1. Having been in the heavy good industry for over 40 years this industry is a walk in the park in comparison, touch wood I always get paid as requested, BACS payments turn up fine, cheques dont bounce etc/ A
  2. D2, TD5 ES, 03 plate. a mere 265,000 miles on the clock so far, about 130 bhp. A
  3. Welcome to the site Ray, lots of good blokes here and no crap like their is on some of the other sites we visit. A
  4. Thats the one, Wilsons also have graph showing heat outputs, thats also worth giving to your customers providing you are selling sub 20% logs. Keeps them away from the crap merchants, A
  5. Crickey mine do. I dont tow a lot of weight, usually 2 cube of logs or some stoves so about a tonne or thereabouts on twin axle trailers. LANDROVER forum suggests BFGs last maybe 10% longer than ATs, however BFGs are not available in all sizes, when I bought my last ATs they were not avail. A
  6. Look at your cord costs, processing costs, storage costs, delivery costs, oh and profit !!. At 110 per cube there is some but not much, Large bulk bag 1.6m3 -Logs - Firewood At £233 for a 1.6 cube bag that equates to £145 a cube delivered. If your product is of good quality and properly dry that's where you could be. A
  7. Forestry Equipment & Machines | Jas P Wilson Chart seems to have been removed, if you give them a bell I am sure they will e mail you a copy and a copy of a graph they sent out recently showing the differing KW outputs per ton against the Moisture Content. A
  8. Because most of them have no idea of the bigger picture and frankly once the stove is out of the door and paid for care even less. You are quite correct, most wood burnt in Scandinavian countries is soft, it grows well in those climates, so they have lots of it. Morso test their stoves using Pine, in burns hotter than most. I offer both hard and soft, use the charts on Wilsons site to prove that soft burns hotter than hard and another to demonstrate the effect of moisture on heat output. Helps me sell logs. With the cost of both hard and soft cord on the rise I may now start to look hard at importing as opposed to buying cord and preparing my own. Probably run them side by side for a while. A
  9. It is highly likely that this tree is causing the issue. One way to check is the problem probably occurs on lighting when there is little heat or draw in the flue and the wind is coming from the direction of the offending tree. I have had trees and buildings 80 yards from a clients house cause down drafts. The solution is an anti down draft cowl fitted to the top of the chimney pot. I sell ones made by Eurocowl, never had a failure yet. Do NOT fit an H cowl, the horizontal pipe is un sweepable and will block solid in a couple of years. You will be unable to get the tree owner to reduce the tree, the top would need to be below your roof height and it may well be covered by a TPO. A
  10. Looks like Green Delta is based in Scotland so probably not the same company, see what Biglogman says. A
  11. Got a feeling in my water there was a thread maybe six months from a member here saying he bought some timber that was 'kiln dried' but was very wet with lots of kindling size logs in the crates. Do a search, the member did name and shame after several suggestions, it may or of course may not be this guy. Try name and shame in search. Here you are, post 16, http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/61360-cheaper-buy-split-wood-2.html Not quite the same name but close especially if your proposed supplier is in Ireland. Suggest you talk to Biglogman, A

    Log sales

So are you processing logs from round cord then taking those same logs straight out and delivering them?. Have to looked at or tried the Tajfun live deck on a trailer?, if so what are your thoughts?. Thanks A
  13. Anyone buying in hard cord at market rates and not selling it for at least £110 + VAT is not making any money at all. I would rather mine sit in the barn than do it for nothing. A
  14. trailcams would provide evidence and times, quality of pics may not be good enough for a court though. A
  15. I usually cut at 240mm but last summer I took on an agency for Aarow stoves, their 4kw stove wants 200mm max, they are flying off the shelf. Modern houses are highly insulated and have tiny rooms so dont need a whole lot of heat, (3kw - 4kw usually) so there is a whole new generation of small stoves coming through for this market. Next year I will cut probably half at 200mm. A
  16. What sort of volume?, how big a trailer needed?. Normally I would be interested but Saturdays in a stove shop this time of year is like the week before xmas in a toyshop so I wont be able to help. A
  17. [ "I am hoping to get down to a 5KW rather than a 16KW burner which would operate over the two coldest months. I plan to have a pellet boiler as primary heating and instant gas for hot water and cooking with solar to boost the hot water whenever the sun shines." Morso now have a stand alone pellet stove ( about 7kw) but not a pellet boiler, ie it does not heat water. You wont find anything on their web site about it yet but there are in stock in Rugby, I am looking at installing one into my Morso showroom. A
  18. As I understand it yes. A
  19. Ash so infected with Ash Bark beetles, is it sellable?. Does the frost kill them, I assume it should. Are they dangerous within properties as in attacking the timbers within the property?. Not actually ever seen any as such but no doubt I will sooner or later and need to be prepared. A

  22. Does it matter?, any publicity supporting the sales of solid fuel equipment will hopefully increase demand for our products. A
  23.

Hi Nick,

Rumour locally is that Tom Knapp (tom 87) from east haddon has suffered a very serious hand injury. So serious that Northampton General could not deal with it, as such he is currently in Leicester Royal Infirmary. This is only rumour but he has not replied to a mail I sent him this week about buying some kindling and maybe 40 cube of logs.

Thought as he was talking about you moving some timber for him from oxford way that you ought to be aware.

Geoff

  24. Domestic RHI seems to have been quietly killed off by the govt, is was due for launch 2014 but the increase in funding to RHI this year does not cover all that would be required for commercial RHI let alone domestic. A
