  1. Just bought a land rover discovery yesterday, ten years ago I wouldn't have given you tuppence for one (just my opinion before I get lynched!).got me thinking and thought I'd ask the crowd, what do you think has improved or gone downhill? lets say since the millennium.opinions please
  2. had exactly the same a while back, only did it with 4" stuff too,had shorter blades but well within witness line,a week later the rotor shaft snapped, bent flywheel,1500 quid rebuild, fins where intact, bearings intact, all seemed well, probably not connected but worth checking everything over
  3. short combi-spanners,no leverage
  4. I'm looking into one,my 610 is just over a year old and very good nick, still under warranty.if the trade in price aint good I might stick it up on arbtrader
  5. echo,solid as a rock
  6. I bought a cs550 and was disappointed, solid build like all my echo gear but found it a bit pedestrian, the 600/610 (620 imminently) is great and the same weight (I think).I think the 550 is more suited to farmers and landscapers (no offence to either)
  7. (on a tank)
  8. Not an exact science but I'd say a sharp 50-60cc saw will ring up about 1.5 cube of softwood (loose)
  9. i run the 550 on a 13" and 560 on a 15",both 8 pin sprocket,if I had to take only one to a desert island it would be the 550,it can handle a 15" all day, weighs nothing, tires you out less and puts a smile on your face (but not as much as a dolmar 5105,another story )
  10. I have 550 and 560 (both 2013) 550 can be temperamental on warm start, has had 1 av spring and one exhaust bolt, has done shed loads of work and seems to get better with age.560 is newer, had a flat spot for first few weeks which has ironed itself out, both bang on the money.i believe they break brake bands,i use the brake rarely so not an issue for me,i would happily buy more with confidence IME
  11. you were lucky! joking aside and a slight derail, delivered logs to a chap weekend, had a spitfire 1600 in the garage from new, done 364,000 miles now, tours Europe for 6 months every year, his AA premium must be high!!
  12. that's clearly a sales pitch
  13. heard indifferent things about them too, mainly delivery time issues,i got my 5105 from mchenry power, illinois, stateside, turned up in 8 days, fully tracked etc, worth a look,or try TCD,he knows more of dolmar than me
  14. coincidence the thread I just put up!! dolmar for me
  15. had 3 of the above, all new over last ten years, just picked up a new one yesterday.cracking grunty, solid saw but really feels old now compared to 550/560 etc IMO.i feel like an old man (I am) with a triumph stag
  16. thanks for the advice, its now stripped and the shaft is clean in half! excellent advice and parts back up from gareth and mark at spectrum plant,my local tractor garage are happy to rebuild it with mark on the phone as back up
  17. chipper blocked today, cleared it,started, flywheel not turning and wobbly with a bar, will strip it out tomorrow but guessing the shaft has snapped? if so is it a difficult job? thanks guys
  18. thoughts are with you mr sparrow,i've been through 2 sisters having haemorages (not tumours)one pulled through, one didn't.all I can offer is that when someone is that poorly they have the best care available, stay strong chap
  19. now there's a thought
  20. my 3 man team thrashes around in the woods December till march, currently coppicing ash/elm/maple,nothing huge.we run husky 550,560,my waspy little dolmar and an echo or two here and there.i have a 242 that see's little action, constantly it crosses my mind 'just sell it' but I dragged it out today for a run, yeah it struggles on felling cuts and anything over 6" cross cutting, but it sneds well and a tank lasts longer than expected, then I thought 'hang on to this one old man (43) cos in 10 years time it'll be the only saw you can a)lift b)start c)work all day.this thread is more of a thought than a question, thanks for reading it guys
  21. I cant get past a 460 in that bracket but I do fancy a test drive,i'll pop down
  22. thanks I'll look it up,like it could be any cooler
  23. I never get any work done though shavey.....cos all 3 of us stand around all day listening to the sexually bubbly tick over where do I source said muffler?
  24. if that had a bonnet it would be concours condition for a DB my 990 is nearly as good, the irony being every time you check the water/oil and diesel they're always spot on
  25. quick update on mine.its done 3 months work now (not every day).I had to break off the ally/resin cover on the h/l jets to retune it as it bogged on full throttle (guessing it don't like our fuel) now its run in it swaps between 13" and 15" bars and runs an 8 pin sprocket, its completely bonkers in a word.it has the snap of a husky 550 but bury it and it has the torque of a 560 or more! punches far above its weight for me.please please please start selling them here,no brainer makita
