  1. Thank you all for your replies. I recall the time I took a 400euro tophandle saw which was just out of warranty into a dealer for a tune and came out with a 280euro bill for a new carb. I'm happy to try fiddling and if I screw up, just buy a fresh carb. Question, why don't small engines have fuel filters? Answers on a postcard please and the winner recieves a Crack a Jack pencil or pen. Stuart
  2. Anyone know the UK price of the new B21? Cheers Stuart
  3. Who are you anyway and what the f**k do you know about engines....? 😁 Thank you, I'll give it a wang and buy a carb off Amazon as a back up to my butterfingered efforts.
  4. Hello, My FSI B20 grinder has a Honda GX390 engine. Recently it has begun to struggle under load, coughing sooty exhaust and difficulty picking up, as though the choke is part on. I've ordered a fresh air filter, checked the carb bowl for muck (clean) It starts well enough, ticks over as usual, just bogs down under load. Any pointers appreciated. Regards Stuart
  5. Waiting for the arb student to finish the trunk so I can get in with the walnut stump. 30min bang on plus prep and clean up. The engine has now 180hours and is now stuttering at high revs. Aside from the air filter which is recent and clean, what else might be causing this? A carb clean out? No fuel filter on these which I feel is an error given the environment.
  6. He clearly thought it was empty and a contributory factor to the engines problem.
  7. First I thought there was no hydraulic oil at all looking at the level. So I opened it and found the tank full to the brim. That would have made an expensive mess on a clients tarmac drive had I gone out on a job. 5 litres or more I siphoned out.
  8. Oh, he even changed the hydraulic oil and this he charged me for. Which was nice.
  9. I couldn't have expressed it better myself. This is what the mechanic was doing to mine. Only electronic part not replaced was the ECU.
  10. Hey Shaunpaul. Any news?
  11. Are you saying that all those may cause difficulty starting when warm? The last issue mine had was it would start, run up to a few revs below that required to activate the hydraulics then hunt.
  12. Auction North of Rennes. If I sold it privately under French law I must guarantee it for two years though it is up to the buyer to prove I hid a known fault. Auctions are sold as seen, no come back.

  14. And this business of software updates. Well that ties you to regular visits to a dealer. Many chipper owners, me included like to do their own servicing. I also understand that there are very few Efi certified dealers generally and when I had my issues only 13 in the whole of France. Machines of all kinds equipped with Efi engines being sold by dealers not certified, trained and equipped to service them.
  15. I still own it.
  16. So, given your experience with these engines and observations of the trials and tribulations of Shaun and I. What do YOU think might be the cause of the starting issues? In my case, software updates didn't work and any number of diagnostic tests where inconclusive. I really would love to know. Stuart
  17. It isn't only Briggs who have issues. Renault, Dacia, Nissan group have famously been taken to court by a group of owners over their TCi petrol engines. They have long been in denial of any issues and simply blamed the owners or ghosted them. 18. **** you Ashley...
  19. Yeh yeh wiring loom yeh yeh... We had that one too. In fact the first fault the first Efi guy found was a rubbed through wire and he even charged me for it claiming not a warranty issue but a GM one. He refused to do a pressure test or anything recommended by GM. I call this 'dealer denial' A weird state of existence were they perpetuatly deliver poor service and in an effort to cover their incompetence, blame the customer for actually daring to use the machine. Though as ever, I truly hope this is the case for your chipper and that it is fixed and runs sweetly afterwards for ever more. Seems dealer denial isn't only confined to French dealers...

  24. I'm not joking but I am actually experiencing flashbacks of anger and frustration over my experience. So much so my wife asked me what is wrong with me today.
  25. Especially business and pricing.
