  1. Another better day here. Tweaked the spring last night and it was lovely again today on htp. Could maybe tweak some more. Just have to see how it is in the wet now.
  2. Mines yellow. VERY bright yellow, 11mm. And not milked today. I noticed it had quite a few kinks as I was redirecting which was different from the cougar. Not that it was a problem, just an observation.
  3. I think I'll have a play with the spring tonight and have it ready for tomorrow. 👍🏻 As for the hands, I always wear gloves so it's not been a problem. But it felt very stiff and different as soon as I got it unwrapped.
  4. Well, today was superb. The Akimbo has been just what I had always expected it to be. Brand new Sterling htp and dry. Not sunny like I was hoping but can't have it all. The htp is absolutely brilliant compared to the cougar blue. Not once did it feel too stiff to release and was a nice smooth action. I'm not so sure about the self tending but because I was using a pantin most of the time. But it has certainly made me happier today!!👍🏻
  5. My new htp arrived today. I'm sat here really looking forward to going to work tomorrow to try it out. Nice sunny weather, thinning sycamores on new rope. Can't wait now that it sounds like a good rope. New cam and springs sounds nice. Did you ask for them before the akimbo were sent out or have you got them after. If so, how much £ if you don't mind me asking.
  6. I think I might just have to try your latest .... 👍🏻 Can you send me the details...
  7. I think it looks like a decent central anchor. Why not price it with a mewp and/or crane involved. And traffic management maybe. If you get it, I think I'd opt for climbing slow and steady over the day and think of the ££. But if you keep seeing it and losing sleep, then at least you've covered you're arse. 👍🏻
  8. I had time to play today so I did do some bombing out to see what happened. It was nice to see it does come to a nice steady holt (when set up right). But funnily enough, when I went 'one tighter' on the top cam, it didn't stop. Just a steady slip but didn't stop. Tried again, one slacker. Worked perfectly. It's a really complex device as far as I can see so far.
  9. Mines no where near that wear. Maybe that's the big problem at the mo. But I did wonder how much testing had been done in crap weather and not new ropes. Once dialled in today on cougar blue, cold dry and time to play with settings. It was lovely. Just what you don't have most days though. Pissing it down and stressed, reach for the ..... instead!
  10. Just realised about my 2nd last post. I said the blue was thinner. It wasn't, the orange was thinner. The reason why I tested it was because my orange was great on the BDB but the blue couldn't grip. Tried the bigger cam and the orange was too tight but the blue only just gripped. I assumed blue was thinner than orange. However, when we measured it, the blue wasn't the thinner rope. This was on new rope. I'd climbed on the orange once or twice, clean and dry. Worked fine. The blue, brand new couldn't grip. Edit: hi, yes it's James 👍🏻
  11. That's interesting, cheers. I remember when the email came that they had been shipped and I wished that we could have ordered a few spare parts. Spring was one! As for the adding washers part, I agree but will hold off for a little while. I've tried 2 ropes, 3 if you include O. or Bl cougar. And so far I've heard this htp stuff is good. There's one thing about it though. It certainly keeps you keen and interested. I was dreaming about it the other night!!
  12. There isn't a lot of space for velocity either. I thought that was 11mm but recently read that it's maybe 11.3mm. Cougar is supposed to be 11.7mm, I think. But we got the verniers onto the orange and the blue and the blue was thinner. So, this sterling htp. Is that a proper 11mm? And also, where can I buy some. Gustharts don't show it on the website. (I think)
  13. Can you buy the sterling htp in the U.K.?
  14. I've also had a much better time on it today. Cougar blue (definitely better than orange) was really good after a few tweaks. That's on almost new and dry rope. Velocity was rubbish. It is quite old though. Just bites too hard so it's to hard to release. A few tweaks and it was no better. My anodising has come off a bit but not like in your photo.
  15. No me neither. I keep wondering who the hells been testing the thing for the last year. Didn't they try it in different conditions with different ropes. I thought that was the whole point of Jaime sending a few out to be tested.
  16. Is that wet rope too? Or damp at least. Mine was lovely, a week or so ago on a nice cold crisp dry day. Funnily enough, it's just been mentioned on the akimbo Facebook thing about it not liking wet sappy rope. It seems we've worked that one out a bit quicker in the UK weather, haha.
  17. Yes same thing I noticed the other day. It was still dirty from a wet day last week. Hot soapy wash and it was nice and smooth again and opened nicely. I think it needs to be designed for up to 13mm and then it might be better for stuff like 11.3-11.7. It would probably be the same problem for 13mm then but that doesn't bother me I don't and probably won't ever use it. I have to say, after been so excited about its potential for over a year, I'm going to go back to the runner or bone pretty soon. There seems to be plenty of people desperate to buy the akimbo!!
  18. I have to agree with all of the above. I tried my velocity today because I thought the thinner diameter would be better. It was slightly better, but it was damp so basically it was rubbish. It hurts my hand to get the thing to release, sometimes having to pull with both hands. And also having to be careful not to pull too hard and end up going for a metre or so drop. It was slightly better the other week when it was nice and dry, but far from perfect. The adjustment doesn't really help. I've had it on slack as possible which is too hard to pull open to get going down. Tightened up until it's too tight to move at all. There's no in between. I thought today, a way to improve it would be to make the top arm longer, so as to give more leverage to the pull. Or something like that anyway.
  19. After having lots of tradesmen turning up to price this and that, I had the obvious thought. Fancy car, charging too much? Work van or scruffy vehicle, cheaper? Quotes very similar but fancy vehicle more expensive. A bit more. But he also turns up on time, and provides a decent bit of detail of what the job entails. Rather than on a fag packet. I've stopped worrying about appearances. Do the pricing right for what you are happy with and wait for the reply, whilst getting on with the rest of your work. Simple. As for clothes, surely that just depends on what you have on that day. I'm certainly not getting changed for a quote. I've been in my cycling gear with full on pads and full face helmet before. Don't think it matters. 😊
  20. I've got them burrowing in the chicken run which makes it very difficult to use poison. But I'd also get satisfaction out of using the AirArms too. When is the best time to sit around waiting. It's a bit chilly at the moment.
  21. All climbing devices work differently with different rope. But as said, its adjustable in less than 30 seconds whilst up the tree. That's the point being made really.
  22. Was it properly clicked in. I think they can still work, contacts in place, even if it's not quite fully 'clicked'. Other than that I can't help, other than duct tape. 🤔
