  2. I think the wife must have said get pros in and the husband said no lets save a few quid, thats why he's defensive but she's not happy at all!!
  3. And the the aftermath....... Hilarious!!! Only a bit of broken glass........ouch...... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4tZCIXfYG8&feature=related]YouTube - Aftermath of Tree Hitting House[/ame]

    My LDV!!

Its ok actually, but we do try and avoid loading it right up and hills. Going out of town in the morning is uphill when its empty, and we nearly always empty somewhere before coming back anyway so I do very little transporting wood chip. I have had some good loads of logs on though!
  6. Small files can be added as an attachment, like a picture, then each person downloads it individually to watch it.

    My LDV!!

That looks very much like waht I envisioned when I saw the ad for that truck on tinternet!! Very good job Andy, nice one Liam. welcome to the Long Delay Vehicle club. Add about 10% extra time for every journey, you'll be fine!!
  8. Thats more of a belay device really, but can be used as a descender but is unprotected. Simpler would be a large figure 8. A winged one if you prefer. Again its not backed up in normal use but can be, and it is more suitable for descending.
  9. In fact you shouldn't be driving a vehicle with a tow bar and NO trailer with a post 97 licence as you have the ability to hitch up a greater than 750kg trailer and therefore would be illegal. Interstlingly, in greece its illegal to have a tow hitch and NO trailer. So all tow hitches are removable. Then when you are towing a trialer it has to licensed and registered as "belonging" to that vehicle. But this is in a country where no one has a license or insurance oustide of the mainland anyway, and no one gives a stuff and they don't have a VOSA or anything!! My sister drives a smart car, never had a single lesson!!
  10. I'm not havign a tantrum, just needed saying thats all! I know you said it yourself, its your mistake, but everyone else going "oh dear" "shame that happend" "hope your ok" "yes ladders can be dangerous" etc etc... what they are all thinking is "idiot". Your stupidity is equally matched with your bravery for posting though! It would have been far funnier if every reply was just a different word for idiot!! There are so many threads on here about working off ladders, and how its an accident waiting to happen, then when it does everyone gets all soft! There was a youtube clip of a guy doing the same thing and everyone had a right laugh at that one. I'm sorry you cut yourself, but the responses on here are just soft in the head!
  11. Is no one going to say it?? What an idiot!! If anyone didn't know that ladders and chainsaws were dangerous then they must have been living on another planet, and certainly don't deserve to get paid for tree work. Suck it up man, and if you want sympathy go to mummy. "proper arb now" my arse! So 99% of folk on here are not proper arbs yet? Yes, we must all try harder!
  12. Ford ??
  13. A quality carpentry saw would be better and cheaper than a silky. Just replace it often enough. You forget how sharp they should be after a while. Sugoi would not be easy to make a level cut with.

    Group e-mail

My guess is its existing/previous customers, but I'm not sure. I have bought from them in the past but I don't remember giving my e mail address, that doesn't mean I didn't though.

    Group e-mail

If I anybody recieved the group e mailing today from a company selling chipper blades, you will notice that your e mial has been exposed to everyone else who got the e mail. This is in breach of the data protection act and I suggest you threaten legal action!
  16. Andy, thats wrong understanding of the word risk!! Another confusion. "risk" in self employed terms means financial, not risk of damage to property which therefore needs insurance!! Your right about what the HRMC say about insurance and bona fide subcontractors, but like you say you don't have to have it. So you can be a BSC without insurance, and conversly having insurance does not make you genuinly self employed. It is perfectly plausable to define your self as self employed or BSC without giving money away to insurance companies!
  17. Not with that shiny nylon liner. Its much newer. The early ones had fabric liners. I got mine second hand in 93 ish, it was going to the bin, I paid £5.00 it did me for 3 years !!
  18. Thats correct and true in nearly every example of self employed climbers! But its that control over the climber that defines him as NOT being a sub contractor.
  19. Not aimed at you John, but this is a really good example of why "subbies" are not sub contractors!! If you can't advertise your business because you are "representing theirs" then you are an employee for the day. This ties in with what I have been sayign all along regards insurance etc. You are employees for the day, must be covered by EL. and therefore by PL. Sorry to derail!!
  20. You might find that one dealer is buying off the other anyway, so cannot match them on prices. What you need is a 5 star dealer, that distributes to the other dealers around. These are the ones that do the best discount. In the south west I believe its George carrs and sons in bristol. All other retailers around me buy from them and not directly from stihl. With the exception of lister wilder in cirencester who as a company buy enough products to get them directly form stihl. Same with Honey brothers etc.
  21. Yes, thats what I'm saying. The retailers decrease their mark up, lowerign the sale price and devalueign the product!
  22. Do you have any old catalogues?
  23. Yeah, I think thats a honey brothers special from mid to late nineties.
  24. Sure, yes, but to survive the price would come down, and this devalues the pruduct and the brand as a whole. Stihl are protecting that, as market leaders its an important thing to protect.
  25. In fact my aim is to get the job at mid price, not the lowest, and win it on service and attitude.
