  1. Interestingly, when i decided to buy the biggest avant available, i opted for the 750, rather than the 760i, simply because the latter had a kohler engine. I wanted the kubota. They are bringing out an 860 in feb, and if its got a kohler engine, i wont be interested. They are not good powerplants imo
  2. It doesnt matter how much you save buying a petrol chipper, you are going to end up paying more for petrol. One thing thats not been touched on is the reason behind this legislation. Lots of talk of saving the environment, but this will do nothing to help global warming. Its purely about air quality, and that wont improve sith the likes of china and america carrying on the way they are! Its co2 emissions that need to be addressed to combat global warming. Anyone who has a dpf on their vehicle knows that lots of short journeys will clog them up, meaning you have to drive at 40mph for half an hour to clear them, which the exhaust then spits out in a lump in the environment anyway!
  3. Agreed, although once we are out of the eu wont that change?
  4. Took on a massive connie reduction at a school. A weeks worth, two groundies, chips left on site, and genie mewp. Mewp was late getting to site, then it got stuck but it was supposedly 4wd. Already behind, i rushed to start cutting the tops out, fearing the deadline looming, i forgot to put on safety trousers. As i was cutting, i looked down to see some of my trousers going round the chainsaw chain, i then looked further to see i had cut a chunk out of my shin bone. Came down, called an ambulance, lads panicked, i remained calm. A week in hospital and 2 operations later, i was back home the night before i was moving house! Had the cut been a few mm above,it would have been my tendons gone! Lesson learnt. Always wear trousers, and dont rush
  5. That my friend is one scary miss! Not only certain death, but a costly bill!
  6. Sounds like the same crowd that were called chipperfield garden machinery, who actually were in chipperfield, amd have gone. Not heard good stuff about them, i never went there to buy anything even though it was local to me.
  7. Spoke to the guys at vfs, who have said its either the power pack(unlikely as it goes up fine) , the ram or the lowering valve. I favour the valve, and they have said they will send one, but are not keen on me fitting it as the body will come crashing down. I was thinking about propping the body up and holding it with the avant first! Not actually sure where the lowering valve is located however!
  8. Agreed. They should clamp down on these fastracs towing non farm related equipmemt with dodgy trailers, driven by teenagers on red diesel! Fed up with it round here, farmers using governmemt grants and subsidies to,undercut those of us who have to do things by the book
  9. Not really. We cannot direct him to suppliers in the uk that wont supply him
  10. Judging by your name and language, you are not in the uk and will be better asking on a website more local to you
  11. Both are tricky. One thing that may or may not be related, i couldnt tip the other day and heard a funny noise from underneath, drove round the yard over a few bumps, tipper worked, and discovered one of the wires that bolts onto the cut off switch was dodgy, so i cleaned it up witha wire brush, connected it back up and it was after that that i got this new problem!
  12. I discovered that if i tip to maximum height, it comes back down as far as the bottom section, then stops. Pressing the up a bit then down makes no difference, it still stops. Once its fully lowered after jumping up and down on the back, if i raise the tipper up past the bottom sdction, the lower it, it goes all the way down. Have yet to remove the pipe as no sure i can get underneath to connect it back up again as the body will be down!
  13. Will try that. Slacken off The pipe that joins the ram at the bottom?
  14. I read that, but wasnt the same sort of problem.
  15. Got an annoying problem just developed. My scattolini tipper goes up, no problem, comes down ok, until it gets to the last section of the ram, and then it stops. The only way i can get it to go back down, is to jump up and down on the body while pressing the lowering button. Its fine if there is weight in the back. Vfs are saying i need a new ram. Truck is sold once my new one appears so i dont want the guy who is buying mine to have a problem. Also, its only 4 years old, so whilst out of warranty, should be covered by some sort of consumer rights or another?
  16. Digbits. They will have a rake on the shelf that will fit. A riddle bucket is good for sorting rubble, not good for roots especially if its wet
  17. not knocking their dumpers, but drove one of their diggers and it was no where near the feel of a kubota, but i can see the temptation at those prices! You have to consider resale value too
  18. Not having a dig at all. Can see why its been a ball ache of a job! Fair play taking it on
  19. Thats some serious climbing out to do that. Can see now why it looks like nothing been done.
  20. Whats been done to the tree exactly? Cant see any difference
  21. Why change it? Best advice i ever recieved was from a guy at my local agric service centre. Leave the hydraulic oil well alone, just change the filters! Tractor is 11 years old, still got original transmission oil. One of my crushers has 2600 hours on it, same oil. Nuff said
  22. Been reading this thread on and off, and thought i would add my input. I am 43, and gave up climbing about 5 years ago. Like you, i have a landscape and fenceing business, plus my crusher hire, so i decided its best i get a climber in as and when, and i can do all the ground stuff with my chipper, avant, etc and still take the big jobs on. I had a started a family, had one accident, and felt tje risk was not worth the gain Now i am lucky, they guy i use has not yet hit 30. He started as my labourer whilst he was at uni, then decided like you to do treework. He joined one of the countries top tree companies,,and did every ticket and training course there was. Once he was fully trained, and worked with them for a year, he left. He trained as a fireman, and out of 2000 applicants, got one of the 8 jobs going, which happened to be near me. As they only work 4 days at a time, the other days i can call him in for my climbing. He comes with all the kit, saws etc, i provide the truck, chipper etc, and i keep the logs. Its a win win for me, but if i was only doing tree surgery and nothing else, i would still be climbing!
