Today i bought a new book Trees a book of the seasons by Richard St.Barbe Baker. 1940 a lovely book in the front it says dedicated to all men who love trees Anyway when i looked through it i found a little booklet called The care of trees on development sites an advisory leaflet by the AA date June 1976 i did not realize they were that old:001_smile: In the back is an advert for more leaflets one is called rapid and distant recognition of Elms in the countryside, i would love to find this leaflet i also like the price 30p:lol:

    ouch

    Today i have been felling big dead willow trees and clearing ready to plant area again. I was cutting an elder ready to fell the next tree when my mate shouted run but i was covered in hornets got stung five times on my head and neck. He said later there where hundreds the sky was red. Let me tell you they are painful:thumbdown:
  11. Yes that is what i think Andy there are two tree workers with tickets the rest can use hand tools be safer that way:001_smile:
  12. The local village is getting a community woodland. Do you think everyone should have a chainsaw cert or do you think some lessons from a tree worker will do? Or do we think local people should stick with loppers and hand tools and let the pros do the tricky stuff felling logging ect. I wonder how this sits in the law?

  16. Sorry to hear of your loss you have a lot of support on Arbtalk. My dad died when he was 47 and time does heal but you always remember them thanks to Arbtalk you have got people to talk to. best wishes david

  20. I am the same as you clearing hedges and ponds also woods and get lots of thorn trim it up and bingo a nice piece of cord. Someone was telling me last week that furniture makers like hawthorn if you get any big stuff a good colour:thumbup:

  23. Charlieh i put hawthorn and blackthorn through a japper processor works well but as you said i also cut my cord to 4 feet as most comes home on the quad they dont need to be straight as the processor has an arm with a spike which holds the wood still:001_smile:
