  1. But back to the thread. 'Yem' Swedish for home. Always hear it around E. YORKS, because of the trawlermen back and forth over the North sea. Plus many villages end in ' by' which is viking village names. K

  12. More importantly a nice lil project fr Mr Stubby. Oldest known crane given restoration funding WWW.BBC.CO.UK The Stothert and Pitt crane, built in the 1860s, will be restored and returned to where it was built. Must have been yr saturday job, winding that ? K
  13. @neiln basically its down to us stupid Brits thinking a house is an investment as against where our family will grow up in and stay fr decades. It rarely occurs in Germany, France, Greece, etc they just use polyfilla. It was a failure by the Banks and Insurers to realise the consequences of insuring rubbish built overpriced boxes. K
  14. Certainly will see more clay shrinkage problems if weather of this type continues into next decade. The BIG problem is mortgage lenders punt house insurance including subsidence cover which means people bang in way more claims than on the Continent. It's a UK problem with big implications. K
  15. @kevinjohnsonmbe always my argument with her, who hates unions- no way any train should be operated by just one person. Most tube trains are completely automatic anyway...... until something goes wrong ( then it's carry on till next station fr station staff to tackle it - all one of them usually ! ) k
  16. Absolutely appaling. Am amazed not more that three people killed. Three dead after passenger train derails WWW.BBC.CO.UK The driver, a conductor and a passenger were killed in the incident in Aberdeenshire. Missed the rail then hit the landslide . K

  19. The intention is to put smart roads with weighing sensors embedded so that the camera can not only clock you fr speed but yr actual weight also, referenced to the dvla register - instant fines thro yr letter box . Think M1 is next fr that ? Bloody cash cow. K
  20. Cloud cover here. Plus light pollution ? K
  21. Lorry ratchet straps are a godsend. Pulling crowns in or temporary bracing for anchor points. Or holding knackered wood chipper together. K
  22. @Ramo theres yr answer , sorry ? K
  23. Blazing here. Not slept fr days. Even walking abt a chore ( new boots aint helping ) k
  24. Its Rigging, Jim.. But not as We know it... ( I canny hold it! Captain! ) First time I saw @Paul Poynter get an X ring with that braided blue out 9f his kitbag , I thought ain't that like those rough old 'eye on a strop ' efforts I trained on ? But it does work well n better on yr nylon lines nowadays. K
