all the time as it give me a sit position in the same way as a main line. Then use the upper rings when working a pole/spar on spikes like you would any other harness. I think I know what you meant though, but its still a strop/lanyard if its on the lower rings. The treemotion is the only harness to allow work positioning in this way, and it sets it apart from everything else.
  11. In the days that I did cable bracing (with drill though bolts etc) there were no digital cameras thank god!! Since 2003 when I bought my first digi cam I have installed one COBRA brace and thats all, and thats enough too! If it needs bracign for public safety then fell it, if its just in a garden with no targets then I guess its ok but I would rather leave it to nature to decide. The cobra brace I did was for a cedar which struggles with snow build up, seems to have worked out ok so far.
  12. Yeah, its just an extra pair of hands I need really. Would suit someone wanting to find out about tree work. Thanks to all the responses from poeple with tickets/saws/trucks/experience etc. but I have all of that already and freelance climbers when I need them. Its just a helper I need. Freelancers are good and they meet you on site usually and do their thing which is great but I need someone to help me get to site in the first place and remember to fill the chipper with diesel, and bring the pole saw and general boring stuff that I can't do cos my head is full of fluff and sawdust!! I think basically I want to be the freelance climber for my own company so I am looking to find someone to help faciltate that.
  13. The cinch is good, but expensive if your starting out. Same with positioner really. The cinch works well on a single line, but again as a beginner you might not be using a single line much.
  14. Pics of me actually using a lanyard? That might be tricky. I think for first climbing kit, the cinch is bit OTT really. A side prussik or distel is perfectly good. Get climbing not spending, good thing I'm not a retailer.
  15. I'll try again. I am looking for someone to help out with general tree work. Either someone with tickets for chainsaw use AND driving license including towing AND aged over 25 who can be left to work independantly from me if necessary. OR I would be happy with someone with no tickets/experience but who wants to learn tree work, who can assist me in day to day stuff. This person would not necessarily need to be able to drive my vehicles.
  16. Yes, thats waht I found too! But the ISA site states premier Inn is adjacent to the site. Camping might not be so great, its still April!!! Not that I'm soft, I'll camp in january no worries but you never know what the weather might throw up, and a good nights sleep at my age is important. Do you know the site Stu? As long as there is plnety of trees for a treeboat then I'd be happy camping, not so happy on the floor though.
  17. Craig, where is the premier inn located "adjacent to the site" I cant find it. Cheers.
  18. No, a distel is not good on a single line either, it will work but its not great. A "Cinch" is the best thing on a single line, and actually my favorite as a lanyard adjuster ful stop. Much prefer it over the positioner. I have about 5-6m lanyard but half of it is daisy chained and clipped up on the harnes so never in the way.
  19. Treeworker got exclusive black ones a while ago. I got mine in black with matching black petzl ok karabiners. Its important to colour co-ordinate with your harness for that ninja look! Seriously though, you need to mark your kit for loler, so any hitch climbers for rigging should be marked (insulting tape or engraving, whatever) and also personal kit should be identifyable in the same way, so you could all have the same colour but identify it with the loler markings, simples.
  20. I dont think he meant a single line. He said "second line" I took that to mean that his strop is long enough to be used as second, doubled line. Your right, a positioner is not good on a single line, but I dont think that is what we are talking about here.
  21. Yes, but they dont release under tension very well, so your distel will actualy be better.
  22. 1 to ask why the light bulb needed changing in the first place!
  23. Still need someone. Have realised that getting a driver might be difficult!!! Just need someone who can chip stuff up for now, chainsaw tickets would be good but not essential just yet. Starting next monday would be ideal!!!!!! I actually think this could be a good start for the right person so if anybody is thinking of gettign into Arb, and wants to come and drag brash for a week then please get in touch and we will see how it goes. Ultimatly I do need a driver though so will always be looking for someone to fill that role.
