  3. I have been asked to supply someone with planked oak,yew and burred elm. He has £100 how much would this buy? he wants 30mm and 50mm thick at various lengths.

  7. Have a read of the veteran tree management handbook by Helen Read it tells you all about sap risers in there it keeps the sap coming up to feed the new growth. Older trees take a real knock back when they have all the boughs taken off in one go:001_smile:
  8. Plus if you have soil like some of mine they just fall over when they get too tall:001_smile:
  9. I do the same sort of thing here Ben. I cut field maple,hawthorn and some sallow to give mid height as you say something to look at:001_smile:

    I have a ms 650 according to the stihl catalogue i need a 13/64 or5.2 round file but every time i send a chap to the shop to get one he comes back with 7/32 or 5.5 which they say is the right file for my saw. So what size file do you guys use or is there some brainy person who can help me. 7/32 is not right it files the hook away:001_smile:

  15. I went to Southwold today and i bought a new book in an antique shop called insects in British woodlands it belonged to the FC. The wife said to the shop keeper he has made your day you never thought no one was sad enough to buy that book she laughed and said she was saying nothing ha ha.

  17. Well i have a hedge to plant not much wood going out but plenty coming in for next year. will have a chat sometime when you get a break from being busy. I had a big oak come down last weekend in the wind that was nice work.

  20. Yes i have only the standard harness and if i use it all day my back is gone:001_smile:
  21. As i approach 50 when i use the strimmer for any length of time it gives me a backache. The estate has said i can have a new harness which is best the husky balance xt or the stihl comfort harness or are there any better ones? many thanks for all help:001_smile:
