  1. This, I can relate too. Once whilst addressing the clients wife, I thought I'd offered to lower the price ( bassè ) Instead, I offered to #### ( baisè ) her for a price. Luckily some French are enthusiastic Anglo-phone so I still got the job and the clients wife made it clear the invitation to ' baisè ' remains open... Ty
  2. I found a good quality angle grinder a help. Cheap ones have more vibration and a session on the Carlton teeth would leave my hands tingling unless I wore 2 pairs of thick gloves. Those diamond discs for the angle grinder are around 70euros over here. Abtecs are far less, sold as 'vanity disks'? Ty
  3. Well fast forward to 2018. Friends still forward me this video from time to time. James the drunken tree surgeon is likely to remain a classic it seems. Ty
  4. When you lose a tasty job to a lower quote only for the client to recontact you weeks after to quote for the chipping up. Ty
  5. Same people often use images like this one for publicity which fools the unsuspecting public but rings alarm bells for those who know better. Ty
  6. It is the dogs vomit fungus. Although without googling I think it is technically a slime mould. Ty
  7. I've had clients sneak up to the chipper when my back is turned and empty sacks of garden waste into the hopper. One came out of nowhere and shoved a gatepost complete with iron mongery, which got as far as the rollers biting before I hit the reverse. Many expat clients like to participate and drag brash and feed the chipper under supervision. I was at the other end of the garden dragging branches when a length of re-bar (mistaken for a dry hazel stick) went through. I clearly heard it then and felt it vibrate my bones. I can still hear it today, often around 3am as part of a worry dream. Ty
  8. It took me 3 old chains to cut through a large but dirty leylandii last week. I never found the source of whatever blunted my throwaway chains but they all clogged with resin once the bar got hotter as they got blunter. Ty
  9. Question, when describing a tree as veteran, is this in relation to it's species lifespan? Take a 75 year old birch and a 75 year old oak. Would the birch fall into the veteran catagory whilst the oak just 'mature'? Ty
  10. The B22 doesn't have hydro static drive to the cutting head, only the wheels. The head is belt driven so no power loss. Ty
  11. If people become more focused on fuel costs then perhaps they will be less likely to leave the machines running un-productively. I often see many arb outfits with chipper running flat out unnecessarily. My own crew had this habit when I was not around to turn it down or off. Extra hours de-valueing the machine and wasting fuel chipping air... Ty
  12. In a parallel universe, there is a forum for members of a certain caravan club with a thread entitled. "Stealing my first chipper" Ty
  13. The smell of my 2 year olds hair in my face. My daughters growing tri-lingual vocabulary. No longer the proud owner of an growing empire, I have found pleasure in working for others as a subby. The pressure is off my shoulders, the buck stops elsewhere and I sleep easier without the constant worry. Ty
  14. Remove some of the words of a posting without adding any words often reveals a hidden message... Ty
  15. I think it would be better to do away with red diesel and offer another tax advantage to users of plant or simply, no advantage at all. This would eliminate the potential for the misuse of red and earn the government more tax. Ty
  16. In the future diesel will become more expensive as will the engines themselves. The current Vanguard 37hp petrol was shown in a demo by Forst which they posted on their FB page to have much the same fuel consumption as an equivalent hp diesel. Given the difference in purchase price between the 2 power plants, the higher fuel running costs are offset by the lower purchase price. There is a cross over after around 1200 hours but by then many would be looking at replacing their machine. Ty
  17. Maybe not the way green politics are swinging. Diesel certainly will become 'tres cher' whilst petrol may become advantageous in price and technology make smaller engines more efficient like the newer fuel injected Vanguards over the same model using a carb. A 25%-33% improvement I read. Ty
  18. Resto was good today. 3 decent and tasty courses with extra rose-ay because Luckeleven tipped a wink at the waitress who could have passed for Eddy Izzard's sister or even Eddy himself... Ty
  19. I vow never to spend another centime beyond what I need to run my house in this country. They are utterly indifferent when I show them a U.K quote, pout, shrug, wave arms in that way French people do and often say shit like "but it won't conform" or "it's not the same machine" or even plain old " you are lying you perfidious Anglais, your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberrys" Ty
  20. From June 1st, I'm now working for Mrs Lee who as an accountant and former P.A has registered a business called Franglais Soins des Arbres. Just labour for now as I've nothing in the way of larger kit for now. High hopes for the future! Ty
  21. I confess to have spent the last 18months considering the merits of the 'Snatch' method or weighted body in deep yet coastal waters. In the end, I listened to my wife and came around to the idea that the best way to cause my former business partner serious pain would be to launch back into this business and make my future success very visible to him. Perfidious French Git that he is. Ty
  22. When Luckyeleven talks about shreddies, we spent 2 days pollarding limes near Paris this Winter. Mountains of beautiful pale square chip, produced. This I can bag and sell for 50+euros per m3 We did once try putting bamboo through the CS100, it came out in 3 long splinters, horrible stuff! Ty

    Huel

I'm not certain but 'hurle' is to scream with rage. When a child doesn't get what it wants. The English use is likely to have it's roots in the French. Ty
  24. Basically, in a nutshell, this statement sums up treework... Ty
