  1. Here's one i did last year.... garden full of them!
  2. the pics certainly dont do it justice. ive postponed job when its to windy before the start, but if i had already been to the top of tree i think i would get on. No one can expect you to risk your life (more than the usual calculated risk of tree work) if they do then id tell em to show me how its done! Its down to each climber (or their boss!) when things are unsafe. but like anything different people will feel safe under different circumstances. e.g. F1 drivers for example... not everyone would like going round a corner at 200 mph.
  3. dont see a pic!
  4. Oreo milkshake is the one!!
  5. Got my new treemotion today. used it once today but I'm not really sure about it coming from 10 years in a willans. not sure about the leg loops rather than the one loop for both legs on the willans. also the bridge, i have tied a knot in the middle as i find it too long and i don't like the ring moving from side to side when i move left or right i find that a bit disconcerting. i found it sit quite low as well. any tip on setting it up or is it just personal taste?
  6. Theres another one on youtube of them on the platform of the crane by the cab. 70 floors up i belive.
  7. [ame] [/ame]
  8. £6 a week im sure there would be plenty of people who would love to rent a room at your house!!
  9. I thought theres quite a bit of sound wood there but obviously you cant see when the trees up How was the tree removed in the end mate was it not climbed
  10. to be honest i get more worried now more than when i first started. When i was young i was swinging around without a care, now i think about what could go wrong more although i work for myself now so thats probably a factor.
  11. Hi, the only problem was it was taking about 15min for each cut and it vibrates your hand really hard. i expect that with a softer wood and/or smaller diameter its going to be easier. Lovely bits of wood though, think i might keep a smaller bit.
  12. heres a pic of the log. sorry bout the size of pic!
  13. That better?
  14. missed it! is it repeated?
  15. i can get stick teeth for near a £1 each but i still sharpen them you can get 5-10 sharpens out of a tooth and i just cant throw them away. I have an industrial fan set in the wall and have built a wooden box/duct around the bench grinder so it suck all the dust out... still wear a mask though
  16. Im with you on that, just thought now you got your cs47....
  17. why no MWEP with the road being just there?
  18. i do realize that the law does not see it like that but in the real world.... if he was messing around then he got what was coming and should have known better.
  19. I see what you are saying but if he is up the tree and, lets say... decides he's gonna leap off a branch and swing into the tree what are you going to do about it. How can it be the employers fault the climber is in control of his own actions. its madness. It almost like saying, yes i was dangerous driving officer but its not my car so the owner can take responsibility. isn't it??
  20. i really dont see how you could be held responsible for a mistake / miss judgment a presumably qualified climber makes up a tree even if he is working for you. He is in control of his actions up a tree, if an accident happens involving only him then it must be his fault. fault aside i guess he can claim on your insurance as my insurer has said I need EL even if only subbies are used.
  21. I'm with you cats falk i know a few people that smoke at work and they are very competent. They are quicker, safer and take more pride in their work than the 'straighties'. obviously its different for each persons. An idiot or competence test would get my vote.
  22. type c is all round. i like my nappies!!
  23. for my climbing lanyard i used the end of a climbing line that got nicked with the saw half way down so i made it into two smaller section for smaller trees (luckily got nicked at about half way). it has an spliced eye in it already then put a figure of 8 knot in the other end for termination. i just use a prussic loop on it for the adjustment
  24. me and my mate have them, both had probs with the zip within a month or so and they come apart at the crotch after a while but then so do every pair/make Ive had. Ive had mine machine sown and they are coming apart again now. The stihl ones where to 'figure hugging' for my liking!!
  25. oh yeah.... of course. The timber is ~3.5ft going down to 2.5ft with a big pruning type cut half way down but i can cut that flush. would i be able to use a 48" bar on my 066 with the longer Alaskan mill or do i need a bigger saw/mill. I could like you say trim down the edges first cheers
