  1. Seems like we need a helmet with a built in mask as well as eye and ear protection, it there one?. Thinking about upgrading my processor but my MF135 wont pick up a big rotary blade machine so it looks like a chain bar type, hence my concern. Firewood for me is a side line to retailing stoves so I use a chainsaw very little normally. A
  2. Are you calculating the money earnt after you have taken RHi for the first 250,000kwh at the same rate per kw hour?. Following a link from your web site I ended up here, http://www.lakesidebiomass.co.uk/files/Download/Biomass%20boilers%20for%20broilers.pdf states at after the first 250,000 kwh the rate per kwh drops from 8.6p per kwh to 2.2p per kwh. Cost of fueling it would come to more than that I suspect although i do appreciate that you would get dried stock out of the deal. A
  3. Merry christmas and a happy new year to everyone. A
  4. Did not know that, thanks for the advice, magazines were glossy as well. A
  5. Delivering logs !!!!. After Xmas talk to Nick Channor here, he can usually put his hands on some. He uses a tri axle timber trailer with grab, 23-26 tonnes a load. A
  6. Friend of mine did exactly that when he came home to find burglars in his house maybe 15 years ago, he lost his shotgun and firearm licence. A
  7. I had a customer in the showroom last summer who had inherited a device to roll newspapers into tight rolls, she swore by it. A few weeks later I had some out of date A4 size catalogues to dispose of, so I rolled them up in 4s, taped up with a bit of Gaffa tape. They did burn surprisingly well but left a massive quantity of ash behind. About 3 times the normal volume when burning wood, cant rally work out why that should be. A
  8. Mini Eurocowl has solved all the down draft issues I have ever come across Mini Eurocowl Chimney Cowl - Stainless Steel Available from most good stove retailers, or me and it has a guarantee that says it stops down drafts or your money back. I cant see that turning one doing a whole lot to be honest, might be wrong, never seen it before. Looks like its an interference fit only on 150mm and 200mm id pots. Have a wind like we are having here tonight and I have reservations about it staying put. Eurocowl is stainless steel, terracotta coloured to match a pot and clamps to the outside of the pot with a hose clip. A
  9. Do you have a link for it, sounds a top hole bit of kit. Thanks A
  10. Looks nice, like the caring attitude, will appeal to ladies but how many buy logs?. Would be interested to see what the public response is. Need a couple more log stores as well, as before, but one with the roof pre assembled but NOT fitted, needs to go down a narrow brick passage. Please give me a call tomorrow. Thanks A ( Home Farm Stoves)
  11. pm sent, A
  12. Caravan on the farm next door had one wheel removed, a clamp on the other wheel and a locked hitch, last Weds mid morning it got towed away by what is thought to be a Citron Xsara. Mid Northants. A
  13. Welcome to the site. As a stove retailer myself I would say blame for that lays with your retailer, he should have advised you on a suitable heat output for your room, how to use the stove and any other help and advice you need to get the best out of it. Of course if you bought it on line you will get none of this support, but you may have paid a slightly lower price. Re charge intervals will depend on what you are burning, assuming you have the air supplies fully open so are working the stove to its max capacity then re charging with softwood will last about 40-45 mins, hard about 50-55 mins. If longer refuelling times are important to you then use Anthracite ( natural smokeless coal) assuming your stove is multifuel and able to burn it. A
  14. The Elm if of a reasonable diameter would be worth more sold as timber for furniture or turning. A
  15. Agreed 100%, hence I don't deal with CW !!. You will have to straight to the source and take a flyer. a
  16. That's the one, about 3 miles from me. If at some point there is timber for sale there I would be interested. A
  17. You may well get someone with a processor to cut/split it for you in the spring but wont get anyone to stack it I doubt. If you have access to lifting gear or a teleporter just process it into log bags and stack those. A
  18. I take the view that either customers pay what I ask or they dont, if it does not sell in can stay in the barn. At present rates I will be sold out soon unless I buy in which seems difficult, may have to bring a container in from abroad. Small local firewood 'merchant' killed a week or so ago, trying to fell ash on the local railway line, without any kind of permission. Railtrack team found him under an ash he had been felling 2 days after he went missing, suspect it must have been under cover of darkness. No doubt this 'red hot' fresh felled timber was destined to be cut up and sold to unsuspecting customers as ready to burn at £60 a cube. I got called a stitch up merchant this week by someone who bought from him. At least mine comes from legit well managed forests and is not stolen. In light of probable cord prices in 2014 it is now becoming more cost effective to import ready processed. Just keep a small processor for odds and ends unless you are felling your own. A
  19. Farmers are I think limited these days to felling trees for their own use only and then only up to a certain limit. Above that or for sale as I understand it a licence is needed, I don't suppose wind blown counts. Might be wrong but that's something I read a while ago. A

    mold

Vented bags will be fine,, I stack them 3 high at 54 per course, perfect results, don't use builders bags as they are not vented, logs will mould. A
  21. In a similar position and age. I am looking at upgrading to a hydraulic machine with a hydraulic loading rack. Load the rack with the loader, then hang bags on the loader under the outlet elevator. Some machines can run off a 3 phase electric, otherwise you will need a tractor to lift/power it. If looking at using electric make sure the motor is high up out of the way of the sawdust. Bigger stuff then a Posch 20 ton horizontal splitter, that has a self load facility and will create smaller billets that can then be fed through a processor. A
  22. I am a stove supplier and did comment earlier in the thread. Education of the end user is the key, that and stopping people giving away hard cord at £60-£80 a cube. A
  23. Having been in the heavy good industry for over 40 years this industry is a walk in the park in comparison, touch wood I always get paid as requested, BACS payments turn up fine, cheques dont bounce etc/ A
